Women's Expedition Down Parka
Great Down Parka - lots of pockets
I love this parka! It is warm enough for a typical New England winter day but not sweltering when you enter a store or mall (a problem I encountered with a high end, Gore-Tex, down jacket I purchased from a Lands End competitor .) It fits very well, similar to the fit of the squall parka, and the cut gives a bit of shape without being too restricting. I love all the pockets, which thankfully , are large enough to store gloves and hats. The velcro (just like in the squall parka) is very annoying, since knit sweaters and hats constantly catch on it - I wish LE used snaps instead. A bit more insulation in the arms would be better but I have found that they are warm enough with sweaters or flannel shirts (clothing I would normally wear if it was cold enough for a down jacket). The turquoise color is very pretty and I have received many compliments. I am glad that Lands End is making practical outerwear that also has some style to it.

Zipper is junk and coat is not warm
The coat may look nice but poor quality. The zipper broke the third time I wore. The teeth came right off when I zipped it up. The jacket is not warm in the arms either. The insulation is in the torso part. When it goes below 30 degrees you arms freeze even with a sweater underneath. Very dissatisfied

Disappointed with design.
I purchased this in hopes of replacing my 9 year old Squall jacket. The red is very bright, and sizing is accurate. Workmanship seems good. However, there are velcro closures on both sleeves, the back 'belt', and along the 'storm flap'. First of all the velcro is black, therefore extremely noticeable. The velcro makes the jacket look cheap in my opinion, and it will be difficult (if not impossible) to keep the velcro free of pet hair.
Snaps would have been a much more practical solution. I may be returning this.

I live in Michigan and need a very warm coat. I was very happy with the quality and styling of the coat. The coat is true to size and I felt the length was perfect . I am 5' 6" and the coat gave me good coverage without being too long. I dislike fur trim, so I removed the trim. It zips off. I really liked the rib knit collar. It feels nice and keeps out the cold and wind.

Otherwise perfect parka is compromised by the poorly designed collar
My daughter had a little kids expedition parka a few years ago, which was truly awesome and duly earned its 5 rating, but I never ordered the women´s version for me before it sold out. So I was truly excited to see the parka in women´s size offered, and love the red color. But the choking sensation of the black knit collar with stiff fabric in the zipper area detracts from the jacket, and I am sadly not sure I can keep it. The collar is too uncomfortable, and would completely get in the way of using a scarf. I am not sure how the collar can manage to give such a choking sensation, since the black knit fabric is actually much too loose to do much good at keeping out the weather/snow, but it firmly puts the stiff fabric right against my adam´s apple when fully zipped, and cannot flip down either. Without the collar this item would be a 5, but since the collar is a negative 10 I will be generous and give an overall 3 rating.
Why mess with the perfection of the fleece lined non-choking collar that was offered in the children´s version of a few years back?
Land´s end designers, you need to fix this one.

Outstanding Features and Value
I have been a Lands End customer for about 15 years and this is the best parka I've ever seen Lands End come out with. For years, the warmest parka had been the Insulated Squall, and almost every year or other year I'd buy one. It was a great coat, but features started being taken away from it over the years and by last year I was no longer happy with it. But this year LE brought out the incredible Expedition Parka. I love this parka so much that I went back and ordered another one just in case LE doesn't carry it next year.
The Expedition Parka is everything I could want in a serious winter coat. The coat has great features and when you see it in person, it also has very impressive workmanship. It's just impeccable. It's very hard to explain in a review just how nice this jacket is.
It's waterproof, has a fully quilted lining, lots of pockets whose placement is excellent, the faux fur hood keeps snow from blowing in your face and the hood itself is insulated. The sleeves have wonderful inner cuffs with outer velcro tabs that look very classy and give you that perfect fit. The collar is a real beauty- it's a ribbed knit. There's attention to detail everywhere you look. Both the waist and hood can both be adjusted for fit. To really appreciate this jacket, it has to be seen.
I managed to get both of my Expedition Parkas on sale, but they are more than worth the regular price. This parka can be worn anywhere- its classy but can also be worn just with jeans. The red is a very nice shade, as is the teal.
I'm very disappointed that LE has a not promoted this parka very heavily. It's not even in most of the catalogs. I found it by accident online. This concerns me because I want this parka to sell so LE will make it one of their classics that is available every year.
If you haven't already gotten one, I highly recommend grabbing one, or two ;) Parkas this good that are also a real bargain don't come around that often.
BTW, I found the fit to be true to size. I normally wear a Medium Petite and that is the size that fit me with this garment.

I really really really like this jacket. It has AMAZING pockets, is super warm, and is a great bright color. Everything fits well and feels great and, as far as big 'ole winter coats are concerned, it's quite stylish. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is that I wish it was just a few inches longer. I'm pretty short so it falls mid-thigh. The coat would be perfect if it was only a touch longer. All in all, I'm VERY satisfied.
