The New Year is almost here, and with it comes the opportunity for a fresh start, new beginnings, and (hopefully) some rest and relaxation. Dressing for this chilly time of year can be tricky, especially when you’re trying to coordinate a chic party dress with boots and a winter coat.
From home to party and back again, we’ve got you covered with sophisticated outerwear, pretty dresses, stunning sweaters, and last but definitely not least, comfy loungewear for relaxing at home.
If you’re attending a party in your finest, a long black winter coat looks stunning over a dress, tights, and heels. Don’t forget to pair it up with earrings and a necklace for extra sparkle. Pair a winter coat with winter boots or fashion boots for a warmer and no less stylish option. Many women’s winter boots are so fashionable now that they easily double as a permanent part of an outfit (no more switching in and out of them when you arrive and leave).
If your priority is warmth (we’re with you!), try out women’s thermals. They are often fitted, so they are smooth and unobtrusive underneath jeans, sweaters, shirts, and leggings. This way, you can be warm no matter where the night takes you. For a little added warmth and a finishing touch, put on winter accessories like scarves, hats, and gloves.
Use your New Year’s celebration as a runway to start trying out your new wardrobe for the upcoming year. Take this opportunity to have fun with patterns and colors. Bold styles and colors like sparkles, red, black, white, and metallic gold and silver are all appropriate for New Year’s celebrations. (Plus, one of the best things about a chic party look is that, depending on the party and your workplace, you can usually repurpose pieces for your work wardrobe.) There are lots of different outfits to try. Pick out one you love.
You can never go wrong with a dress. There’s just the question of staying warm at this time of year. A cute look that is both comfy and polished starts with a turtleneck and leggings (plus thermal if it’s going to be very cold) and then layers a dress over the top. This can look wonderful with dresses of all lengths. Swap out the leggings with a pair of knee-or-thigh-high boots to get the right look. Ankle boots with a shorter dress, leggings, or jeans work well, too.
Layer sweaters or cardigans over your dress for warmth. When you want to show off the details of your dress, match it with an open cardigan. For a polished look, take a look at our fine cashmere sweaters. With the right dress and layering pieces that make you feel your best, you can enjoy the party and mingle with confidence.
One of our favorite outfits that work well at home, at work, or at a party is a winter sweater with white or black jeans and winter boots. Not only is it comfortable and warm, but it also lends itself to layering and is great if you’re on the go. Switch out the jeans for leggings for a little added flexibility and comfort. Make this look work for you with a short, more fitted sweater that looks chic or a chunky sweater that looks cute and cozy. Pair this up with winter vests, hats, scarves, and gloves, and you’re ready for a brisk hike through the pines, a relaxing day at home, or a fun vacation at the ski lodge.
Once you’ve arrived home after the party, that’s the time to get into your comfiest loungewear or pajamas. Or, if you’re spending the night at home with family, put on your favorite comfortable outfit right away. Women’s loungewear and even a pair of nice pajamas can look very put together when you’re spending a cozy night around the fireplace or cuddled up on the couch. Wrap up in blankets and throw pillows, put on your favorite music or a movie, and enjoy the night.
If you’re spending New Year’s Day in, brew some hot chocolate, apple cider, tea, or coffee for a perfect pick-me-up after a late night. Enjoy a peaceful morning in a warm sweater and leggings, and keep your toes toasty in a pair of women’s Muk Luks slippers or socks in beautiful seasonal patterns.
Another way to liven up your New Year celebration is with lovely seasonal decorations. Enjoy the holiday season a little longer with Christmas decorations or change things up to make your home a cozy winter paradise. Candles with apple cider spice or pine make a wonderful addition, along with white lights and pillows in red or gold. For an easy transition from Christmas, tone down some of the bold red and green decor and add touches of gold and silver to your home (black and white work well, too). These colors are less tied to a specific holiday and tend to feel fresh and new, like a blank canvas for the New Year.
Celebrate the start of a new year in style with warm layers, cozy clothes, and elegant outfits. No matter how you’re spending the holiday, find the staples you need to look and feel your best.
