Girls' Squall Parka
Girl's Squall Parka
This squall parka as well as all the others are very warm, extremely well made and very stylish. My husband and I have 8 grandchildren and because we love the quality of th squall coats, this year we have purchased a coat for each of them. We also have great nieces and nephews who I plan on getting a coat as well.

super jacket, but fits small through shoulders
On opening the box, my daughter and I loved the jacket. The color (red) was pretty and brighter than the photo. The length was great, my daughter loved the thumbholes, and the jacket was really well-made. But, sadly, we must return the jacket because of the sizing. My daughter is a tall slender 12-year-old. Based on the sizing chart, a L (14) would have fit her generously now, so I ordered the XL (16), figuring it would be a little big this year, but that she would be able to wear it all next year as well. Unfortunately, when she tried it on wearing just a t-shirt, and pulled her arms forward, it was too tight through the shoulders. She is quite slender (5'3" and about 96 lbs.) and it should have been large on her (I figured when i bought it that she would be able to wear a sweater, etc. under it), but it was uncomfortably tight. I suppose she'll have to try a women's jacket next, which will be much more expensive.

Way too thin, not warm at all
Fit and quality fine, but shouldn't really even be classified as a winter coat. So thin, with such poor insulation that definitely not appropriate for a "real" winter - I'm talking a regular southern Canadian winter. Disappointed, returned it.

This coat is excellent, thick, but not too thick, and warm. My daughter loves all the pockets and the built in hand warmers/finger-less gloves. I like the attached hood and reflective pieces on the front and back. Another great Lands' End item.

Perfect for cold weather
I love these Squall jackets. I bought this for the second time, after my daughter outgrew the first one bought two years ago. At the time, I also bought one for my husband. They fit well, and keep you very warm. The pleasant surprise this year is the thumb hole at the wrist edge. My daughter loves it!
Although we live in San Antonio, TX, occasionally the weather gets REALLY cold and the squalls are perfect.

I haven't put my girls in this most recent parka this season but the previous one I bought 3 years ago is still holding up and fits thanks to the grow along sleeves. I didn't think it would be warm enough when I first held it up as its VERY light and thin. However, my girls complain occasionally that they are too hot in -5C weather and happy to be plenty warm skiing in -10C conditions. I would like to see Lands End put zippers I their coats that zip up from the bottom, making it more comfortable to bend and sit with the jacket still done up. Particularly for the longer length parkas.

Good quality, minor issue
The coat is of good quality and the look is perfect for my girl. My only complaint, as with many coats, is that the arms are so tight. Once they put a sweater or sweat shirt on, it makes them too tight and uncomfortable.

A great winter jacket
I have a small build, and the Lands' End women's XS petite were swimming on me. I looked like a tent. So I decided to take a risk on the big kids jacket. I'm 5", I have been told by many people that I have the frame of a regular 10-12 yr old in addition of ladies curves. The size S 7/8 fit me almost perfectly. The waist & hips - perfect, it would have been ideal if the bust was just 2-4 cm bigger for a roomier feel (because I have a chest), and also if the arm length was just 1-2 cm longer. When my arms are relaxed to my side, the sleeves hit just above my wrist bone, but because the extending sleeves are 1.5 inches longer it sits perfectly and makes this jacket look normal. Under the arms feel a bit tight, the design could use a larger underarm hole with tapering sleeves instead. I've tested the jacket in our Aussie winter, and I was way too hot with only a base layer and a chiffon top underneath. I think this'll be great for my Norweigan christmas trip. This parka has been built just like the women's parka - so the quality is absolutely amazing!

bring back full fleece coverage !!!!
My daughter has worn the older version of this jacket for 2 years. She's finally on the verge to outgrow, so reluctantly, I ordered this newer version, even though I read reviews that the polar fleece on the inside is not full coverage. It is "barely" coverage of inner polar fleece. What is up with that? This is not a good winter jacket. Partial internal polar fleece is not sufficient. Please bring back the original jacke w/ full body and hood covered fleece. I'm starting to doubt the quality of LE jackets and am pondering paying a higher price for better quality. Come on!!!

Looks nice, armholes too snug
Gave it a 3 because if you can't wear it.... Overall the parka looks very nice. Especially like that it is waterproof. Looked like just what I was looking for. The issue is with the armholes being snug with just a t-shirt underneath. If a heavier shirt or sweater were worn under it the armholes would either be uncomfortable or not fit at all. The fabric is somewhat stiff which seems par for waterproof jackets and would rather have that than a softer jacket that moisture goes through. Can't rate warmth or how it will hold up because only tried it on once inside the house. The inner pocket is just a piece of mesh. No way to close it. Anything in it could fall out with running, jumping or rolling in the snow. Having said that, on the outside there are 2 chest height zippered pockets and 2 lower pockets with flaps closed with snaps which should be enough. Unfortunately will be returning it.
