Boys' Squall® 3-in-1 Waterproof Parka
Like other reviewers, we had a terrible problem with the sleeves on this garment. I am a loyal Lands End customer, and was disappointed when my 5-year-old had a hard time with the sleeves not staying together (the fleece and the shell would separate). My normally easy-going and independent kid was frustrated to the point of tears when trying to put on or take off the coat. I tried remedying the problem with a little clip to keep the sleeves together, but that didn't work. I would not recommend this product.
Thankfully, the awesome customer service at LE allowed me to return the coat for a full refund, and I purchased another LE coat to replace it. Kudos to the customer service department for their always-fantastic service.

Inside out every time :(
My son has been wearing this for about a month now, and we have decided it must go back. The fleece liner is not attached at the cuff of the sleeve, so every time it is take off the fleece liner sleeve gets pulled inside out. It is a bear to then right the sleeve and stuff it back in the shell. The next time it is put on it is also a pain because my son is always putting his hand through the thumb notch (or trying to). It is a frustrating coat and we just can't deal with it all winter. I will be getting the Boys' Expedition Waterproof Down Parka which we have for my older son and it is better.

3 in 1 system if flawed!
Bought last years model of this 3 in 1 parka for my 5 year old son at the end of the season on sale. Shell is awesome, liner is great...zipped together it is a DISASTER. My son can't get in or out of the jacket without tears of frustration and tons of grown-up help. The fleece liner gets bunched up at the wrist because of the thumb hole and the entire sleeve gets twisted and uncomfortable. Also impossible to put a mitten on over the excess fabric from the thumb hole.Returning it today to Sears/Lands End. Totally bummed because the jacket has some great qualities, very warm, very waterproof, room-to grow feature, large hood that accommodated a full winter hat underneath...too bad about the "liner flaw".

This is a great coat. Very good quality. The only down fall is the inside layer does NOT attach at the sleeve cuff. So every time my son takes it off the sleeves come inside out and separated. I hope they fix this in the future. Otherwise this is a real nice coat. I would order my kids future winter coats from here. Even though they are pretty costly.

The sleeves need to be re-designed
The coat is warm, but the sleeves are a pain in the neck. The zip out lining does not close all the way around the sleeves, so my son ends up accidentally sliding his arm in the slot between the sleeve & the liner. It is most annoying and frustrating. I would never buy this coat again. They need to re-design it to make it easier to put on. I plan to sew the sleeve liner in place & permanently close that stupid gap.

We bought this jacket last year for my son. It was fine because we only used it occasionally because we lived in a warmer climate... mostly he just wore the liner. Now we live in Missouri and he has needed the shell and liner together everyday for the last couple of weeks-- the sleeves are horrible. He doesn't like to wear the shell with the liner attached because the sleeves get tangled inside and he can't take it on or off himself.
I picked him up from school today and he told me he wore his jacket all day inside because he was afraid he wouldn't be able to put it back on by himself :(
I am really disappointed and wish I could return it.

I really like that the shell has a lining - makes it much more versatile. The polar fleece lining is once of the nicest I have seen. I would put it up against a Patagonia fleece any day! I have one of these for my 4 year old boy and my 7 year old girl. Great coats.

Nice, Quality Jacket
Ordered for 6 year old grandson in carrot color with matching snow bibs. Fit was a bit too big, but happy for that for layering and growth. Wish they would have had snow boots to match the carrot color.

Great parka - on our second one
I just re-ordered this parka in a larger size because the two-year-ago model we have is now too small for my son. He loved this parka, especially the fleece. The flexibility of the coat is great - while skiing he is able to adjust being too cold or too hot by altering the layers.
Other customers have complained about the sleeves of the fleece in the parka. My son loved being able to keep his wrists warm with the thumb-hold, so no cold air is leaking at the wrists between the gloves and the parka sleeve on the walk to / from the bus stop. I would say this arrangement is good for a 9-13+ year old (my son's age while this has been successful). Perhaps not for younger kids who would need help at school.
I love that Lands' End products like this have stood the test of time for our family, and we get multi-year use because of the generous sizing.

This is a terrific jacket and will be perfect for my son this winter. I hesitated to purchase it after reading other's reviews, but I am not disappointed that we took a chance and ordered it anyway. The fabric and construction are high quality. The polar fleece inner jacket is very plush and warm. The outer jacket looks even nicer in person and I was pleased to see that it has an insulated lining, adding to its overall winter warmth factor. There are no issues with the sleeves being too tight for my average-size 12 year old ( 5'1" / 85 lb.), even with a hoodie sweatshirt worn underneath. We ordered him a size 14-16, and even though it is a bit big on him now, it will work for this winter and next. (He is quickly outgrowing most size 10-12 items.) There is a drawstring waist on the inside for a closer fit to his body when the weather turns colder. The velcro attachments for the sleeves and collar are sufficient and I don't see them being a problem for kids of this age. We ordered this jacket in the dark blue color. It is a true navy blue with smoky blue polar fleece and accents. The only negative is the pretty blah styling of the outside jacket. It is almost totally navy with small patches of the smoky blue and my son would've liked something more sporty or interesting with the design. But we can live with it because overall it's a very nice jacket and it will serve us well.
