1963 - Land's End founded by Gary Comer, an avid sailor who has a passion for environmental protection and climate change.

1988 - Lands' End implements a paper recycling program at all U.S. facilities. Items include office paper, catalogs, newspapers and corrugated cardboard.

1989 - Lands' End begins donating scrap from pant cuffs to charity rather than going to a landfill.

1993 - Lands' End started conducting annual assessments of all operations to have a track record against which to measure sustainable success.

1994 - Environmental Steering Committee created by employees looking to investigate all avenues of recycling opportunities at Lands' End.

1998 - Began using 30% post consumer waste copy paper at corporate offices.

1998 - 96% of non-catalog paper contained recycled fiber.

2000 - Lands' End begins documenting and reporting our entire waste stream.

2001 - Gary Comer sails through the Northwest Passage on a research vessel studying climate change.

2002 - 100% of our used corrugated cardboard is recycled.

2003 - Began using corrugated cardboard that contains 45% recycled fiber.

2004 - Began an initiative to reduce overall US catalog paper consumption by more than 50% by sending smaller catalogs to better-defined customer segments based on customer preferences.

2008 - Recycled 193 tons of paper and 3,951 tons of corrugated cardboard.

2008 - Installed motion sensor faucets in all bathrooms to save water.

2008 - Recycled or refurbished 3.5 tons of unusable electronic equipment.

2008 - Bicycles placed outside all six buildings on the Dodgeville campus to encouraging employees to not use cars for meetings on opposite sides of campus.

2008 - Achieved BREEAM certification (LEED equivalent) of our new UK distribution facility.

2008 - Began corporate goal to reduce CO2 by 20%.

2009 - Began participating in CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project).

2009 - Created "carpool preferred parking" spots close to the doors of all buildings to encourage employees to carpool to work.

2009 - Senior Leadership Team starts "journey towards sustainability" by striving to implement sustainability in three areas: people, processes, and products.

2009 - Lands' End establishes Go Green Committee - a cross-functional group of employees working to ensure all facets of the business are focusing on green endeavors.

2009 - Guaranteed. Green internal site for employees launched to act as a resource for employees to share ideas, tips and stories about how to live and work in a sustainable way.

2009 - Participated in the first ever "Earth Hour" by having employees from Lands' End locations around the globe shut off all lights for one hour.

2009 - Launched a community garden at all three Wisconsin campuses. Plots in the garden are maintained by employees and their families, and the vegetables and flowers are used personally, or donated to a local food bank.

2009 - Launched Lands' End Canvas brand with in-store fixtures made using reclaimed barn boards from around Wisconsin.

2010 - Instituted "green aisles" in our call centers, which feature workstations that are totally paperless - no catalogs, flyers, calendars or notebooks.

2010 - Became presenting sponsor of Madison's Clean Lakes Festival, which raises money to improve the lakes and waterways of Dane County in Southern Wisconsin.

2010 - Awarded our first "Green Masters" rating (top 10%) in the state of Wisconsin for businesses working to improve their sustainability (named Green Master company again in 2011).

2010 - Begin having a Lands' End employee sitting on the board of the Wisconsin Sustainability Business Council and the Madison Clean Lakes Alliance.

2011 - Ran pilot program studying wind patterns and speeds from dozens of areas on the Dodgeville campus to research the feasibility of installing energy-generating wind turbines.

2011 - Achieved EPA Energy Star recognition for fourth of our six Dodgeville campus buildings.

2011 - Awarded 2nd Green Masters rating.

2012 - Planted Lands’ End orchard complete with apple, pear and cherry trees – fruit will be used on campus or donated to a local food pantry.

2012 - Planted Lands’ End pumpkin patch – pumpkins donated to employees.

2012 - Started Lands’ End compost project using food scraps, brush, and other compostable products.

2012 - Launched Lands’ End sustainability website.

2012 - Installed charging stations for electric vehicles at all buildings on the Dodgeville campus.

2012 - Awarded 3rd Green Master rating.

2013 - Constructed GoGreen Wall in company wellness center to update employees on Lands’ End sustainability efforts.

2013 - Became member of the Sustain Dane “MPower Champion” program aimed at helping Lands’ End achieve five carbon-reducing projects.

2013 - Published first Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Report.
