Solid ClassMateŽ Small Backpack
My daughter used this backpack a whole school year and still looks brand new. I dumped it in the washing machine to remove some dirt and it is as good as new. She will be using it again in sept. The chest strap is a favorite of hers. It is quite roomy. Would love if it hsd some more small pockets in the front, but rate it 5 anyway.

Great product but do not get these for 4 year olds!
The quality is great and they are very cute. I highly recommend them based on looks and quality. However, I bought these for my just 4 year olds for preschool and they are way too big. They are quite cumbersome for a preschooler and definitely not for 4 year olds unless they are really tall and big. Despite LE's age recommendation, I wouldn't get these until at least 5. (They are larger than the adult backpack I use regularly for comparison.)

Perfect Size for my 3 Year Old
We just got this as a gift and it is a perfect fit for my 3 year old who will start preschool in the fall. She is on the taller side (39 inches). We tightened the straps as tight as the go and it stays on her back very nicely. The chest strap helps to keep it in place...we will have to practice her unhooking the strap. Only giving 4 stars because I don't know about the durability since we just got it. As far as fit definitely at least the 4 stars. I imagine it will last through elementary school size wise.

Fantastic elementary school backpack!
I bought this backpack for my kindergarten daughter in September. It is the perfect size. She fits her school folder, library books, snow pants, and shoes inside and her water bottle fits perfect in the side pouch. When there are not too many books we can squeeze her lunch pack in there too. It has held up perfectly so far and I expect quite a few years out of this backpack. I bought my son a slightly smaller size backpack from Land's End when he started kindergarten. He is still using it in second grade this year. His is in great shape too other then the handle at the top on one side is starting to lose the stitching holding it in. It is definitely too small for him now, but we are making due. The top handle on my daughter's pack was made much better and I don't think it will come lose like my son's.

Perfect size for my 5 1/2 year old daughter
I really like this backpack as does my daughter. The only issue was that the tab that you use to zip it up had a gap in zipper part and the cloth tab fell off. Luckily, my husband found it and was able to push the zipper part together with plyers so that it couldn't come off again.

Love this backpack
It is a bit big for my toddler, but I want her to be able to use it for a few years anyway. The colors are vivid, and the monogram is beautiful!

My daughter hasnt used it yet but seems like the typical great quality of lands end products. I LOVE the chest strap and it looks great. Cant wait for my daughter to use it soon!

Adorable, but fabric is cheap and thin!
My daughter and I were so excited to receive this backpack for back-to-school. It looks exactly like the picture, and I was impressed with the reinforced stitching at stress points. Plus the monogram and image we chose are adorable.
But!! The fabric is a joke! *Incredibly* thin: NOT your average backpack fabric at all! Had I not monogramed it, I would return it asap. It *feels* like backpack fabric...except that it's emaciated! It will not last two months, I predict, before tearing.
Last year, I bought her backpack from Mini Boden: the straps were uncomfortable, and the upper handle ripped a bit about half way through the year. Finally there were the beginnings of holes in the bottom during the last two months of school. So I came to Land's End, thinking I'd do better.
VERY disappointed. One star rating, as flimsy, cheap backpacks have their cuteness nullified. :(

some things are strange
My daughter is almost 9yo (54" tall) and at first we bought medium solid backpack, according to height and age recommendations. It was HUGE, so we had to order Small instead (which is a bit small for her). What I didn't like about both of them, is that they are too long and narrow. I would prefer them to be not so long but rather a bit wider.
What really surprising me is that the smaller compartment inside has NO pockets or anything at all - I mean those small pockets for small items or pencil holders - nothing. We will keep it only if I don't come up with better backpack.
Otherwise: looks well-made and pleasant to look at and hold in your hands.

We have had several Land's End Backpack/bags/lunchboxes. They are worth the money. You can use them 2 years and they still look new. My kids love the monograms and patches.
