How to Dress for a Spring Baby Shower
Is there anything more joyful than a spring baby shower? While you’re planning that fun baby gift, spend a bit of time mapping out what you will wear, too. Here are some tips to help you look and feel great.
Dressy vs. Casual?
Baby showers can range from super casual to something closer to high tea. This will be dictated by both how dressy or casual the mom-to-be is and whether the baby shower guests are strictly from her generation or if they include her mother’s or grandmother’s generation, too. If you have an idea of who will be there (e.g., her grandmother who was a hippie back in the day, or her aunt who always wears a sweater set and pearls) it will help you gauge how to dress to look great and feel comfortable. If you know a few people who will be there, it’s wise to go a bit more conservative.
Fit and Flare Dress
A fit and flare dress is nice because you can dress it up or down. The A-line skirt on a fit and flare dress is one of the few silhouettes that is almost universally flattering. It cinches in a bit at the waist and then flows out in a lovely line. Add a classic pair of pumps and a little jewelry to make it more formal. Go for sandals to take it down a notch.
Shirt Dress
Unless you're at the dressiest of dressy baby showers, a spring shirt dress is a lovely choice. White always looks sophisticated (but can be a bit of a challenge to keep pristine). Pastel shirt dresses just say “spring."

Jeans and White Blouse

For a more formal look, stick with dark wash jeans. You can dress them up with heels or strappy sandals and add your favorite necklace and earrings. For a laid-back event, just dial down the jewelry and the footwear and you're good to go. This is a popular day to evening outfit for many women because of how easily you can transition the look. Just change your shoes and jewelry up a bit, add a little lipstick, and you're ready for a night out.
Yoga Pants, Tank Top, and Cardigan
For a casual, yet polished look, consider a pair of black women’s yoga pants, a white tank top, and a spring cardigan sweater. Choose a fun pastel or pop color for the cardigan to make it stand out from the neutral “canvas” of the pants and tank top. In these days of gender reveal parties, you may even know in advance if the mom-to-be is having a boy or a girl. If so, feel free to join in the fun with a pale pink or blue cardigan to fit the occasion.
Yoga Pants and Tunic Tops
If the baby shower is casual, why not join the crowd in a comfy pair of women’s yoga pants and a tunic top? This creates a graceful silhouette while being one of the comfiest combinations around. Black yoga pants with a colorful top are always a good choice, but there are also patterned yoga pants out there that can look cute with a white or black tunic top. If you choose to add a pattern to an outfit, it’s easiest to stick to the rule of only wearing one pattern and then choosing either a neutral color or a hue directly from that pattern for the rest of the outfit.
This ensemble will also allow you to move around easily if being a good baby shower guest includes helping to carry gifts, serve refreshments, care for little ones, or perch on the stairs if there's a big group.
