Best Winter Face Mask Trends for 2021

When you have to wear a face mask, for both your safety and everyone else’s, you might as well make the best of it and have some fun with this new accessory. Now that face masks aren’t going away any time soon, retailers are perfecting them, meaning we no longer have to make our own or deal with uncomfortable fabrics. It isn’t as difficult now as it was at the beginning of 2020 to find a face mask that not only blocks respiratory droplets but also feels comfortable and looks nice. Face masks have become more fashionable, and there are a few trends you’re sure in the upcoming months. Here’s what you can expect in regard to winter face mask trends in 2021

Face Masks Are Perfect Winter Accessories

If there is any time of year that’s ideal for wearing a face mask, it is surely wintertime — especially here at Lands’ End in Wisconsin. Cold weather actually makes it easier to wear a face mask since it keeps your nose from getting chilly. Storing your face mask with all the rest of your winter accessories will make it easy to remember your mask when you’re headed out the door too. After all, how many times have you left the house only to have to turn right around when you realize you forgot your face mask?

When in the market for a face mask to wear in winter weather, consider choosing one that matches your coat, scarf, and gloves in terms of color or pattern. There are loads of face masks on the market these days, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to find one that matches.

Face Masks Can Represent Your Team

Watching your favorite sporting events can be more fun with others. There’s a sense of togetherness and a sense of purpose when you all join together to support your favorite team. However, you have to be smart about it. If you’re invited to an outdoor event where you can watch the big game while social distancing, a women’s or men’s face mask can show your support for your team just as effectively as your favorite team jersey. Check with your favorite retailers to see if they make team face masks. If they don’t, try decorating your own or making one with fabric to match your team’s colors.

Disposable Masks Are Still Ideal for Certain Health Care Workers

If you’re in the field of health care, you might have your own specific requirements to follow, depending on the patients or staff you deal with on a regular basis. If this is the case, don’t feel like you should make your face mask a fashion statement. It is more in-style to be safe than it is to be “fashionable.” That being said, you must check with your employer to see what the guidelines are. For example, if you work at a pediatric dental office at the front desk, your requirements will be different than those for a surgeon. A mask featuring cartoon characters featured can make the visit to the dentist less scary and friendlier for children.

Washable Face Masks Are Most Economical

To spend money on a face mask only to find that it is difficult to wash while still maintaining its quality is like throwing money away. If you’re not likely to wash a face mask, you risk exposing yourself to the coronavirus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends washing your mask after every use. When shopping for a face mask, consider whether you’re more likely to wash it by hand or throw it in the washing machine with similar clothing. If the washing machine is your answer, make sure your mask is machine washable. It should be able to handle warm water (preferably hot) and be washed with standard laundry detergent. Be mindful of what you wash it with as well. For example, you might not want to put your face mask in the laundry with a highly soiled bath towel that you used to clean mud off of your dog.

Masks Will Make Great Gifts

Gift-giving doesn’t end after the holidays. Keep face masks in mind when you have birthdays and other holidays to buy for. They make great options if you’re looking for gifts $25 and under as well. Consider face masks that say “Happy Birthday” on them or “Happy Valentines Day or “Happy St. Patrick’s Day” this winter. Or consider a mask that has someone’s name or initials on them. Given the fact that face masks need to be washed after every use, it is great to have extra masks in rotation, making face masks practical and useful gifts.

Until summer sunshine and heat return to the picture, have fun and stay safe with these winter face mask trends for 2021.
