Women's Squall Parka
The perfect jacket for my winter walk to work- rain or snow!
My walk to work is two miles, and this coat helps me make sure that I'll keep up with it even the NYC winter. This morning, I walked along the East River with the wind coming off the water in a rain/snow storm, but I was as warm as could be in this coat. Even more amazing, I was dry as a bone when I got to work. The slight brim in the hood kept my hair entirely dry.
As for size, I do feel it's a bit smaller that other similar Land's End coats. I'm 5' 6", busty and weigh 155. I can layer this with a shirt and sweater without feeling like a sausage and wear thin rain pants over my regular pants without a problem. Some have commented that it is a boxy coat- it is. This not a shapely coat, it is a coat to keep you warm and dry. Having said that, the red color and reflective piping look great. It is sporty and attractive in that way.
I missed the inside pockets that my other Land's End coats have had, but did find the numerous external pockets invaluable. Then I started to write the review and saw that there was a very well (too well) hidden left breast pocket tucked into a seam. The mesh lower border inner pocket is not particularly useful, but I have put my ebook reader and wallet in it when I don't want to carry a bag.
Finally, a thing which I didn't know I would love so much was the fleece wrist cuffs! I Adds an extra layer of warmth over my gloves when it's rally cold and lets me get away with not wearing gloves at times so that I can use my phone more easily.

Slightly disappointed but keeping the product, relunctantly
I owned a squall parka from 2005, yes, 2005 and since it would not fall apart after numerous washings, abuse on horseback and working in the barn, I decided to purchase another one. I ordered the same size medium and the one I received was not anything close to the same size. There is a tight feeling across the shoulders that is annoying. My ten year old one is sooo much more comfortable. I looked and the large would not have worked in the sleeves, too long.

Feature changes, such as pockets and cuffs, we're not an enhancement, but a detriment to the coat.
I'm sorry to say I was not impressed with the changes that have been made to this coat. The cuffs are not cuffs at all, were too big and didn't keep the cold out. I didn't care for the thumb hole either. They work on a garment that hugs your hand, but it was too big to fit snugly around your wrist. The pocket just inside the coat under the zipper is now a Velcro closure instead of a secure zipper. I would not put my phone in there. It was located just under the flap in past versions, now you have to unzip your coat to get to it. The former placement was more convenient. The mesh pocket on the inside right side is useless, it may as well not have been put in. I'm disappointed in the lack of storage pockets overall. Finally the sleeves have been made a little roomier and I can wear a turtleneck and sweater in this coat. The hood has been made a little bigger which is an improvement. I would like to see the "gater" that came up over your face make a comeback. That is most convenient to keep the cold and wind off your face. I don't always wear a scarf, too much to keep up with. I love the hand warmer pockets on the upper part of the jacket, don't change those. The lower outside pockets are nice too. I did return the coat. I will wait and see what next year brings. I have been trying to find a replacement for my 2003 version of the Squal Parka, but haven't yet. I really love that design.

Although a beautifully made product, it was sized much smaller than my previous Lands End Purchases, including previous Squall Coats.
I was also told by the sizing "genie" in the website, that my best size recommendation would be a Large and the smaller end of the Large on the chart, as well.
That was the reason I did finally settle on the Large as I previously had on my old Squall and many other products. Lands End used to be consistent. This fit me so wrong, that I didn't even try to order the next size up fearing I would have to pay another shipping return fee. The hips were extra small and so the next size would maybe fit in the hips and the chest would be way too big. I even tried it on without the normal lightweight sweater I would be wearing underneath for my outdoor walks and hikes. This was a disappointment because the fabrics and quality of the product are what I expected. I felt sad because I fear Lands End is going the same way as many other companies in cutting back sizing. I haven't changed in shape or weight since my other recent purchases. Where will I find sizing true to the measurement charts now? and get a good product?

I looked at a lot of jackets and this one caught my attention. I am so glad I ordered it. It's very warm (I live in Michigan) not too bulky and not too heavy. The longer length is great for the really cold days. I would definitely recommend this jacket.. I would say the sizing is perfect. I wear a medium and it fits perfect with any layers underneath. I have longer arms and have no problems with this. The extra coverage at the end of the sleeves is great to keep unwanted cold and snow out.

Love the color - cobalt! I like the length, it's exactly what I hoped for.
The only thing I would change is make the zipper double ended. It's a longer coat and it would be nice to unzip from the bottom up at times.

Good fit. Love the color. Great price. Very warm.
I purchase a lot of items from Lands End. I have not had problems with any thing I have gotten. The employees are always helpful and go beyond what they need to! It is always nice to receive what you ordered and have it fit. The employees do their best to make sure what you purchase will fit when it arrives.

My 3rd generation parka. I love my 1st, 2nd and 3rd don't fit my needs.
The color is very nice, not an overly bright color red. The reflective seams are attractive and I like the velcro on the hood so it can be adjusted back on my head when not precipitating.
I walk my dogs every morning no matter what the weather. I need the opening for the hand warmer pockets to be wide and no rough zipper. I need the key pocket outside the coat between the zipper and the velcro, not inside. The built in "gloves" don't work for me. My second generation Lands End parka was way too bulky and heavy. I hate to even bring it along. I should have purchased several of my 1st L. E's parkas, it was perfect. Signed: Goldilocks

I bought this jacket and it survived the best test possible when I went to Canada and temps were down to -27! I am 5'8" and about 150 and bought a Medium which ran a little big. This came in handy when I had to layer up and wasn't too hot when I was in 40 degrees with a lighter layer underneath. It is the end of the season but if this jacket is presented in next year's collection I would grab it. Weatherproof, warm, and I love the details like the extra hand protection with thumb holes, fleece lined hood, and so many pockets that I didn't need to lug around a purse!

15 years later, my favorite winter coat
I am amazed at how well this coat has performed. The zippers work have been greatl under fairly rough treatment and the coat is warm and very comfy.
