Like the idea, but . . . I was looking forward to this suit because I spend time in the pool with my toddler, and he's quite grabby. Unfortunately, I will be returning it because it cuts in under the arms and a little at the shoulder / neck area. Also, it's a little higher cut than I anticipated. I miss LE's labeling system of height 1, height 2, etc. I like the gathering at the neckline because it breaks it up for the eye. Also, it is slenderizing. You definitely feel sucked in, but not too much. The material feels good, it is snug, and the colors pop (I bought navy). July 18, 2012
Gathering on right shoulder ruined the suit's look I was sooo looking forward to this suit working out. I love the high straight-across neckline look; I love the ombre fabric it is made out of & the color choices were all great. Then I tried it on and said "Huh? Why is the right strap pulling like that? Did the manufacturer make a mistake?" So I looked at all the others in the store - I am so glad I didn't order it online! - and realized that ALL of the suits were "gathered" or "ruched" or whatever they are calling it now not only up the right side but also on the right shoulder where attached to the strap part of the suit. As someone who knows how to sew I know why and where gathers help the line of a piece of clothing, and there is absolutely no reason that this suit should have any gathers, let alone some at the shoulder, which just pulled the whole suit up at an odd, unflattering angle. The gathering along the right seam did nothing to add to the suit's look or fit (they should have put gathering along both sides of the suit if they wanted to put some easement into the fit) and the rest of the suit fit okay. But that right shoulder looked like a mistake, not a planned design. Hopefully Lands End will bring back this suit next year WITHOUT the gathers. (Of course, by then the ombre look will probably be out of fashion). This is not the first time I have been disappointed with Lands End merchandise in the last couple of seasons. A growing percentage of their products do not match their relatively high prices and I cannot justify spending that much on clothing that is all made in China when I can find other, less expensive clothing with a better fit (also made in China unfortunately) elsewhere. It is sad, as my husband and I have been fans of Lands' End since they began. One positive note: I DID find a beautiful suit there: the Carmela model, that fit perfectly and is very flattering.
