A Guide to Choosing an Outfit for a Spring Wedding

A Guide to Choosing an Outfit for a Spring Wedding

With the arrival of the warm spring season comes many a wedding and many a wedding invitation. Whether you are just attending one wedding this spring or you anticipate attending several, you’ll want to arrive in a stylish and stunning dress. For many, the process of picking out a great outfit for a wedding can be overwhelming; but with a little guidance, it doesn’t have to be. In fact, it can and should be fun! To provide you with some motivation, we have created a guide on how to choose an outfit for a spring wedding.

Florals, Florals, and More Florals

We won’t be seeing florals depart anytime soon; not in the summer, not even in the fall, and certainly not in the spring. If you have a spring wedding to attend (or several), we seriously suggest you consider investing in some gorgeous flowy, floral dresses. Not only do they make for excellent spring wedding attire, but you’ll be able to get plenty of use out of them throughout the rest of the season and into the following seasons. Are you attending an evening spring wedding? Then gravitate toward slightly more formal floral dresses like something that effuses a more vintage style (ie. a satin white dress with rose prints and an a-line skirt). Don’t forget to grab a shawl or women's cardigan for extra warmth once the sun sets and finish the look with a pair of strappy heels. You’ll feel like you traveled from the early ’60s and just walked out of your time machine. If you’re a woman who appreciates a darker, moodier color palette, shop around for longer dresses with light florals and a dark backdrop. Complete the look with a pair of nude heels to put all the focus on the color and design of your dress.

The Classic Cocktail Dress

Again, if you are attending an evening spring wedding, you can’t go wrong with an elegant cocktail dress. Keep it classy and vintage-inspired with something that has a shimmery finish and a high-low cut. Accessorize with fine jewelry or metallic earrings and a necklace and complete the look with your favorite pair of (comfortable) statement heels...after all, you’ll likely be doing a lot of dancing that night. Any color will do, but we recommend a dark navy hue if you’re going for a more dramatic effect or soft pastels if you are keeping in theme with the springtime atmosphere.

A Block Color Maxi Dress

Need something sophisticated and trendy, yet understated? A gorgeous, pleated maxi dress with a block color pattern could do the trick. It’s eye-catching without standing out and it’s elegant without compromising your comfort. A tall maxi dress with lightweight material provides you with the room to move around effortlessly and you’ll be able to shop an endless variety of styles, cuts, and colors. If you decide on block colors or solid colors instead of a busy, patterned maxi dress, finish the look with a pair of embellished heels. If you do decide on a maxi dress with lots of patterns or print like florals, stick to strappy sandals or wedge shoes.

A Satin Slip Dress

The satin slip dress is the quintessential springtime dress and is so well-loved that it is becoming common to see them worn by bridesmaids. For that reason, you may want to make sure the classic satin slip dress isn't the bridesmaids' attire. Once you get the greenlight and decide a satin slip dress is right for you, all you have to do is pick a color, pair it with some fabulous heels, and accessories with tasteful, ultra fem jewelry. A soft pink color or black are both great for either a daytime or evening wedding. If you prefer skirts to dresses, shop around for a satin midi skirt and pair it with a stunning white blouse.

A Jumpsuit: The Non-Dress Option

Feel like doing something a little different and less traditional or are you just not a big fan of dresses? A jumpsuit is the way to go. A sleeveless jumpsuit with a plunging neckline and wide-legged bottoms makes a powerful statement and can be made perfect for summer with a soft color palette (think lavender of light green). Complete the jumpsuit outfit with a clutch purse, a pair of open-toe heels, and big statement earrings and you’ll have the perfect outfit for a night of dancing and celebration.

While we have come up with a few excellent choices for a springtime wedding, there's no reason why you would have to limit yourself to the suggestions above. Shop around for women's dresses until you find the perfect style to accurately represent your taste and show up prepared for the wedding festivities in your favorite new dress!
