How to Wow on Your Summer Date

Summer may be the best season to go on a date — or at least the most exciting, with endless opportunities to spend time outdoors and finally put on that summer dress we’ve been waiting to wear. It can also present challenges, from how to choose the best date activity to how not to sweat off all your makeup. There are plenty of ways to make your summer date the best it can be, allowing maximum chemistry to fly between you and your date. But how do you really wow on your summer date, taking it to the next level and making it one to remember? The first tip is to be yourself, whether that means wearing your favorite outfit or doing an activity that you enjoy or have been wanting to try.

The rest of our tips follow a simple principle and are all meant to guarantee that you have an amazing time on your summer date. Here’s our advice on how to wow on your summer date.

Wear Your Personality on Your Sleeve

While there are many important factors that all work together to make a date work (or not), feeling your best is certainly one of them. Once you feel confident in how you’re dressed and put together, you can let your personality do the rest of the work, engaging in stimulating conversation and having fun together. After all, your personality is really what you want to highlight on your date, especially if it’s a first date or one early on in the relationship. That is why it’s important to bring your personality into what you wear. You probably already do this, whether you realize it or not. That exuberant printed blouse you love? It speaks volumes about how you like to engage others in conversation and how you’re perhaps more of an extrovert than an introvert. Your favorite summer dress speaks to your more feminine side. A romper says you like the silhouette of a dress but are still ready for whatever the day throws at you! Wearing something that highlights your best feature, your personality, is always the way to go.

Plan an Unexpected Activity

If you want to wow on your summer date, planning an unexpected activity is one of the most effective ways to do it. Taking charge and organizing something you love doing, or have been wanting to do forever, is a fantastic way to spend time with someone. It allows the two of you to share a unique experience that brings you closer and that you can remember and talk about in the future. Perhaps you’ll plan a trip to the beach, embracing the summer heat and the gorgeous natural landscape of the shore. Throw on your favorite bathing suit , load up your beach bag with fun beach games like kadima or a soccer ball, and get going! Or maybe you and your date would enjoy a trip to a roller skating rink, where you can show off your moves or learn a trick or two! Many ice skating rinks transform into roller rinks in the warmer months, making it a great summer date destination. A bike ride is another great summer date idea, getting you moving, releasing endorphins, and giving you both the chance to explore a new landscape to one or both of you. Biking to a destination like a diner or a nature reserve is a great way to get excited for what lies ahead as you ride together in the sun!

Try a New Silhouette

If you’ve been wanting to wear that new style of dress or neckline, now’s your chance! A date is a great time to wear something outside of the norm — helping you feel a sense of occasion and bringing that same energy to your summer rendezvous. In the summer, we can easily show off a wrap dress or a sweetheart neckline without having to cover it up with layer after layer to protect ourselves from the cold. Now, our outfits can shine on their own and really wow our date. Try a trendy square neckline or a pair of high-waisted pants to make a statement with your style, or a bold necklace or pair of earrings. It’s all about doing something that makes you feel good and letting that feeling spread — you’ll find it’s quite infectious!

Remember, it’s also important to take the summer heat into account, wearing (and bringing) loads of sunscreen and not over-dressing simply because we wanted to wear that silk long-sleeve shirt that looks so good on us. Dressing for the heat is another major way to look and feel your best on your summer date. Check out the links below for more tips and tricks from Lands’ End!
