Women's Squall Parka
So glad I found this...
All in all I am very glad I found this coat considering the winter we had. Kept me warm and dry in many a snow / ice / sleet storm.
Two things that I am not crazy about: 1) Was disappointed I had to get the next size up; 2) The hood is oversized and for me blocked peripheral vision unless I folded it back a bit. Other than that I am happy with my purchase.

I am replacing a squall parka that I have had for about 5 years. My question is, what happened to the size of the pockets? The chest pockets and the lower front pockets are way too small. The bottom pocket no longer has a gusset. My mittens and hat do not fit in them. Very disappointed with the downsizing.

Love the Squall Jacket but Parka was too big.
I bought the jacket in wine and loved it. I thought I might try the parka for extra coverage. I ordered the same size small as I have in the jacket. The parka style is exactly the same with same great features as the jacket (except the parka is longer) but the parka perhaps was sized wrong as it was too large. It was returned. I was disappointed. I tried to get another in XS to see how that fit but it was too late and sizes were gone.

I love Lands' End and make many purchases from them, but they need to quit changing things that we loved the way they were.I have a squall parka I purchased in 2007 and still wear it, but wanted the beautiful new red one. While I love the color and how warm and stylish the coat is, I do not like it as well as my old one. The old one had two nice pockets on the inside to store your gloves, tissues, wallet, etc. and nice sized pockets outside on the bottom to put your hands or gloves in. The new coat has a tiny, almost useless little pocket on the inside and the outside pockets at the bottom are on a weird angle so it is actually uncomfortable to have your hands in them. The zippered handwarmer pockets are nice, but too small and unnecessary if they had just left the other pockets the way they used to be. I saw many other reviews that said the same thing, but they seem to be gone now. I have always worn a medium in every thing I have ever ordered from Lands' End for 30 years and the sizing on this coat is now different. It is smaller at the top. If I zip the coat all the way up, it is too tight on my neck and face and the hood is small and uncomfortable. They have made the sleeves and shoulder area more fitted, thereby changing the fit of the medium. I am afraid that I will have to return the coat and hope that next year they will fix some of the problems and have a better product. If they hadn't changed the pockets and the size of the arms, I would have given it 5 boats.

Great coat, but color is very different from what is in catalogue
This is a wonderful coat - very warm, very nice fit. I've worn a Lands End parka for the past 10 years that has worn very well. I'm replacing it only because of a faulty zipper. This version of the parka has some improvements, and two things that aren't as good as my previous one.
First, the color is wrong. The color shown in the catalogue is "Scandanavian Blue" and it looks just like my previous parka. However, in reality, it's purple. Not even a particularly bluish purple. It's something between a lavender and purple. Unfortunately it doesn't at all match the hats and gloves I have for my actual blue parka, so I'm going to have to return this one.
The other change that is not an improvement is that the handwarmer patch pockets have been moved away from the center of the coat, so the handwarmer part is on the side seam line. This is too far back, so it's uncomfortable to reach back to stuff my hands in there. They have added another handwarmer pocket at the rib level that aren't so far back. These are also fleece-lined and cozy. However, these pocket are quite small, and although they work for my very small hands, they wouldn't fit for most people, especially with gloves.
So overall, I'd say this is a warm, well-made coat, with a design flaw in the pockets, and a major discrepancy between the pictured color and the actual color. Very disappointing.
Also disappointing was the not-very-understanding response I received from Customer Service. I don't know how they could have fixed the problem, but they seemed pretty unconcerned and cool about it.

I like this jacket. I think it fits true to size (I am 14 regular). It took me a while to get used to the zipper but now I find it very useful. My only complaint is that the color wild cherry is rather orange-ish. I feel like a construction worker but I was too lazy to exchange it for a different color. I didn't rate it excellent because of the color.

I was between sizes and so went with the larger size, and I'm glad I did. I'm able to fit several layers underneath and still not feel restricted in movement (I hate feeling restricted). But since it has the drawstring waist, I can cinch it up if I don't have layers on and it does a good job keeping the draft out. This coat is plenty warm for Kentucky's winters, though I'm not sure if it would suffice in Chicago or Wyoming. It does get quite cold here, but it's not often below zero, especially during the day when I'm actually outside, so I just can't judge this coat for that. I will say I have the long down parka from LE and I pretty much never use it here because the weather and my activities just don't usually call for that. If I were to sit outside for a while, or if I walked to work, I'd probably go with the down parka, but running errands, etc, this coat is great. I'm quite happy with it--love the deep plum color and the fleece lining is soft. The pockets aren't perfect--the "hand warmer" pockets do work okay, but when it's cold I usually want to stuff my hands way down in my pockets, and the hand-warmer pockets are just not deep enough for that, while the bigger pockets aren't in the right place for hands, but I have taken to permanently storing my gloves in the big pockets, and they don't get in the way at all--plenty of room to store gloves without bulking out the coat. Other than the too-small hand pockets, this coat is pretty great, and I'm glad I got it.

Sorry but this is a lemon you left out the upper back insulation!
I live in Minnesota and they left out this in the upper part just look here it says (150-gram insulation in the lower body and sleeves adds extra warmth). Tell me if I am wrong but the one I got a few years back had it in it I can feel it by touch and is so much warmer on the back. Without the insulation and with just fleece it is obviously too cold on the back so you will need to wear thermal under garment, turtleneck and sweater under it if you are to survive here. Why Lands End did you leave it out of you lengandary Squall?

This is the best winter coat I've ever had!
I would recommend this coat to anyone, especially those living in Minnesota, Alaska, and Canada! No matter how windy it gets, the wind never touches you. This coat shields you from all cold, and the fact that it's waterproof makes it even better. No cold is penetrating this coat!

Got this in Black, Regular fit in Medium. I was worried that I wouldn't fit, but this parka is surprisingly roomy. More than enough to wear some extra tops or a vest for more insulation. Honestly though that isn't needed, this jacket is plenty warm. I LOVE the fleece lined pockets in the middle, a wonderful alternative to wearing gloves. The pockets on the bottom also have a fleece lined side pocket where you can insert your hands as well. While it is slightly loose, the shape is pretty flattering. My only small complaint is that I can't zip it all the way up, it's too uncomfortable at the collar. But it's fine, I think this jacket looks best with a scarf anyway. Thank you Lands' End!
