Women's Classic Squall Jacket
I ordered a petite medium (I usually wear a petite size 8-10) and it fits perfectly. Quality is great. I'm so pleased with this purchase and wish they had it in more colors.

cut much too small for layering.....not useful for the rainy Pacific Northwest
Unfortunately, this jacket isn't cut large enough to use as a layer. For that reason, I'll be giving it to my size 8 sister even though it is a size L. I can usually wear L without a problem, but this is way way too small to be useful for me. I simply couldn't even wear a fleece vest/long-sleeve tee under it and without that capability it's useless.

Comfortable warm jacker, just a little noisy
It was time to replace my jacket that I bought in 2006. I searched and read reviews. I finally decided to give this jacket a try. I am glad that I did. Also glad that I waited until it was on sale. I wish that it was no so noisy, but that is the fabric's problem and I can tolerate that.

Less Generous than earlier version
If I'd never owned the old version I'd be thrilled with the look and fit of the new one.... but I want my next Squall jacket to be EXACTLY like my old one. It is a working coat (not a dress coat). I wear it everywhere everyday (going to job sites, hanging out, camping, hiking, on airplanes. gardening) 3 seasons out of the year. But my old coat is worn out and I'd like to get a happier color than the black one I own.
I bought the new beautiful Blackberry Squall this year, but thinking of returning it to wait for next year's version. The Squall I've owned for over 10 years gets continuous 3 seasons user. I prefer my ratty old Black Squall jacket (with worn out ribbing and broken zipper) over the new beautiful Blackberry one for the same reasons mentioned in some of the other reviews.
The differences that matter to me; Old Squall versus new: 1- Generous cut in sleeves so that you can layer this over a sweater or hoody or wear alone (new squall is tailored too tight in sleeves for layering); 2- Length in sleeves long enough to comfortably cover wrists even when hands are up on the steering wheel (new squall seems shorter in sleeve length than the old version. A little longer is better than shorter b/c the ribbed cuff keeps hands free); 3-Pockets on the inside should be deep like the men's version for safely storing a wallet (the inside pocket in the new version is not actually on the inside and it is much too shallow, though I do like that it's zippered. If LE wants to keep this pocket in addition to the man-style internal pocket, that would be awesome. The little breast pocket on the outside of the new version is a nice touch and I'd be happy if LE decides to keep it too)
So now I'd like to let LE know what I LOVE about this jacket... let me count the ways: 1-I love the ribbed sleeves and waist band because it keeps the wind out and is very warm... without adjusting each time I put it on (leave the Velcro and draw strings to some other style). 2- I love the raglan sleeves and the generous sleeve circumference (old model) because it makes the coat extremely versatile for layering in different temperature ranges. 3) I love that this coat has the slick material lining the sleeves so that my other clothes (like fleece or flannel shirts) slide into and out of the jacket without a struggle and without generating static electricity. 4-I love the roomy warm pockets and am so appreciative of a real interior breast pocket (old version) for storing my wallet, passport or even glasses for safe keeping. 5- I love the fleece lining because it's warm, cozy and light weight. 6-I love that I can put this jacket on as I walk out the door without struggling or adjusting or even thinking about how it looks, because it always looks nice.
This jacket should remain JUST LIKE the MEN's version because women need a coat they can move around in if they are doing physical work or play. There are plenty of girly-girly jackets out there. Please don't tailor this jacket for feminine looks over functional practicality. BRING BACK THE OLD SQUAL JACKET please. (Some new pretty colors would be a bonus- blackberry was a nice start)
If you've never owned a Squall, you'll be happy enough with this coat. If LE changes it back to old styling, you'll absolutely love this coat.

Love this jacket!
This is my second Squall Jacket. I wore the first one for 12 years or more. This one fits a little snugger, but seems warmer. It's a great jacket for every day wear.

Had one for years and it got too big for me. Liked the idea the new one was a petite. Sleeves are good length and this one sits were it should and doesn't hang down to the top of my legs. One review said it was noisy, but I haven' t found it any worse than other coats in that type of fabric. glad to have a shorter coat for days when I don't need the longer squall version with the hood. I have two of those and they are great too.

Need Some Modifications
I ended up not purchasing this jacket. I am hoping for the modifications as other reviewers requested. I have two older squall jackets. My oldest has ribbed cuff sleeves as well. I prefer the open ended sleeves with the Velcro adjustments. It just looks like a nicer jacket and less baseball-ish. Land's End products last a long time and the ribbing makes the coat look more worn that the open adjustable sleeves. Both my old jackets have the internal pocket. I won't buy the jacket until the pocket is back. I can buy a number of jackets on the market without a pocket. The original squall design was better for every day living.

It's a good jacket. Like it a lot.
This is the second squall jacket I have purchased from Lands End. I have a squall jacket from years ago in white, and have loved it. I purchased this squall jacket in blue, but it's not the same quality as my older jacket. Also, as some have complained, the nice large pockets inside the jacket are gone. The fit is a little tight around the waist and hips, but, I still really like it.
This jacket is the best for trips to the mall or store; it is very comfortable for driving, too.
Overall, it's a great jacket and I'm happy I bought it.

Love this coat!
I ordered 2 of these squall jackets about 20 years ago--one for me and one for my daughter, one red and one green. We still have them and we still love them. However, I had been wanting a black one, so for Christmas I ordered myself the black one. Of all the coats I own--which is quite a few--this is my favorite! I absolutely LOVE it and I wish I had ordered it years ago. I often would not wear my red one because it didn't really go with what I was wearing. Lots of folks in their reviews complain about it being "noisy". The "noise" does not bother me at all--it is well worth any "noise" just to have a coat that is warm and comfortable. I would definitely order another one if something were to happen to this one. However, since the other 2 coats are 20 years old and they're still as good as ever, I doubt I'll have any reason to replace the black one!
