Women's Cropped Cocoon Coat
Great combination of classic and trendy - and cute
I have been eyeing this coat for a long time but was nervous to order because of Land's End's unpredictable sizing. I would have expected to size up, given that this is a Canvas coat, but in LE purchases I can be anything from a Small to a M/L. So what to order? Once the sale hit, sizes were more limited, so based on other reviews I gambled that a 10 would fit me. And it does - perfectly. This coat is exactly what I was looking for. A strong colour, oversized, menswear-styled coat that hits just above the knee with a generous yet tapered cut that skims my hips. I am between a pear and an hourglass, with broad shoulders, so it's rare that anything other than a coat with a nipped-in waist looks ok. I was also worried that a cocoon coat could be too tight on my hips. But this one works on me, no pulling at the derriere, and the deep lapels are right on trend this year. The coat is well made - it's the good quality one expects from LE. The green is not as bright (not as obviously christmassy) as the photo suggests - it's a more textured weave between a background dark brown or black fibre and then a clear, strong emerald fibre. The effect is more subtle and, I think, more classy and grownup than the photo suggests. Almost tweedy - also on trend. I'm 5'5", about 150lbs, 39-31-42, and I felt sleek and up to date in this. It looked great with a knee-length pencil skirt and boots, and with skinny jeans and booties. It's definitely an outdoor coat in terms of weight, but it is more of a fall coat than a winter coat, wamrth-wise. I think women in warmer cities will be able to wear this all winter.

The coat is wonderful! Many people here say that it fits big, but it doesn't - it just has an oversize style, a little bit baggy around chest, smaller at knee-level, with low shoulder line. I ordered size 2. It loks great with tight pants and a bright-coloured scarf. It is quite light and thin, but it's has 72% of wool, so it's rather warm. I wore it today over a cotton pullover and i felt ok walking outside, the temperature being +3 Celsius degrees. I also loved the color, it brightens up the grey autumn days.

fits really big
I don't know what to make of this coat. I liked it at first when I opened the package. The color is beautiful and the weight is fairly warm, but it's not down-warm. I liked the length. It felt like being wrapped up in a cocoon! Kind of a hidden-away feeling to it that I did like. But it was really big, especially in the shoulders. I did "size up" I guess, to a 4, which in the Canvas line I didn't think would be so big. And it's a winter coat! I intended to wear sweaters under it. Anyway, I tried it with sweaters and it was still pretty big, and my husband didn't like it. I'm torn between exchanging for a 2 and returning it altogether and getting a more traditional coat. I like the front; the opening comes really low and I can wear scarves with it to change up the look. If my man doesn't like it, though, how fun to wear is it really going to be? It's a conundrum. But my advice is don't size up! Even though it is Canvas, your regular size is the better choice.

I've been looking for a coat that isn't the same old boring black pea coat. This coat is unique and has a stylish flair that makes it fun and a great addition to my wardrobe. It's also warm, a nice length, and just enough of a "cocoon" coat to be fun without being ridiculous or only practical on a runway. I wear a straight size 2 in LE, so got this in a 2 and it fit beautifully. The arms are a bit longer, but I think that's part of the sleeve style and I don't mind it at all.

Size up !
Too bad that canvas stop at size 14 ! Love the colors offered vs regular LE.

I'm very happy with the product, though I was anxious about the fit. I usually wear size 14 and here I took 12 and it fit great. I'm 175 cm tall and the coat hits slightly above the knee and the sleeves are also quite long to cover part of my hands, it could be better if they were just 1 cm shorter. I'm happy that I bought it.

A coat with character
This coat does have unique design--and I like it because of that. So many coats look basically the same with little to make them stand out. The color is beautiful and it's a very substantial, rather heavy coat. The look is very current right now--you can find many references in style magazines to cocoon coats from high-end designers.
In a size 4, the coat tapers down from 22" across under the arms to about 19" across at the hem. From the back neck to the hem it's 35". The sleeves are dolman--meaning that the over-the-shoulder seam joining the sleeve to the coat falls lower on the arm. It's not at the top, and the sleeve width also tapers as it goes down. The sleeves measure 35" from the center back neckline to the cuff.
My only complaint is that the photo hides the fact that the sleeves have a 3-button cuff--kind of laborious to shorten. They aren't working button holes, so it's probably possible to pick out the stitching and alter the length. I have short arms and knew I'd have to alter, but didn't think that would be complicated because I saw a regular, straight cuff in the photo.
But I'll keep it, since I got it at a great price with free shipping. It will be a fun, funky coat for winter. It would probably sell really well at a couple other websites I can think of. Maybe it's a little TOO unique for Lands End and/or Canvas?

One of My Favorite Coats
I am 5ft 4 in tall and weigh 140. I wear mostly mediums in everything, but since I wear a lot of heavy sweaters in winter and don't like to feel restricted, I decided to try this in a large. The color is beautiful and the cocoon shape is not exaggerated and is just roomy enough to work with heavy sweaters and fleeces underneath. I'm very happy with my green coat! And the price is right!

Beautiful material, but the design is goofy
I love the material (a textured green), beautiful quality and a nicely made coat. I used to sew, so I know. But the design is goofy and the picture is misleading.... the coat balloons out in the middle, so the fit is completely unflattering when you put it on. I wasn't familiar with the 'cocoon' style, but I am now. I was truly disappointed. I gave this a FAIR rating because the quality is very good... the design is just not flattering.
