warmest coats (yes, coats) ever!!
I own 4 Squall coats - 2 short, 2 long, different colors. I have 1 older version which is just as warm, but doesn't have the banding at the wrists like the newer version. Boston winters can be brutally cold, especially with the winds blowing in from the ocean. I can absolutely rely on the warmth of the Squall even with one sweater & a T-neck. I wear a petite XL (5'1") and the overall fit, length & arm length are perfect. I'm a bit top-heavy so I always have a problem with coats, but the Squall zips up and doesn't pull.
I do wish LE would remove the velcro & replace the flap with snaps, and lower the slit pockets from the breast position - can be uncomfortable. The hood is a bit large even on the petite sizes. Oh, and maybe an slight A-line cut with an inner pull giving the Squall a more feminine style.
But even with my suggestions, the Squall is a great winter coat for very cold climates. One more example - we just had a blizzard in New England and lost power & heat for up to 6 days. I wore my Squall in the house for the 4 days I had no power or heat - it kept me warm while the temperature in my house dropped to 31 degrees. I even slept in one on the last night of no heat - I had to remove 2 of the covers during the night.
It's a great coat - plain & simple.

Stylish, Waterproof, Warm!
I have a Down Chalet Coat, but I wanted a longer, warm, weatherproof coat that had a more stylish and professional look. I got this coat in Black (at 30% off the Sale Price!), and I am extremely pleased with it. The style and color is very non-fussy, and slimming, due to the long vertical storm flap in front, and the slimmer coat style. The coat has an internal drawstring adjustment at the waist, but I didn't need to use it. I'm 5', so I got the Petite Small: I can easily fit a sweater or heavier shirt underneath, and the arm and hem length are perfect. There are interior zip and velcro closure pockets, which I like. I wore this in a freezing cold, driving rain, and was perfectly dry and warm! In Black, it's much more chic and city-wise than down (which makes me overheat if I'm walking at a fast clip). No problems with the shoulder issue, but I'm petite, so this may be why. A fantastic coat.

Ditto
I agree with everything the other reviewer said about tight shoulders and I also own other Land' s End coats.....including a stadium squall coat....that I still wear that fit great. My black stadium squall coat that is a few years old fits and looks good...I ordered this one because I wanted one in red, I am disappointed in the tight shoulders.

Shoulders tight. Beautiful coat.
This jacket is absolutely lovely. Very nice quality and features. Unfortunately, the shoulders on the medium I received feel somewhat tight, even when wearing a thin cotton t-shirt underneath. The sleeves have enough room, but the tops of the shoulders do not allow me to move my arms much. I'll have to check the fit again and make a decision whether to keep it or return it.
I am 5'4" and 120 lbs. and usually wear a size 6-8/small. After reading reviews for the squall parka, I sized up and bought a medium (10-12) stadium squall so I could wear it over a sweater/sweatshirt. I have purchased many Lands End products over several years, and I am still wearing them all (including winter jackets that are size small or even girls XL, which still fit comfortably over a fleece or sweater). Not sure why the new winter coats are shrinking in the shoulders and sleeves (according to several reviews). I am not sure whether moving up to a large squall would even help with more shoulder room. It is disappointing because this coat looks beautiful and feels very warm and cozy. It would be perfect for winter if the shoulders had adequate room.

Great Coat for walking the dog
Just got our first puppy this fall and needed something to put on quickly when she's ready for her "early" morning walks. I can put this on over my pj's and nobody is the wiser. I just put on my LandsEnd slip on shoes, scarf and a baseball cap and join the other early morning walkers in our neighborhood.
