One of the best ways to stay motivated when it comes to working out is having your gym bag packed the night before, so you can grab it as you head out the door in the morning. Having a bag packed encourages you not to stop at home before you exercise—because when you get home after a long day of work, you might not make it back out the door. The only problem is packing the bag when you are unsure about what types of activewear you will need for the various activities you may be participating in. Other than the obvious essentials (water bottle, headphones, sweat towel, etc.) we’ve put together a quick guide for these five different activities to make sure you’re prepared.
If you love going for a bike ride, whether it be an indoor cycling class or just a pleasant outdoor ride—you will want similar attire. First, you will want a nice pair of longer biking shorts or a pair of leggings to make sure your ride is as comfortable as possible. Next, we recommend dressing in layers so that you’re at the right temperature throughout the entirety of your ride. You will want an active tank top or t-shirt , with some long-sleeved attire—whether that be a quarter zip or a hooded sweatshirt. If you’re biking outside, having a lightweight jacket would also be a wise decision.
Whether you love to powerwalk or run outside, you will want to dress in the right attire to get the most out of your workout. An essential part is investing in a nice pair of tennis shoes that help support your body. We recommend doing your research on different pairs of running shoes to make sure you find the right pair that matches the type of activity you will be participating in. Next, you will want a pair of active leggings or shorts that allow you to run or walk with comfort and that will help avoid chafing. Mesh shorts are a great way to stay dry and comfortable as you work up a sweat. If you are running or walking outside, we recommend an active jacket so that way you have a nice layer on for a brisk morning or night, but it still allows for easy mobility. Bringing a wristband for your cell phone also allows you not to hold your phone in your hand while still jamming to your favorite tunes.
Nothing beats a nice afternoon swim—except when you forget your swimsuit. With that being said, you will want to make sure you have your swimsuit packed. We recommend a swimsuit that is chlorine resistant because they’re designed to withstand daily water aerobics without breaking down. These swimsuits offer plenty of stretch to ensure every stroke will not be limited. Another great piece to pack is a pair of swim shorts if you prefer more coverage on the bottom half of your body. If you’re on the opposite end, we have rash guards for more coverage on the top half; they are also a great way to limit sun exposure. Lastly, don’t forget your towel or coming out of the pool will be a dreaded experience.
Beginning or ending the day with yoga is excellent for both the mind and body. If you own a yoga matt, we recommend keeping it in your car, so it is one less piece of equipment you need to remember in the morning. To get the most of your yoga class, you will want a pair of yoga pants or active leggings that allow you to move freely. Make sure the material has wick moisture so that you can stay dry and cool. When it comes to your top layer, you will want to dress for comfort. If you love to wear long sleeves, a long sleeve mock neck tunic top is a great choice. Otherwise, an active tank top or t-shirt is always a safe choice for a yoga class.
Enjoying the outside weather makes working out extra rewarding. When it comes to hiking the most important piece is a nice pair of active hiking shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty and are comfortable as you trudge through the trails. Although hiking can get hot, we recommend active pants and an active long sleeve shirt or jacket to avoid sunburn, bug bites, and ticks. However, if it is a warmer day, you can always dress in layers on the top and take them off as you go. You also want a hat to keep the sun and bugs out of your face as well as sunscreen. You can even carry a backpack or hiking bag to keep your water bottle and snacks inside.
Being active is essential to living a healthy lifestyle. Find an activity that you enjoy doing and working out will seem less like a chore. To stay motivated pack your bag and you will have no excuse to miss a workout class or a beautiful day being active outside.
