Group Halloween Costume Ideas

What’s more fun than getting to dress up as someone, or something, that you’ve always wanted to be? We can only think of one – which is getting into character with a group of friends, your family, or your significant other. Group costumes are a super fun and festive way to get into the Halloween spirit for a costume party, trick-or-treating, or wherever else the spooky season might take you.

Halloween is right around the corner, but don’t fret if you still haven’t decided on what you want to be (save the fretting for those jump scares at the haunted house!). If you’re looking for a last-minute Halloween costume idea for 2022, look no further than your own closet. With a little creativity (plus maybe one quick trip to the store), you might have everything you need to pull off an iconic group costume right at home. Read on for some last-minute DIY costume ideas that're perfect for groups.

The Incredibles

If you have kids (or if you just love Disney movies!) then you’ve likely seen this action-packed Disney movie at least once. The Incredibles isn’t just a fun movie though, it’s also an incredibly easy family Halloween costume for 2022.

To transform you and your family into these instantly-recognizable action heroes, all you’ll need is some red crewneck t-shirts for the adults and matching plain red kids' tees for the kiddos. You can print out the Incredibles “I” logo onto iron-on paper, or onto regular paper if you have access to fabric glue. You’ll want to stick the logo to the front of the red tees and then pair the shirts with red leggings if you have them. If you don’t have red leggings for the whole family, don’t stress! These shirts are recognizable enough that you can also wear them with black leggings or black straight-leg jeans.

For added warmth (and for added character accuracy!) layer the red tees over a long sleeve black t-shirt. Complete this look with some superhero black eye masks and voila! You’ve got an easy DIY Halloween costume that’s perfect for the whole family.

One Hundred and One Dalmatians

Okay, so you might not have one hundred and one people in your group this Halloween, but this costume idea works great for smaller packs as well. As far as Disney goes, One Hundred and One Dalmatians might be a bit more of a throwback than The Incredibles, but with recent re-makes and the 2021 Cruella film, you and your family will be instantly recognizable in this group costume.

To pull this one off, you should first decide if you want everyone to be one of the pups, or if you want a Cruella or any other characters in your group. For the Dalmatians, you’ll just need white capri pants, some white kids' leggings, or white jeans, plus a plain white t-shirt or long sleeve shirt. You can transform these white clothes into that Dalmatian spot print that Cruella so cruelly coveted using black sharpie or black adhesive felt circles.

If you want to keep your capris, leggings, or jeans more in-tact, don’t stress about covering your entire look with spots – just focus on the white t-shirts and your face paint. For your Dalmatian face paint, start by painting on a white base and adding a few black splotches. Complete these Disney doggo-inspired looks with Dalmatian ears you can find at a Halloween store, or by creating DIY Dalmatian ears using felt or craft paper, a bit of superglue, and some simple headbands.

While you can totally hit the town as a pack of puppies or two grown-up pups and their adorable litter, you can also easily add a Cruella to the mix to make this group costume even more recognizable. Simply pair a black dress with a white faux fur coat, a red feather boa, and Cruella’s iconic white and black wig.

Grease

We all know that “Grease is the word”, but did you also know that it’s a super easy couples' Halloween costume for 2022? You can use clothes right from your own closet to transform into Sandy Olsson and Danny Zuko just in time for Halloween.

For Sandy, all you’ll need is a pair of black straight-leg leggings, a black off the shoulder top, plus some red pumps or heels and red lipstick to really bring this look home. And for Danny, you’ll want a pair of black men’s jeans, a tucked-in white crewneck t-shirt, some high-top sneakers, and a black leather or pleather jacket to complete the look.

Once you have the outfits you’ll need, get into character by jamming out to the Grease soundtrack, or even watching the flick while you get ready to head out.

These are just a few of our favorite last-minute DIY group costumes for Halloween this year! Whether you opt for Disney superheroes, a pack of pups (plus maybe a fan-favorite villain), an iconic Grease costume idea — or if your closet inspires you to go a completely different route – we hope you and yours have the best Halloween yet. Don’t forget to take lots of pictures!
