LE Business Backpack
A great backpack instead of a briefcase
I use this backpack to commute daily to downtown Chicago. It is a roomy backpack, and can hold my laptop, lunch, notebooks, and a small umbrella, and there is still more room. I wish I would have ditched the briefcase earlier

Excellent backpack with a couple notes
I replaced a ballistic nylon oversized briefcase (about the size of the rolling case from LE) and this has more room and is much easier to carry than a strap type of case. I love the orange accents and put my initials on it in "persimmon" which matches the accents perfectly. Just some notes to add to the other excellent reviews here: If you're used to a more outdoorsy structured backpack, this backpack will seem uncomfortable with a medium laptop on board. The laptop area of the backpack is right up against your back, which doesn't allow the bag to settle naturally into the curvature of your back. I have a 15.4" laptop, which I carried for a week, and this was my only serious gripe with this bag. It's very, very flat, obviously, which then puts the corner of the laptop right at the top of your derrier. Not comfortable for long stretches. Luckily, I hardly ever carry a full-size laptop. I stow my ipad and an extra smaller crossbody bag in that area for the most part so no issues. My other very minor gripe is that it could use at least one more separation/pocket in the bag. For work, I carry 2 pairs of sunglasses, and 2 pairs of glasses. I had space for everything but felt that beyond the basics, my additional items were just kind of loose in the bag. The glasses now float around in the bottom. I also added another nylon zipper case to carry my paper files. One more partition would have made all the difference. (Not that I expect LE to design a bag with 4 glass-cases in mind!) Just a thought, LE: A velcro'd moveable partition would have been great! With these "gripes" in mind, I still give the bag 5 stars. For basic office going, commuter, train portability in mind, it works great!

High quality bag
I ordered this bag in January, and I gave it a semester's worth of hard labor before reviewing it. It is a wonderful bag. It looks good; it has good capacity (capacity: full-size laptop, 25 student essays, an anthology, my lunch, two drinks, and more pens and paperclips than I would like to admit). I use it for my daily work bag, but I plan to take it travelling as well.
Dual, high-quality stretchy cup holders on the sides--one for coffee, one for water.
The way it feels on my back--like it was made for me.
Professional look (I'm a college teacher, so I don't need boardroom leather, just a step above my students' bags).
Good quality zippers.
The zippers all look alike--I sometimes have to open several compartments before finding the one I want.
It could be just a touch roomier in the large (center) compartment.

A great bag for commuting!
I looked for a long time before ordering this bag. My previous Lands End backpack I'd initially used as a diaper bag and then as a work bag. It was fifteen years old and finally needed replacing. After looking at others from different manufacturers I returned to Lands End for this commuter bag which is perfect for me. I hope it lasts fifteen years too - though I hope I'm not still working in fifteen years!

Fantastic Bag, best quality I've seen!
I got this bag and had it monogrammed in order to replace my current backpack for my business laptop as I travel weekly to client locations and want a high quality backpack that will last and can carry everything I need for my computer, cell, tablet, etc, it does all that and more.

Fabulous sleek backpack
I agree with everything AnnieAlexa wrote with the exception that the chest strap on mine does slide - it's just very stiff. As someone with narrow shoulders, the chest strap saves the day.
In addition to a macbook air I put a spiral notebook and 1/4" of papers in the laptop pocket without problems.
I bought this bag in part for its looks and I think it delivers: sleek with no reflective stripes or colored zippers, just a bit of orange stitching around the top.
My only problem is with its height - 19" My torso neck to waist is 16". Sometimes I notice it bouncing against my backside if it's heavy and I'm walking a lot.
The zippers are very strong (can't just pull the compartments open) as is all the stitching - it is very well made & sturdy.
Hard to see in the photo - there's a horizontal strap on the back that will slip over a luggage handle. It works well.
I really like it for school, work, and travel.

I use this to carry my laptop and files and I have to walk through NYC. I have arthritis and this has made my life much easier.

I purchase this to take on our cruise the first of January and it was a great help with all the pockets and holds a lot! It kept me very organized with all the paperwork and cruise documents that you have to carry.

sturdy but not stodgy
My daughter, a senior in High School, purchased this backpack for an overseas trip as her carry-on but also to use as a school backpack. She has deemed it "cool enough" for high school but it's definitely sophisticated enough to not look kid-ish. It holds a laptop easily and is quite roomy. A conservative packer could use it for an overnight bag and a laptop carrier all at the same time.

This is a fantastic business backpack. It is more professional than other backpacks on the market and is very well designed. From the description on Lands' End?s website, I wasn't sure exactly what pockets the bag had, so I will describe that here for other people: (1) there is a front pocket with a horizontal zipper. This is a good size for carrying notepads, a wallet, or lunch; (2) the second section has a zipper over the top and then multiple compartments inside. There is one larger sleeve, a smaller sleeve, and then in front of that, separate sections for pens, keys, etc. all in this zippered area; (3) on the front top of the bag is a small cushioned pocket that is perfect for cell phones. It is easily accessible, protected, and zippers so the phone will not fall out; (4) the next compartment is the main, large compartment of a bag. This fits a lot of papers and books as well as legal sized documents. There is enough depth for legal size documents to fit easily; (5) the last compartment, which is directly next to the carrier?s back, is a compartment just for laptops. It is cushioned and fits a laptop nicely. Laptops do not jostle around when in this section which helps when carrying a heavy load. It is nice that this is right next to your back when you have the bag on so that the weight doesn't pull you backwards; (6) there are two cup holders ? one on each side of the bag. These are made of neoprene and keep your mug secure. This is better than the common mesh water bottle pockets because the coffee mug/water bottle (both fit) does not tip over when in the pocket.
I bought this bag because the amount I was carrying back and forth to work was too heavy for a shoulder bag. This bag has eased my back pain and made walking with books and a computer doable. The only downside to this bag is that there is a small chest strap that you cannot slide that up or down. It crosses me at the exact wrong spot for a woman, though it would probably work well for a man. I simply don?t use that strap and it does not get in my way, and I don?t find myself needing it, despite carrying heavy loads while pregnant and walking 30 minutes.
