Dressy Spring Outfits for Special Occasions

There’s something extra special about celebrating special occasions in the spring. Flowers are blooming, birds are buzzing, and we’re starting to make space in storage for our winter parkas again (it’s about time!). This collective excitement in the air and all of that sunshine on the horizon makes this the perfect season for fun and fancy events. As you look ahead to your spring plans and start to figure out where you want to stash away your winter parka for the foreseeable future, now is also a great time to pick out a few seasonal looks for special occasions.

The perfect dressy outfits for special occasions this spring will be a balance of formal yet breezy while also still keeping you warm (we all know how stubborn that winter chill can be!) enough for the event. Whether you’re getting ready for a spring wedding, a spring baby shower, or a fancy dinner date, you’ll find just the outfit you’re looking for in the list below.

For a Spring Wedding

Spring is all about new beginnings, which makes it a pretty perfect time to celebrate a wedding. Whether the wedding is indoor, outdoor, or some combination of the two types of venues, special occasion dresses are always a great choice for a spring wedding. Before you pick out a dress for the upcoming nuptials, double-check the invite to see if it’s black-tie or not. For a black-tie wedding, you’ll want to opt for an extra formal special occasion dress, like a floor-length gown.

If it’s not black-tie, go with something that’s dressy and seasonal, but perhaps a bit less formal than a proper gown. A sleeveless linen swing dress in a floral print or indigo linen, for example, can be perfect for a rustic wedding up in the mountains (ideally in or near a field of wildflowers, it doesn’t get much dreamier than that!) really any spring ceremony. Add a long cashmere cardigan to this dress and complete the look with a statement necklace and heels. This swingy silhouette paired with the elevated look of cashmere is perfect for the season and the occasion itself!

Another great spring wedding look is a fit and flare dress. The fit and flare style offers a touch of effortless elegance to your wedding outfit. This style works great for both indoor and outdoor weddings, just make sure you bring a nice duster or cardigan along. Opt for an elbow sleeve knee-length fit and flare dress in a springy pink or cobalt blue floral print and complete the look with some pumps or wedges plus a pair of drop or chandelier earrings.

For a Spring Baby Shower

Speaking of new beginnings, spring can be an extra magical time for a baby shower! Think perfect pastels, oh-so-cute ducklings and bunny rabbit plushies, and cute little floral print baby clothes — you really can’t go wrong!

A baby shower outfit should be dressy and chic while still keeping you comfortable enough to enjoy the classic baby shower games. That’s why maxi dresses make such a perfect choice for a spring shower. A breezy, boho-chic maxi dress is just dressed up enough for the occasion, without sacrificing any comfort. Opt for a flowy sleeveless tiered maxi dress in a crisp and bright peach shade or a teal stripe print. Add a stylish long layered necklace or a chunky and bright statement necklace to this look, and pair it with some wedges or cute strappy sandals if you don’t feel like wearing heels.

If the weather calls for it, be sure to wear or bring a women's cardigan sweater layer as well. A classic cotton crewneck cardigan in a springy pastel hue will work perfectly for the occasion and will likely complement any maxi dress you choose for the event.

For a Fancy Dinner Date

With the option to dine indoors or outdoors now that the seasons are transitioning, Spring is a great time for a fancy dinner date.

For an indoor dinner, opt for an elegant and chic silk midi skirt in either a print or a solid hue. A high-waisted midi-skirt is perfect for pairing with a slightly cropped or fitted women’s cashmere sweater. As we mentioned earlier, a cloudlike cashmere sweater will instantly elevate any look, so paired with some cute flats or kitten heels plus a statement necklace, this look is dressy enough for any fancy restaurant.

Spring is also a great time for outdoor dining, especially on those evenings when you start to feel a hint of summer in the air (we personally can’t wait!). Opt for some spring-friendly and effortlessly dressy wide-leg capri pants, like a pair of high-rise tie-waist wide-leg linen pants in flax linen or chambray. Rock these with a tucked-in boat-neck top and complete the look with a chunky gold necklace, plus a pair of pumps or heels. Just remember to bring a cardigan or duster layer just in case you end up needing the added warmth!

With one of these outfits on, you’ll be ready to enjoy any of the special occasions on your agenda this spring! We hope your season is full of reasons to celebrate.
