Print ClassMateŽ Small Backpack
Mesh pocket came undone after first few weeks of use
I have purchased this backpack for the last few years because I like the smaller size for my young son and was impressed with the quality. He's now in 2nd grade and we ordered this for him again this year (orange camo) and while the others held up for the entire school year + daily outdoor summer camp, this particular backpack's quality didn't hold up. The mesh pocket came completely undone within the first month of use. The seam totally gave out. Very disappointed in this year's quality and when I tried to exchange it after the school year had begun, I was told it was already sold out. Interestingly, I noticed another reviewer had the same issue with her son's backpack.

Sturdy Backpacks, Kids love them
I was hesitant to order these after reading reviews about the zippers, but ordered 3 sized to my kids (small, medium & large). They have ample room & expand outwards vs. down (I hate long backpacks swinging around on the kids.) The quality exceeded my expectations and although the zippers are not YKK heavy duty I don't see them splitting unless the pack is weighted to extremes. Love the tabs on the outside for hanging a lunch kit or carabiner bottle on, the snap open coat strap is genius! Was pleased with the light weight of these packs compared to other available on the market. Will be trying the XL size next year when my oldest heads to Jr High.

Two straps ripped after three weeks of use
I was very sorry to see that the top handle strap and the front clip strap both ripped after only three weeks of use by my six year old. In 1st grade he isn't carrying home heavy books, so it makes me disappointed in the quality. And of course it is sold out, so I can't exchange it. :( I purposely bought from Lands End to avoid this kind of hassle. And of course I got the matching lunch box.

Great size for PreK or K
We can fit everything in this backpack. A spare set of clothes, 1 inch 3 ring binder, the ezwipe lunchbox and a few other things. Love the outside pockets for a thermos/water bottle. And it is not to big or bulky. If I wanted to use it for multiple years/grades, it probably would have been a good idea to get the next size up. But is working for us now.

Good, but preferred the old zippers
This bag is just the right size for my first grader, who still doesn't have books to bring home from school. My only complaint is that I preferred the zippers from last year's bag, which were easier to open and close.

Smaller than expected
This is a lovely backpack my older son (7)has been using the medium size for 2 years and will again this year. Unfortunately I ordered the small and it will need to be returned because my kindergartener will need the extra room for snow pants. I have reordered the medium and I'm sure it will work great

Great look, durable and light weight. My five year old loves the extra clips to attach his matching luncbox and/or secure it around his chest.
Perfect size and fit for my kindergartener, he loves it. Great look and durable, but I wish the extra compartment/ seperater on the inside was bigger
Essentially it has one large seperate zip up compartment and a small one for personal size items on the outside.

Perfect fit for my preschooler
I love this backpack! When it came in the mail, my son was so excited and couldn't wait to put it on. It will hold a lot but isn't too bulky when there is little in it. The zippers and very durable and easy for a preschooler to open and close. It has great storage pockets and the mesh side pockets are perfect for a thermos or other large or small items. I purchased this with the matching lunch bag which fits perfectly inside or attaches to the loop on the outside of the backpack. Overall very pleased with this purchase and I feel that it will last for several years.

Bottom looks disappointingly flimsy
OK, I am basing this review on my initial impression since the backpack hasn't actually been used yet. My son loves the colors and it is no worse than the average backpack out there, so we will likely keep it. However, I was very disappointed to find that despite the nice features and presumably strong fabric that the body of bag is made of, the bottom is clearly a weaker, thinner fabric (not stronger as suggested). You can see light right through the whole bottom! I am very skeptical that this will last my new first grader through the year. For the little ones I would expect a more reinforced bottom since they are more likely to drag their bag when it gets heavy! I am reassured by Land End's fabulous customer service and time will tell, but if you have a kid who is rough on his bag, be aware this might not be the best choice! I have seen higher end backpacks out there with much more bottom support.
