I ordered a size smaller than normal (1X) and they were still big. I'd recommend getting two sizes less than normal. I'm apple shaped, so this is from someone who usually has to order a size that will fit my waist and might be a little big in the hips - the waist in these is plenty generous and if you're pear shaped you might even need several sizes smaller.

Better than expected!
I bought these to wear under jeans when I'm outside for Playground Duty at school. When I first put them on they glided on my legs, were long enough, not too tight around my calves and the wide waist-band rested comfortably on my lower waist. I wanted to wear them all day. I bought another pair for my sister in North Dakota!!

Great thermals!
I have both the pants and turtle neck and both are quite comfortable. I love them (and may order another pair) but they are thicker and slightly bulkier at the waist than the silk underwear. So if you are looking for a nice smooth fit underneath tight jeans, I would recommend the silk. These are perfect for under sweats for when my house is cold, and right now I'm using them as PJ's. They are made of good Quality material so I suspect they will last a while!!

Great Fabric, Rise Too Long
The fabric is great, silky and thin. For such a thin layer they really added warmth. My only complaint is the rise is way too long (plus size 2x). I have to fold over the waist band 2 times for a decent fit.

Way too big in the waist
These fit everywhere except in the waist and they were ridiculously too big there. NOT at all like the other ones I purchased with Lands End. I noticed on the tag they were made in a different country, could be the reason. I'm not sure I will buy heat pants from them ever again.

Size Large is LARGE
I ordered a Black Large and an Amethyst Medium. Suprisingly, the leg length - fine for my 32" inseam- and size are identical in both sizes. They're attractive with a nice sheen and such non-bulky construction that they've looked good under winter skirtsand worn with dress booties.
The elastic waistband is - as others have said - very comfortable but it's just huge in the size Large. I've had to pin it to my jeans to keep my pants up. Meanwhile the Medium waistband is perfect, which in my case means that they fit like a comfy size Large.
The construction is very good (I've yet to wash them to know if the elastic will twist) but a small caution -
on me, tall with a small butt, the rear seat is cut much smaller than the tummy area. This means the back slides down while the front needs hitched up. If you have a average or generous rear, you may find the fit to be iffy 'back there'.
I didn't wash either pair of these heat pants before wearing the Black Large or Amethyst Medium. Watch out, my white panties were black when I removed my pants after their first wearing! It took a lot of detergent and hot water to get the great quantity of excess dye out of them. I don't know about the purple ones yet, but ....
We've had some low windchill days and they make a positive difference under my loose jeans. This is a good thing!

Soft, comfy, and flattering at the waistband
I bought this in the crew and bottoms. I ordered a set for myself and a set for my 16 year old daughter. They are so soft and comfy and warm! I have pretty much been in them 24/7 since I got them before Christmas. They seem to wash well too. The bottoms have a nice wide waistband that is both comfortable and flattering -- more comfy than my REI pair. They do run a bit on the generous side. I usually wear size 4/small, and my daughter usually wears an XS. I bought both sets in XS. Hers was too big for her, which was fine -- extra set for me!

Really nice long underwear!
After reading other reviews, I decided to order a size smaller as others have suggested. I'm 5'4" and weigh 135 pounds. I ordered a small, and there is still room around the waist. They are also a little long. I will be wearing them under jeans, so they should be o.k.. The material is very nice. Overall I'm happy with my purchase.
