Cupless top
I love the look and fabric of this dress. However, the top bra area is practically cupless. It is designed for a AA at most. I usually wear a 4 or 6 in Land's End merchandise. After reading reviews about the small bust area I played it safe and ordered a 10. I could not zip it. I had my daughter who is a size 2/4 ( bra 34 B ) try it and it fit her so she kept it. I liked it so much I tried again, this time I ordered a 14. I can zip it with some room to spare but the "cup" part of the dress is almost flat. What is more, since the size is so much larger than my true size, the straps must be shortened. For reference I wear a 36 C (sometimes D) bra. That said, the color (emerald) is gorgeous. The fabric is lush. If it weren't for the design of the bra part, I would give this a 5 rating. If you are not a curvy girl this would be a lovely addition to your wardrobe.

Go UP a size for bust comfort
This dress is GORGEOUS. Plain and simple. Beautiful color (spruce green) and the velvet is lush and really nice quality. However, as other reviewers have noted, the bust area is small. Like, super small. I felt like the material was suctioned to my breasts. I think I could have probably "made it work" except that it was also a little too low cut for me. Perhaps I am getting too old, but that area of my chest is not super flattering (in my opinion) if I am not wearing a bra. So, with deep regret (I mean, this is one beautiful dress), I had to return it. I got the size 8 and I am a 36C; hoping a 10 will fit better, but am worried about the waist being too big now. We shall see...

Beautiful fabric & drape, but SMALL in the BUST
This dress feels beautiful on, and it makes the wonderful swish sound of a well-tailored lined dress. The spruce color is lush, as is the REAL velvet fabric. It does run SMALL. I read the reviews noting the dress was small, but I buy from Lands End often, so others' ideas of small don't generally mesh with mine, and I don't usually trust the size charts, either. In Lands End I buy an XS, I wear a 2p pant, and in many dresses/jackets I wear a 2p, sometimes a 4p.
I bought the size 4 in this dress, assuming that would be enough of a size up. The dress skirt fit lovely, it was at about my knees (I'm 5'1"), but the bodice was MUCH too tight (I'm a 34D). I love it, though, so I'm hoping to exchange it for a 6 to see whether that fits.

Too tight in bust
I really liked the look of this dress coming out of the box. The fabric is a soft, thick, plush velvet. However, the top of the dress just didn't work for me. I bought my usual size and it was too tight in the chest and then the empire waist seemed to hit me too high, causing the dress to really tent out. I returned it to the store where I tried on one size larger and it fit better in the bust, but I had the same issue with the empire waist.

better for the young than the young-at-heart
I knew this dress was a bit of a long-shot for me, but the sale price inspired me to take a chance. Sadly, it looks far better on the model than it does on me. Anyone over age 40 would be advised to only consider this dress if they have very fit-looking arms. I'd sort of thought a sheer sweater or wrap might solve that issue, but it fits smaller than my usual size 10, so although it looks to be well-made (nice that they added lingerie loops), it'll be going back.

Great color, but overall not that impressed.
I got this dress in the fresh spruce and it is a gorgeous color. I am usually either a 0 or a 2, and based on the measurements I chose to order a 0. It fits fine except in the bust, which is a problem I almost never have. It is way tighter there than I would have ever expected. Also, the description says it has side seam pockets, and it does not. I was considering returning it, but I will probably keep it because it shouldn't be too hard to expand the bust area, and I'm not too upset about the lack of pockets. I wouldn't mind a dress like this normally, but I've come to expect more from Canvas, so I was disappointed.
