Girls' Waterproof Expedition Parka
Great Coat BUT....
I do like the coat and it has so far kept my daughter warm. My daughter wears a sz 7/8 and that is the size I bought her; however, she is a thin size 7/8 and the fact that the waist on this coat can't be cinched in so irritating! Why they didn't put a drawstring in there is beyond me. I would love to know why. At $159, I would have removed the faux fur from the hood and put in a waist cincher.

Great coat! Fits perfectly
Still waiting for the winter months to come but just based on style and fit. It is perfect. Has just the right amount of pockets, sturdy zipper and great color.

Better than reviews indicate!
I'm surprised by so many negative reviews. Most are from people who previously bought the same coat. I'm a "new user," but I am pretty pleased. I look for a good quality, warm coat each year and compared this online to several options from other companies before buying. I didn't want brown anyway (maybe it's older kids? No WAY would my little one want brown!), and I like the ruffles for my five year old. They really aren't even very noticeable. I think the hood ruff is absolutely fine! It looks great and doesn't look "shorn off" to me. It's not super long and fluffy but that should help it continue to look good over time. The zipper is nice and easy to zip and I like the little thumb-hole fleece in the sleeves. I think the waterproof exterior is a big plus.
Coat DOES fit big. My daughter is a slim size five, and this coat (medium 5-6) is at LEAST a size too big. We are keeping it anyway b/c I am afriad a size 4 would be small (hate to buy her a size she doesn't technically wear anymore!) and this way she will almost surely wear the coat again next year. Personally I find it to be proportionately large--i.e. the sleeves are too long in about the same proportion that the torso is too big. I didn't think it was super wide. The outer fabric is nice quality. I WAS surprised that the insulation doesn't feel very thick, given the warmth-rating online, but we'll see how the down performs this winter. It may be better down than in last year's coat from another vendor. If I want to be picky, I can say that I do wish it had zippers on the side pockets and fleece lining all through the torso, but overall I am pleased. Arrived amazingly quickly for us, too. I'm giving it 4 stars for now b/c of the large sizing and b/c I haven't had a chance to see how warm it really will be, but I like it! My daughter looks super cute in it and likes it, too.

Bought one for my 6-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter. The photos don't do them justice. They are very sharp and warm. May be a little wide as others have suggested, but gives room for sweaters, a little growth, meatier kids, etc. I had never bought one before, so I can't compare it to last year's, but it's a high-quality coat with well-thought-out features and looks very good. Buy it on sale, and it's definitely worth it!

My children are ages 11, 9, and 7. The Land's End parkas have always been our go to winter coat. We've purchased many through the years and have always been extremely happy. Even after reading all of the existing reviews, the majority of which were negative, I purchased a new coat for my youngest (a girl) based on our favorable history. I received the coat today and will be sending it back tomorrow. Why Land's End felt it necessary to change a good thing is beyond me. Echoing the prior reviews, the quality of this coat is sub-standard, it is ill-fitting (long in the arms, huge in the waist which you can no longer cinch b/c it has been replaced with elastic), and the styling and color choices are less desirable (to me) - ruffle on both front shoulders and across the entire back??? and where did the brown go??? For the increase in price year over year, this coat should be getting better not worse! So, so disappointed - will be looking for a new go to coat.

Cut very short and wide!
I have purchased several LE parkas for my kids over the years. One of the things we really like about them is that they are long enough to cover their bottoms. This time around, I ordered the Expedition Parka and the Squall Parka for my kids (size 10/12 for both). When I received them, I was shocked at how wide and short they were cut. Literally, each of these coats is twice as big around as they need to be to fit my kids! The Expedition parka does not have a cinch cord around the waist, but even if it did, I would need to cinch about 20 inches to make it fit her middle. Additionally these LE parkas are not cut quite as long as the other LE parkas we have had, so they *just barely* cover the kids' bottoms. Other than the unusual fit, these coats had all the typical great LE features, and the quality seems as good as ever. If your child is on the stockier side, this coat would probably be great. Unfortunately, for us they will need to be returned due to the very short, very wide fit.

This is my first time purchasing this style of parka from Land's End. I was looking for a down filled coat that was longer than the jackets that I have purchased previously. This seemed to fit the bill.
The first thing I noticed is that it seems big and the sleeves are oddly long but the length of the coat itself is great. It falls below the hips, covering the bottom. Since it is a little too big there is plenty of room to grow or for layering My 7 year old daughter is a solid 4ft tall, weighs around 60lbs. She is longer in the torso and has a bit of a tummy. We ordered the 7/8. The 6x in Land's End jackets/coats are too small for her.
If you have a really slim child, this may not be the coat you want or you may want to size down.

Use to be a lot better...
Lands End has always been my "go to" coat for my three kids, but I feel the quality keeps declining and the price continues to go up. This coat use to be rated "warmest", but has been downgraded to "warmer". Chicago gets very cold and the previous versions kept my children very warm. There is no longer a cinched waist or bottom to keep drafts out and the fur hood is not nearly as cute or nice. I also think the ruffle cheapens the look of the coat. Disappointed, will need to start looking for other places to buy coats for my children.

Not what they used to be....
I ordered the boys parka 2 years ago and was blown away by the great quality!! I loved the fabric, the arm zippers and patch gave it a high end look, and the fur was so long and fabulous. We have had SO many comments on that first jacket. I ordered one last year for my other son and was shocked at the lower quality. The fabric was not as nice- a real cheap feel, the fur was cut and not luxurious, no arm patch or zipper. I was disappointed... and I payed MORE!!!
So I was thinking of ordering one for my daughter this year- again the price has gone up! After reading the reviews and remembering my disappointment I picked another company to order from.
PLEASE bring back the quality you had years ago.. It was perfect for our cold Canadian winters.
Sad to say I have to tell everyone who still comments on the jacket that if they order now it will not be the same as the one my older son has on:(
