Women's Stadium Squall Coat
Warm, Strong, many good features
the only thing I don't like so far is the velcro tabs on the flap. they automatically fasten and get in the way of fastening the zipper and unfastening it. so I bought some velcro and cut the tabs to length and covered each one and now, I can always go back to using them, but there is no impediment when I don't need them!
tough outer shell, windproof, very comfy and warm with great and many pockets and hood!

The Good, the Bad & the Ugly
I bought this coat to replace a another Stadium Squall that was about 8-10 years old. I finally decided to replace it because it was looking too ratty to wear to work. The Velcro was peeling off, and being a light pinkish/lavender color, had gotten stained over the years.
I am outside a lot in the winter, between catching the bus to work and walking the dog. Here on Cleveland, we have some truly nasty winters. My old Squall coat was perfect, particularly with the below knee length.
I am also very short, only 5"0, and Lands End is one of the few retailers that carries a big selection of petite coats. So I gladly ordered another Squall.
I received my new coat yesterday, and am wearing it right now on the bus.
Here's my take on the coat:
As warm as my old Squall, maybe warmer, because the outer shell seems thicker
Inside sleeve cuffs, which mu old Squall lacked
More flattering shape than my old Squall, because of the princess seaming
Scandinavian Blue color is lovely. Definitely a purple, but a deep blue violet purple
Overall coat and sleeve length in petite are good.
Glad to see snaps on the front pockets rather than snaggy Velcro.
Warm lined hood with no fur, that's not too huge.
I miss the two large horizontal internal chest pockets on the left side on my old Squall. Perfect for holding my cell phone and cash. A right hand pocket is awkward for me, being right handed
My old Squall also had a hidden zippered pocket on the inside storm flap, right side, which was great for holding a bus pass.
As another reviewer stated, the coat is big through the chest and tight through the hips. I am small chested with a pear shape, and my old Squall fit the same. I am about 165 pounds, size 16 pants, and normally wear an XL petite in Lands End coats.
The horrid side pockets! As another reviewer said, please bring back the hand warmer chest pockets! Those were awesome! These new side pockets are too high, even with my short arms, and too far back on my hips to put my hands in comfortably. Especially when I'm carrying a purse on my left side. I can tell I'm going to hate these new pockets. : (
Velcro! I'd much rather have all snaps on the coat. The Velcro gets ratty after a while.
Too long zipper. I miss the shorter zipper and snap bottom of my old Squall. Easier to reach the zipper pull and easier to walk in.
Overall, a decent coat and good value, but needs improvement.
Lands End, do you try your products out on real people before manufacturing them? If not, you really should!
Do you have any sort of customer advisory panel? I'd be more than happy to share my opinions on upcoming Lands End products in exchange for free merchandise or contests. : )

I sent this coat back
I loved the coat except that the Velcro was a problem., it did not stay shut, the Velcro snagged on other clothing....
It would only stay closed if I stood still and did not move or bend.
Too bad. Reordered a different coat.

I love everything about this coat. I purchased this coat first in the shorter parka version, then realized I
really needed it in the long version to walk a dog outside in a park. It's perfect, especially because it keeps
you DRY!!! The only drawback is the velcro flaps which can catch on sweaters.

Great coat, but not without a few flaws...
This coat is VERY warm and easy to clean. I'm 5'8" and it comes just past my knee. I haven't had a lot of trouble with the zipper, as some people have, but it hasn't been without problems. A better zipper would have been nice. It seems very durable, and I like how the hood attaches/detaches. Yes, the pockets are awkwardly placed--too high and too far back. But my main complaint is all the velcro! I've already snagged up a couple scarves and nylons, etc. It's a hazard to anything else you are wearing, anything anyone near you is wearing, and anything you walk past while shopping, etc. But at the same time it doesn't hold to itself enough to stick the coat closed in a couple spots rather than zipping. And the velcro at the cuffs is really pointless, considering the nice inside cuffs. Snaps would have been a FAR better choice, so much so that I may rip the velcro off and replace it with snaps myself. That said, I still love it--it's very warm, and I like the way it looks.

