4 Cute, Easy-to-Pack Outfits For Your Winter Getaway

The long winter months are ahead of us. Daylight saving time lets the dark creep in a little earlier every evening. It is time to make your home cozy, keep your family happy, and most importantly, give yourself a little escape to re-energize your batteries. The weekend winter getaway is the best medicine for the winter blues that can sometimes set in. A few days sipping hot tea in a lakeside cabin or building a bonfire at an alpine resort will do the body (and mind) some serious good.

The strategy when packing for a quick getaway is to reuse different pieces for different looks. And, of course, layers. The secret to keeping the suitcase light and yourself warm—and stylish—is to layer, layer, layer, and pack everything in one of our women’s weekender bags. Read on for four outfits that are ultra-wearable, toasty warm, and a snap to pack.

Puffer Vest + Jeans

Nothing says winter weekend like a women’s winter vest. A vest takes a lot of the guesswork out of packing because it provides so much warmth to your core and is appropriate in almost any winter weekend situation (okay, maybe not a gala). Plus, you can wear it during the car ride, making it even one less item to get into that canvas tote or weekend bag. Plus, when you throw it on with your favorite jeans, you’ve already got one outfit down, and you’re not even unpacked yet.

Be sure to check out our down vests--with 600 down fill and a slightly longer fit in the back, this vest gives you all the warmth without the weight. A vest can be paired with leggings, boots, and a sweater, bulky or lightweight. It’s your go-to to keep your temperature controlled. Plus, it’s a great outfit for a casual cabin look or if you’re out on the slopes.

Oversized Wool Sweater + Lined Leggings

You’ve got the vest, now we have to get those ever-important sweater layers underneath. A weekend getaway to a snowy destination means you need a sweater that’s eye-catching and practical. A women’s wool sweater hits that perfect note of cozy factor and fashion factor. The lofty cable mock sweater is a great option for a fun visual and something that’s on-trend this season. The mock neck or a full turtleneck wool sweater is smart because it reduces the need for multiple scarves. You can get a fitted size or one that’s a bit looser to allow for added layers underneath. Up to you.

Pair the sweater with some snuggly leggings. The high-rise fleece-lined pocket leggings will do just the trick because they’ve got a comfy elastic waist and lining all the way down to the ankle. Leggings have a small footprint in your bag but maximum warmth. Go for a neutral color and will complement any sweater, like deep navy or black.

Fleece Outerwear + Boots

One of our stellar fleece jackets will last you many winters. The quarter-zip fleece is the classic look: brushed, super soft fleece, color-coordinating zipper, mid-hip length. If you want to rock it under a vest, keep the sizing to your normal one. Go for a bring color to bring out your cheery side while your other half makes the fire and preps your marshmallows.

Pick up some cabin socks with a fun wintry print in a coordinating color. Our Muk Luks boot socks are high enough to peep outside your boot and thick enough to add extra cushion. Plus, the patterns say “winter getaway” with snowflake patterns, Fairisle prints, and heathered stripes. Add them to a sturdy boot that’s weatherproof, good for strenuous hiking, or a gentle nature walk is a decision you’ll thank yourself for making in the winters to come.

Flannel on Top and Bottom

Who said you can’t wear all flannel all the time? Not us. The winter brings all kinds of seasonal flannel prints, from cool teal Fairisles to blue and green Scotch plaids. You can choose from a boyfriend cut or tunic style for the women and the ever-popular button-down for the guys. Flannel is synonymous with the countryside estate where the getaway is just waiting for you to come enjoy.

Flannel pants certainly come in the form of pajamas, and we’re not here to stop you from wearing them all day. It’s your vacation, after all, no one is stopping you. Some great flannel-lined pants and jogger-style bottoms can transition well to public activities if the need arises. If you rock a fun flannel print, no one will know the difference.

You’re ready to go with a few solid items: a vest, some flannel, some fleece, and lined leggings. The winter getaway can’t get here soon enough.
