Don’t we just love it when spring arrives? No shade to winter, but in most places, spring means warmer weather and more daylight. In other words, you have more time outdoors! If you’re looking for ways to spend time with your family once spring arrives, read our seven ideas.
Various people enjoy Easter beyond for religious purposes. And, why not? Who doesn’t love to indulge in chocolate eggs, peeps, and jellybeans? Easter is a wonderful time to spend time with your family. Classic activities include decorating eggs, giving away baskets, and an Easter egg hunt. However, switch things up this spring. You can enjoy an Easter brunch with your family, allowing everyone to bring out their best jersey dresses, skirts, dress shirts, and dress pants. You can make bunny masks with the kids. Or you can go on an Easter-themed scavenger hunt. No matter what, try something new this Easter!
Gardening is a great activity for quality time with your kiddos. Plus, gardening is a fun way to introduce kids to nature while engaging their sense of wonder and curiosity. Gardening can help show kids where food comes from and teach them about plants and bugs. Pick our seeds that are ideal to start growing in spring to plant with your kids, such as peas, squash, or beautiful sunflowers. Gardening can be an ongoing activity throughout the season. You can bond with your little ones by asking them about their favorite bugs, plants, and flowers.
Alternatively, your family can volunteer at a local community garden. Community gardens provide fresh food for free for the community. Volunteering at a community garden can help your kids understand the value of giving back to others. No matter where you decide to have your gardening adventure, make sure everyone’s wearing clothes they don’t mind getting dirty, such as old T-shirts, overalls, long shorts, or jeans. Match outfits with sneakers or boots that can survive dampness.
Camping during the springtime is a way to let everyone stretch their legs. There’s just so much you can do during this exciting activity. Before settling, your family can go on a hike. While wearing sturdy footwear and moisture-wicking, lightweight apparel, you all can explore nature beyond the campsite. While hiking, consider playing nature games, such as I-Spy. See how many types of plants and animals your kids can spot and name.
Besides hiking, your family can do plenty of other activities, such as swimming. Pack swimsuits for everyone in the crew to get the chance to cool down in the water. Also, a classic camping experience includes toasting marshmallows while sitting around the campfire telling scary stories or playing the guitar. Then, switch things up by going fishing, bird watching, or star gazing.
Another way to enjoy fresh food is by going to your local farmer’s market. What are your family’s favorite foods and treats? Many farmer’s markets have plenty to choose from, and the food is usually a healthier alternative to foods found in supermarkets (outside of the yummy pies, of course). Plus, sometimes, you can discover handmade jewelry, accessories, and art. Some farmers’ markets also include entertainment, such as local musicians or storytelling. You don’t have to dress up to enjoy a farmers’ market. Everyone can wear their favorite casual spring-ready clothes.
With all the fresh food from your garden or the farmers’ market, why not have a picnic in the park? Picnicking is a lovely way to spend a spring day with your family. There are plenty of snacks you can bring along for plenty of colors in your basket. Pack a range of fruits, vegetables, pies, chips, and muffins. Also, prepare multiple sandwiches and bite-sized appetizers that you know your family will love. Finally, make sure you pack drinks in a cooler, such as punch, soda, sweet tea, and water. Enjoy your day in the park by playing music. Find other games to play after enjoying all the yummy foods, such as hide-n-seek. If there’s a playscape and swings, your little ones would want to explore. Don’t leave your dog at home if you have one! Allow the family pet to get some fresh air and enjoy the scents or the neighborhood park.
Nothing says “Relaxation” like a day on the beach. If you’re lucky enough to live near a beach, what are you waiting for? Springtime is a great time to head out and lounge by the water. However, if you don’t live close to any beaches, perhaps you can plan a vacation to one. At the beach, there are plenty of fun activities you can do. From playing volleyball to building sandcastles, a day at the beach can be more than sipping mimosas while rocking a swimsuit cover-up . But, hey, who’s going to stop you from lounging under the sun? You can also plan a beach party complete with music, dancing, and a bonfire.
There are plenty of new and exciting ways to welcome spring. No matter what you choose to do, remember to cherish those moments spent with your family.
