Men's Waterproof Squall Parka
After 9years still looks great!
In 2004 I had a business trip to a rural area in Siberia. As it was Spring (March 21) I was led to believe that the weather would not be too harsh by then. I had no gloves with me and only a ball cap for my head. I did have my Squall Jacket and a wool sweater. The village I was staying in had a First day of Spring celebration -outdoors. The temperature was -19F! By the time I attended I had rustled up some wool mittens and a toque. And I was warm! My squall jacket and sweater were perfectly adequate. I still have the jacket and wear it every winter. It is light in weight, wind-resistant, and WASHABLE! I am out of doors every day hauling wood for the wood stove, feeding livestock, blowing snow, but the jacket still looks like new. I also wear it when we go out as I no longer have a topcoat ( hey, I'm retired!). Except for a down jacket I bought when living in Canada and still use occasionally but is too frayed and worn to wear in polite society, the Squall Jacket is the best jacket I've ever had.

Looks good, and works for me.
I live in the Southeast US, so the cold weather here usually doesn't compare to weather my friends up north live with. I've had a couple of occasions already to wear this in temps around 20F, mild winds. With only a t-shirt and flannel shirt underneath, this coat kept me plenty warm.
The zipper has been an issue, however. It is designed so that once the zipper is closed, it can be opened from the bottom. All good so far, I have used that feature for more comfort while sitting, and I like it. Getting it zipped to begin with is the issue. It seems to have a combination which I cannot always find quickly. Since the bottom of the zipper is not a fixed "permanent" piece but second slider, it's not always easy for me to get the two sliders aligned correctly, and the zipping started. I believe that is probably my clumsiness. I'm always able to get it zipped, but it may take 3 or 4 minutes. Never experienced that before. And as others have mentioned, I would prefer snap buttons to the Velcro. The Velcro seems to reattach itself without my consent while I'm opening or closing the zipper. This would not be an issue with snap buttons. Just a personal preference.
About the fit: it seems to run true. I almost always wear a tall-large size in clothing of this type, and that's what fits in this instance. The only drawback with the fit is arm movement freedom. It feels a little constrained where the sleeves join the coat's body. Not a show stopper, or even uncomfortable, but noticeable.
In summary, there are a couple of quirks, but no big deals (from my perspective). I like the coat.

Best Parka I Have Ever Owned
I purchased a squall parka in 1999, while living in Rochester, NY. It kept me warm, and I received compliments on its appearance, for 15 years. I have finally torn a pocket and ripped a seam. I think it is about time for a new one. This coat was amazing.

I am 6'4" and 260 lbs. I ordered the XXL Tall and it fits perfectly. I love the Blue color and the great price.

Excellent value once sizing is understood
In coats and jackets I wear a Large if it's cut roomy, an XLarge is it's cut exactly to size. That's been a guideline across vendors for all of my adult life. The fit of this parka wasn't specified online, so I bought an XLarge. What arrived was the single largest garment I've ever tried on in my life. It was like a clown jacket. I have a heavy/athletic build and, without exaggeration, I could have easily slipped a basketball on my stomach and the coat would have STILL closed without force. The shoulders were so loose it felt like they were slipping off. I cannot begin to imagine what standard is being used to size this garment. Perhaps something essential was lost in the translation to Chinese.
Exchanging it for a Large, it fit like a human XLarge: roomy but NOT flapping in the breeze, with sufficient swing in the shoulders: like a normal XLarge. Nonetheless, it's adequatetly warm for a New York Winter, likely requiring an additional sweater when the temperature dips below the 20s with wind. Otherwise, it's a cleanly-designed, highly-functional, lightweight garment. I would want a more robust zipper?it's flimsy for a winter garment, and a common weak point. Overall, if you can find your fit, a good value.

Too many changes from previous model
I expected this to be the same or close to the previous model I had; however, the zipper is very different in that often it does not "click in" and therefore gets stuck in the partly connected position. Also, the interior breast pocket practical for documents, envelopes, etc has been removed.

Land's End responded to a complaint about the lack of interior pockets with the following:
"Response from Lands' End:By Customer Care, October 6, 2014
Thank you for sharing your review! We nestled a 6? zippered pocket just inside the front zipper on the wearer?s left side."
I just wanted to note that that particular pocket has been there for a LONG time, and it the past, the parka had several ADDITIONAL interior pockets.
Also, the Squall line is honestly getting out of date in a hurry. It would be nice to see this shell with a zip-out Primaloft liner, for example. Perhaps fewer people would complain about the more recent versions of this parka being not very warm if that were an option. I have two older versions of this parka, but am afraid to buy another based on the reviews and the market decline in quality of other Land's End products over the last couple of years.

I'm 6 ft tall and the regular is a perfect length
I Like the coat and the French Walnut is a pretty color. It zips well but I think I prefer snaps over the Velcro on the front zipper flap. This week was the coldest in 4 years and this coat was perfect. Womens plus size jackets are too short.

husband wore this out in single digit weather plus snowing, extremely cold for the east coast, however he wore this coat and was amazed, it fit well, it was warm without a sweater under it and waterproof
