When choosing the best protection in a winter jacket, coat or parka for kids, the decision comes down to two key words: “warm” and “dry.” That’s why we build our children’s Squall® Jackets & Parkas just like we do for adults with premium, bulk-free insulation and an ultra-durable, waterproof nylon shell. But we also add tons of kid-friendly features like Grow-a-Long™ sleeves, SnowGuard™ sleeve cuffs and EZ-Zip tabs for mitten-clad hands. Then we test just how much cold our jackets, parkas and coats can take. The results make choosing the best winter protection for your child as easy as snow days. Guaranteed. Period.®

Girls' Waterproof Squall Parka 4.5 5 51 51
This jacket is perfect for the winter months in the Northeast. I bought 3 of these coats for my triplet granddaughters. They each were able to get their favorite color and are very happy with the coat. The fit is just right. The jacket is made of a very sturdy material. The girls love the sleeve-cuffs and the EZ zip tabs. The coat is an all-around winner with the girls. September 11, 2014
great winter shell I love the squall parka! I purchased a girls XL for myself (5' 6" 130 lb) and it fits perfect. I purchased the XL plus first and that was too big. This coat is the perfect weight for most outdoor activities and if you need extra warmth just layer a fleece underneath. The ivory and gray is beautiful color combo. I agree with other reviews that there is less reflective features and pockets than previous versions but still a high quality coat. Purchased in January for half price...nice! January 22, 2015
Fleece cuffs with thumbhole are a mixed blessing I bought this jacket in size small for my 3-year-old, who's been wearing 4T for a half a year already. It's a bit big, so she'll definitely be able to wear it next year. The sleeves, uncinched, cover most of her hands, but are easily tightened with velcro just above the wrist. The jacket is well made, not bulky and seems warm. I particularly like the very warm hood, which is not always well-lined in winter jackets. Now the fleece cuffs seemed great at first, but then turned out to be a nightmare to find mittens for. They add a lot of bulk, and most mittens that are good for my daughter's smallish hands are too narrow to fit all that fleece in. What does go on, doesn't necessarily fit under the jacket's outer cuffs. And because of the bulk of the fleece and then the bunched up outer cuff, mittens that are supposed to go over the jacket don't fit, even ones that open on the side with a zipper or a velcro strip. Yet, because of the fleece thumbhole thing, you can't put mittens on before the coat, which is what we did last year, - the mittens won't fit through the thumbhole.. We have a pair of mittens that have long cuffs, up to one's elbows, and are supposed to be worn under the jacet - forget about that. I've looked for various mittens all over the internet, stumbled upon some ingenious designs I couldn't even concieve off, bought half a dozen different pairs - nothing fits. Grudgingly, I settled on Land's End's own over-the-cuff mittens, which are still very hard to put on over my daughter's jacket, but at least they can be put on at all, even if you have to struggle with them and the coat sleeves. I also don't like the fact that if my daughter wants needs to snack at the playground or in the car going home, the fleece thing - unlike her hands - cannot be cleaned, so she ends up handling food with whatever dirt and germs the sleeves picked up from the few times she was playing out without mittens. In summary - a very good jacket for an older child and/or if it fits just right. If you're buying it a little big so that it would last more than one year, and for a child with small hands, you might want to think twice. January 16, 2015
Nice parka, but returning it for last year's Squall jacket I bought this parka during the outerwear sale for a great price, but it's just not going to work. My younger daughter is currently wearing a 4, so I bought a 5-6 for her to wear next year. I expected it to be big on her, but it ended up being ridiculously big on her to the point wear it would still be ill-fitting even after a year of growth. Also, the fleece lining stops at the waist (why?), so the shorter Squall jacket actually has significantly MORE fleece lining since the fleece extends all the way to the bottom hem. Finally, this year's Squall coats do not have the awesome reflective piping/square that last year's Squall coats do, so I just bought a size 5-6 Squall jacket from last year (older daughter loves hers) on clearance and I'm going to return this parka. It's too bad because it looks really well made and the purple color is gorgeous. January 16, 2015
Perfect fit Fits my just-turned 2 yr. old granddaughter perfectly. She's tall and took a 2T in this jacket. No feedback on how warm it is or isn't. I assume it keeps her toasty-warm. January 14, 2015
Great jacket! Looking forward to wearing this for ski season! January 12, 2015
This is an excellent winter jacket! We purchased this jacket in a 3T for my daughter, and we love it. It fits a little bit large, but it is great overall. She may even be able to wear it again next year(if she doesn't grow too fast!). This is a great quality jacket. It is made of very durable waterproof material, and it has an extra warm liner inside. It also has a nice hood that is large enough to be able to wear a toboggan underneath without pulling it off every time she moves. I have been thinking about buying a size up for next year while they are on sale!! This is a great winter jacket, and I would definitely recommend. January 12, 2015
Attractive, warm coat While searching for a new coat for another child, I came across the fuchsia plum Squall parka. Although my purple-loving daughter hasn't outgrown her current coat, I ordered this one in the next size up, Big Kid Large. It's actually more attractive than the picture shows! Although it runs quite wide on her, she was able to cinch the waist and wear it outside happily for extended periods in our recent zero-degree temps. She's really pleased with the wrist cuffs and hasn't yet complained that it lacks the large inner pocket which her current coat has. I think this coat will continue to be a bit large even when she's in size 14-length items. For pockets, there are the two large outer pockets on the front, places behind those to slide one's hands in for warmth, and a relatively small hidden pocket along the zipper which has just a piece of velcro to keep it closed. This doesn't compare well with my older Squall parka with a big inner pocket and several other pockets, but I suppose for a kid jacket, that means less random stuff to clean out before washing. The elastic around the hood isn't adjustable, and it fits snugly now. The only other thing I really miss is the reflective material on older versions of the Squall. While the other kids' Squall jacket we own has a reflective Lands' End logo at the bottom center of the back and reflective piping all the way around the bottom hem, this parka has one tiny reflective logo on the left sleeve. Lands' End, please bring back reflective trim and big inner pockets on kids' coats!! All in all, this is a really attractive, quality coat, with a kid-friendly zipper, fun snowguard cuffs, and enough warmth (especially combined with snow pants) to go sledding in subzero windchills! Warm, waterproof, and comfy! Bought this for my 6 year old daughter and am SO happy with it. Wasn't sure how it would look since it looks a little "boxy in the photo, but it's much prettier in person. My daughter wore this skiing last weekend when it was only 15 degrees out. She was toasty warm and at one point even told me she was too hot! I love that the jacket extends below the hips to keep more of her warm when she's not wearing her snow pants. The inside is lined with fleece, which is makes the jacket very comfortable as well. Would highly recommend! January 7, 2015
No reflective strips on this coat like before and no inside pocket. I have bought this coat every year, but will look elsewhere now. I was disappointed when it came, there is absolutely no reflective lines or bars on this coat, as there has been in the past! It is dark in the mornings when kids get on the bus, it was a nice safety feature, I don't know why LE would get rid of this. It seems cheaper now, made with Velcro and less pockets for hats, etc. January 7, 2015
