tip for velcro snagging everything
If you are like me, and love the jackets, but not the Velcro, which you rarely if ever use - go to a fabric store and buy some Velcro strips in the matching color.. Cut to fit and place over the hook part. Voila - no snags, and if you need to use the Velcro, just remove.

Bring back the orginal squall jacket
Jacket lining is to thick. The lining makes you feel like you are stuffed. I do not know why in the past few years Lands End has gone away from the original high quality clothing and squall jacket to something of lesser quality.

I ordered this jacket in red for fall, winter and spring when days are shorter. (It's easier to see red on darker days.) I was looking for a jacket for 15 to -5 degree weather and this fits the bill.
I usually take a size 1X with clothes I order from Lands' End, but I ordered 2X for this jacket because I might want to do some layering in the winter. I wasn't quite sure whether I was right to do that, but when I got the jacket and tried it on, everything fit so perfectly...the hood, the arms, the length of the jacket.
Like everything else I've ordered from Lands' End, I could see immediately that I'm going to love this jacket.

Excellent for warmth & keeping you dry.
Quality is great! Wish it had snaps instead of Velcro as it snagged my scarf over and over again. Cut is very straight, not curvy like women. Jacket is warm and not too heavy or bulky. I carried, packed and wore it from Texas to Norway, Sweden & Denmark. Really like the hood too. Wish the jacket had more shape to it.

Such a great jacket and for a great price!
I've purchased this jacket 3xl for a holiday and can't wait to wear it. It's great quality and feels very durable. I'm quite tall 5 ft nine and the jacket is just a little long on me. Not so long as it's a problem but might be if someone was on the shorter side. The fleece lining is lovely and the hood is great as it can easily be removed.

Cute jacket, terrible velcro
I ordered this jacket in red because of the sale price. Tried it on, liked it, but the cheery cherry red color was just too much for me. (I live in NYC where we have no souls and only wear black.) I also found the sleeves a little uncomfortable -- not tight, but bulky because they were a bit too long and had to be pushed up on my arms. I wear a petite X-small (5', 104). The jacket was short, which I wanted, but very wide, almost comically wide. I'm surprised that this is the smallest size available. I decided to return the red and try it in black (with a coupon code bringing down the price!). Am I glad I did! The black fits much better, is a bit narrower in the body, sleeves slightly shorter, a more flattering look overall. The black color means it can be casual or look a bit nicer. (I wish the fleece lining were also black.) This one was an obvious return, with fuzz and hair stuck to the velcro. I'll deal with that, because these jackets clearly vary within one size, and I don't want to send it back and risk getting another wide one.
About the velcro -- Lands End, why? Jackets are meant to be worn over sweaters and fleeces, and with mittens and scarves. Velcro snags. What a pain! Snaps would be an ideal fix.
(Now I'm hoping Lands End will come out with the same jacket next year, but with snaps instead of velcro, and a fleece lining that matches the outer color.)
It would be 5 stars if it didn't have velcro.

Yes, this is a nice jacket. I bought it earlier in the season in the dark purple, which is quite lovely. It keeps me warm and dry. My problem with the jacket is the velcro. I hate, hate, hate it! It snags the tops, sweaters, and scarves I'm wearing with the jacket. It also snags others' clothes if I hug them while wearing it. I will never buy another jacket that has velcro fasteners again. People of Lands' End, please, please consider using snaps instead of velcro. I'm sick and tired of it ruining my clothes.

new sizing not an improvement
I have worn these jackets for years. Apparently under the delusion that Americans are getting thinner and no longer wear sweaters/fleece under their jackets, the designers have decreased the hip size and the arm width. (I measured these compared to my old ones.) The new one is too snug over a fleece top and I can't move my arms freely. Boo hoo!

Warmer than the 3 in 1 systems
Purchased the parka version for my daughter on sale at the end of last year's season so already knew how warm and toasty it is, but wanted the jacket length. The photo shows that it falls halfway through the pant's pockets on model's backside, so I ordered the Tall because I wanted it to cover my entire backside, which it does perfectly for my 5' 7" height. The Thermacheck lining is so much warmer than the 3-in-1 Columbia system I have that cost me twice as much, and much warmer than my earlier versions of Lands' End squalls. And the drawstrings on the bottom seal out draft. Not bulky looking either because of the seaming. Great job Lands' End!
