My ultra thin special needs son wears these every day to school. They are the only pants I can find that fit him and I do not need to add Elastic to the waist. The only down fall is I now need to get a size 18 and 20 for him which you do not offer. The slim in these sizes would be greatly appreciated and for special needs children who can not do buttons this works great.

Rated 1 out of 5 by CatherineP the width in "Slim" does not make any sense
I've been buying those pants for about 5 years, as my 10-year old son only wants to wear those for school. He's tall and slim (but not skinny), so I always buy the slim size. The 10-12 slim size I bought does not make sense at all: the width of the pants is ridiculously big. It's 10 inches large at the top of the thigh, while non slim pants from other brands are barely 9 inches large at the top of the thigh. My son looks like a clown with those pants, although they fit him in length and at the waist.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Rustynose Great for my son with autism!
Thanks to the positive reviews of other moms with special needs boys, I started buying these and have been very pleased with them. Now that his wardrobe is no longer restricted to sweatpants, he can dress up a little. I'm glad they come in denim, as well, since he had not been able to wear elastic-waist "jeans" since he was little. I only recently bought some of the denim ones, as other reviewers complained about the bleeding blue dye, but after reading one mom's handy homemaker advice about washing them in saltwater, I decided to give them a try and the saltwater did the trick! Thanks for the tip!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Amylou117 Belt not necessary
These are a nice heavy material. Too heavy for Summer but fine for rest of year. Nice quality. Everything great but I don't know why there is the belt on elastic waist pants.

Rated 4 out of 5 by JMom2 Table salt sets the dye, stops ruboff for indigo color
I, too, fought the dye rub-off from the indigo color until I remembered my home ec classes from 40 years ago and how to set the dye in a fabric--ordinary table salt! Tried it with these indigo climber pants and no more blue everywhere! I've done this technique successfully on 5 pairs now.
The technique: Wash the indigo colored pants separately at least one time (twice is better) to remove as much dye as possible. Then soak the pants for at least 1 hour (2-3 is better) in warm water in which you've dissolved 1-2 cups of ordinary table salt. Make sure salt is dissolved before adding pants. I use my washing machine, running the tub full of water and adding the salt, agitate a bit to make sure is dissolved, then add the pants and agitate a bit, stop the cycle and let soak. Every 30-40 minutes I agitate a few seconds to help disperse the salt water through the fabric. After 2-3 hours, drain the salt water out of the machine and then wash with detergent and dry in the dryer. If you aren't able to use the washing machine, you can use a sink or bathtub. Just make sure the pants are completely covered with the salt water and stir the pants around a bit every so often to help disperse the salt water into the fabric. After soaking, wash separately with detergent and dry. If you soak in the bathtub and can't wash in washer right away, let the pants air dry and then wash later. Should you still get the dye rub off, repeat the soaking process using more salt and adding another 30-60 minutes to your soaking time.
My son with special needs cannot do zippers or buttons and has worn the climbers pants for 16 years. They give a young adult a polished look and helps him fit in. A few years ago Lands End obviously changed suppliers rather than raise the price of the pants and keep the quality--the cut is a little tighter, they've dropped some sizes, and the jeans version of the climbers is no longer made of the sturdy denim it once was but a thinner fabric that is cheaply dyed after weaving rather than yarn-dyed thread woven into fabric. I still buy these pants and recommend them to others as they are the only pants out there that work for those of us with boys and men with special needs, and I hope by continuing to buy them and recommend them we keep the demand up so they don't go away.

I buy this pants for my grandson for his school uniform. They last forever after washing and washing. They do not shrink.

Rated 1 out of 5 by CBarks Very Disappointed
My son had one pair of these last year and he loved them. He would have worn them everyday if he could. They wore well, so I purchased 4 pairs for this school year. He started wearing them in October and by early February he had worn a hole through the knee of top layer of each pair. He wears each pair only once a week or so, and now I have 4 pairs of pants that have holes in the knees. I thought spending more money on a nicer pair of pants would at least see me through to the end of the school year. He is fairly easy on clothes, usually outgrows them before they wear out. Actually, these are the first holes he has ever gotten in a pair of pants

Rated 5 out of 5 by JDBSWIM Great For Boys with Special Needs
I have bought these pants for my son since he was very young. He has special needs and cannot use snaps or zippers, but can put on this pant independently. He looks great in the pants. There are not many nice looking options for people who have difficulty with buttons or snaps, except for sweats. Now my son requires a 20 slim, which used to be available, but is no longer offered. (slim is only offered up to size 16). The regular 20 is too big for him. I would like to see Landsend bring back some slim sizes up to 20. Though the demand for this size may be small, it is such a great pant for those with special needs that I would like to see even a limited quantity offered.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Fishwoman Has been the favorite for years
My son is 15 and these have been his favorite pants since he was big enough for the smallest size. They hold up wash after wash, they are comfortable, the colors are great, the built in belt makes the fit better, they look great, and the cost is okay. We love these pants!
