Rated 3 out of 5 by QueenBee2 The size is good but the bungee cords broke too soon
I bought two for my children. It is a good size for all the books and binders they carry. But the only downside is the bungee Cords broke in less than a month and I had to reorder new bags. I do not think I could return the old ones because they has some wear (scratches) on them.
I loved Land's End products but I think this time I think the quality was not too good.

This backpack replaces a "junior" size pack my 10-yr old has used since 1st grade. Although the pack looks a bit big on him, it fits well thanks to good adjustability in the straps. And, although it is big it is not heavy, so even after it's full, it is still a manageable weight. It has the kind of compartments we need for school and hiking and the bungee cord is a great option for storing a "grab-n-go" sweater or rain coat. We take it on family hikes and when my son runs out of gas, it is large enough (thanks again to the straps) that my husband can take the load without struggling to get the pack on his shoulders. This is a great option if you don't want the traditional larger, heavier school packs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Jfermamma Favourite backpack ever!
So far this backpack is the perfect school bag (& favourite colour combination) for my 5th grader. It holds indoor shoes, a lunch bag, swim suit, flip flops, a towel, homework & random other "essentials" for a 10 year old.
He finds it to be comfortable, he loves the adjustable sternum strap, the shoulder straps are nicely padded but breathable & the capacity is amazing. Water bottles & compact umbrellas don't fall out of the side pockets. I'm hoping it's water resistant enough to survive long walks home in snow or rain.
I expect he'll use this bag for years. (I told him the dinosaur embroidery was no longer available ;) I want him to still like it when he's past the dinosaur stage!)
One star short of 5 because the front pocket is pretty narrow & very deep and I can imagine things will end up at the bottom & never be found again.
I have no idea why everyone doesn't buy Lands End bags!

Rated 5 out of 5 by CgyGirl Perfect for Grade 6
We got this pack for my son who entered grade 6 because his old Classmates backpack, while still in good shape, was too small. This backpack has lots of pockets to keep my son organized while still being light weight. I was worried about getting a pack with a laptop pocket, since my son doesn't need to bring his laptop to school yet, because I was worried it would add weight and bulk. But the laptop pocket is perfect for keeping his textbooks clean without adding any bulk. Overall the pack seems well made and should last him till high school or beyond.

Rated 3 out of 5 by NicoleB1025 Great Quality, Inadequate Design
This backpack looks great and is typical superior Lands' End quality. My son previously had a Classmate that lasted him all through elementary school and held everything under the sun for six years, and I'm sure this one would have lasted several years as well. My problem when switching to the Featherlite was the design.
It does not hold nearly as much as the site claims. The laptop sleeve is a fine idea, but once he put his small Chromebook w/case into it that section was full. In the main section, he was able to fit five 1-subject notebooks, five paper folders, and a planner. We had to put his pencil case in the odd front pocket, which is narrow and deep. He had to leave his notebooks at school to be able to bring his two 1.5 in plastic binders and two packs of looseleaf the next day. The base of this bag just isn't wide enough to allow the bag to accommodate all his daily supplies. Fortunately, we used the wonderful Lands' End guarantee to replace it with our beloved Classmate!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Trespence Very sturdy...lightweight...backpacks
I bought both of my elementary school children the feather light mediums. My daughters is going fine...but need to upgrade to a large as my boy goes to middle school. These have really worked out well, considering my children have not treated them very well. They are dirty and scuffed...but holding up very well.

We loved our first lands end back pack that was used from Pre-K - 2nd grade and traveled as a carry on several times, hiked, etc. This pack has not lived up the same quality. The inner lining is ripped, the mesh pocket ripped only after a few months. We are grateful for the Lands End guarantee, but disappointed that we will not get the same longevity out of another pack.

Rated 4 out of 5 by UgglaOz Very comfortable bag with heaps of features
My son has used this bag for school for two years and loved it. It is very comfortable and light. The sternum strap is excellent. Lots of compartments; and the padded laptop section is great. The only thing that hasn't lasted the distance is the side mesh pockets for the drink bottle. But two years is a good innings and I have just bought a replacement backpack exactly the same so hopefully that will last for the next two years!

Needed a new backpack for school. Older brother & sister were given ones from lands end that lasted clear through college, so hoping for the same wear and tear.