Warm and sturdy
First, the "Scandinavian Blue" is a lovely purple color as stated in someone else's review, which is fine by me since I love purple! Second, this is a warm coat, especially thanks to its impervious shell. It has an adjustable waist inside to help block wind and give a more feminine silhouette, and it has pockets in the front and on the side which is great, and the hood fits well and has a little bill of sorts to block out more rain/snow. I'm very happy with this coat!

Disappointed in changes
There are good things and not-so-good things about this coat. I will address both. I purchased one of these coats several years ago, and that coat was much better than the current version. I would like to see them bring back the features of the older version. First and foremost is the lack of "boob pockets". There are two front pockets on the current coat, but they are awkward to use for your hands if you insert from the top as your arms hang directly in front of you. If you use the side entry, they are too low and you have to hike up the coat. If you want to carry items, like keys, wallet, etc., it makes the pockets unusable for your hands. The old version had nice bellow pockets lower on the coat for carrying items, and a set of pockets up just under the boob area for your hands. These were wonderful. Please bring them back!!! Second, while I'm 5'6" and have "normal" length arms, the sleeves seems to be too short. When my arms are down at my sides, the sleeves are long enough, but if I bend my arms, like when I'm driving with my hands on the wheel, part of my wrists are exposed. Additionally, the rib knit cuffs are too far up the sleeves, and fall at the middle of my forearms. I'm constantly reaching inside and pulling down the cuff. VERY ANNOYING. Third and finally, the zipper in the new version is too long. The old version zipper was a little shorter and used snaps to finish the closure to the bottom. With this new longer zipper, plus the fact that is "women's backwards", if you're right-handed it makes it very difficult to not get the fabric caught in the zipper, since you have to hike it up to get the zipper together. You have to zip a little, pull the fabric down, zip a little, pull the fabric down, and zip the rest of the way. Maybe this isn't as much of a pain for someone who is left-handed. The coat is still as warm as it was, wind proof, and protects your legs. Those are great attributes. Please bring back the old features!!!!

I love the coat but I don't like the velcro closures along the front.
I bought this coat for cold early morning winter walks with my dog, so I could wear my job clothes underneath without long underwear etc. The coat is perfect for this purpose! It keeps me warm including my thighs and I don't get overheated either. The only thing I don't like about the coat are the Velcro closures down the front. They catch my scarfs and clothing, they catch when I don't want them closed, they don't hold when I need them and apply them. I would like snap buttons down the front as the pockets have. Also I would like a closure snap option at the neck collar, separate from the body of the coat but this would be an other design.

This is the coat I've wanted for a very long time!
After looking for many years I had almost given up on finding a longer coat that would keep me warm and dry this winter. I haven't bought a coat online before and decided to take a chance on a petite medium in plum while it was on sale. When it arrived I was thrilled that it fit the way I needed it to---the sleeves were just right, layers can be worn underneath, the hood provides great coverage in the wind/rain, and it keeps me comfortable in the coldest temps. The longer length makes a big difference getting in a cold car, too. Pocket placement is a little odd, but the lining feels great. The color is beautiful, the relaxed style is ideal for my shape (curvy), and it's very well made and seems durable. Nicely done, Land's End!

My first stadium squall coat
Last year, I purchased the stadium squall parka for my oldest grandson. I really liked the coat, so this year, I decided to get one for my son and younger grandson. As a cold winter has been predicted, I then decided to get myself the stadium squall coat. I love, love, love this coat. We just had a cold snap and I couldn't be more pleased. I was not cold at all with this coat. I have told my friends and family members how wonderful this coat is. I have approximately 15 coats, but when extreme cold is forecast this is the coat I'll be reaching for. I plan on purchasing the squall parka also. This is one well made coat and definitely will not disappoint.
