Description

Shades of retro.

  • Crisp-yet-soft cotton madras
  • Extended shoulders make it not quite sleeveless
  • Pretty piping at the yoke
  • Handy patch pockets
  • Self-fabric belt is included
  • Above-knee length
  • Shoulder to hem length: Regular, 37″; Petite, 35 1/2"

It’s a classic — but one with a slight retro feel. (See the piping at the yoke and the patch pockets? That’s what we’re talking about.) Slub yarns give the dress a hint of texture. Definitely crosses the line from feminine to fun. 100% cotton. Machine wash. Imported.

What an odd dress! I was hopeful that this would be the perfect lightweight dress for summer, but am disappointed. The good: the yoke detail is very nice, the fabric has a great retro vibe and is a nice weight. The bad: the fit is bizarre, especially the top (too large, blocky, and baggy under the arms), the length is too short for my long legged 5'9" self (good news: there was enough fabric to drop the hem), and the pockets exaggerate the hips in an unflattering way. I picked this up on sale and feel that it is salvageable with some alterations. However, I have sympathy for anyone who paid full price for this dress. April 13, 2013
Grandma bag This looks so cute in the photo, but I should have thought about why they don't have it on a model... It fits strangely and horribly. I think I'm a normal kind of shape - 41-34-43 and 5'11" and size 14 - I was expecting it to be short, but I wasn't expecting the huge baggy chest. There's no way to fix it and no way I could get it to lay normally. I love the neckline and overall shape of the dress (in the photo) and the pockets, but who did Land's End think this would fit? If you are short and very busty I think this would be ok, but otherwise don't bother! Oh, and my personal opinion of the fabric ~in person~ was that it reminded me of clothing I used to see my grandma wear. This dress just looks way better in the photo. April 10, 2013
Nice dress, lousy pockets I love the look of this dress... until the pockets make my hips expand to twice their natural size. I'm getting my seam ripper and they're coming off! Otherwise, it's quite a nice fit and pretty fabric. March 12, 2013
Cute dress, pockets are ugly This dress is a great lightweight material for a hot summer's day. Lovely work at the neck and shoulders, nice madras print - but the pockets make this look like something a maid in the 1950s would wear. Yuck! I considered unstitching the pockets, but thanks to Lands' End's superior quality, these pockets are firmly sewn in place and they would be very hard to remove without damaging the dress. Very unflattering on my pear shaped body. I had high hopes for this dress based on other reviews, but this is going back. November 30, 2012
Great Buy! I love this dress. The shape and print is very flattering to ladies with hourglass figures and it looks adorable with a pair of heeled oxfords. November 26, 2012
So cute! I am glad I waited for the right size for this dress. It is always a bit risky choosing the right size with Lands End products. I'm 5'5, 34C, 140 pounds. I chose a 4 petite because I have a short waist and I don't mind when dresses are shorter. It fits perfect and it's so comfortable! It's really light wait and it isn't tight or loose anywhere. I would never normally order a petite at any other store. But, I love it. I definitely recommend calling the lovely ladies at the office and ask for exact measurements of the items you are interested in because the size chart isn't always accurate. Once I bought a size 2 because the item ran so big. October 26, 2012
Always gets compliments I love the comfort of this dress. I've used the self belt but it would be even better with a stretch belt. It is not clingy or too tight in the hips yet it has an hourglass shape. The detailing at the neckline (piping) is nicely done and makes it look far more expensive than it is. I am always surprised by how many compliments I get when I wear it. Because it is cotton and not stretchythe skirt does tend to ride up a little when you sit down. It's not a big problem, just requires a little modesty check every once in a while. October 16, 2012
Darling; so fun! I'm a mom of three little kids. I feel like I never have time to wear anything cute and fresh, but just grab the same old stuff for work and home. This dress is fun. The top is a bit blousy, so for a best fit have a good size bust. I'm 5'6 and short-waisted with long legs. That makes the hemline a little short for me--in an edgy kind of way--but the waistline is perfect. The waist in front has some kind of hidden elastic. I frankly can't believe a non-knit dress could be this comfortable. September 25, 2012
My new favorite dress! I bought this dress thinking, well, it's not the most flattering shape, but I love madras and I could use a new summer dress. Now I can't stop wearing it! It's so versatile and fun...great for running errands, walking the dog, shopping.... It's perfect for late spring/summer/early fall. I've gotten compliments from a few people as well. It fits very big... I normally wear a size 6 and I ordered a size 4 (based on other reviews). The size 4 is still a bit big in the chest (I'm a 36B bra size, 125 lbs/5'8" if that helps). I'm not crazy about the elasticized waist, but you can hide it under the fabric belt/sash that's included. Lands end -- more madras cotton sundresses next summer, please! September 21, 2012
Perfect Transitional Dress into Fall! I am *so* glad I bought this dress after eyeing it all summer (waiting for it to go on sale, because I am cheap). If I'd know how great it was, I would have gladly paid full price. The Lands End quality is there - since the shoulders are a little wide, the dress has lingerie straps to keep your bra in place! Not many garments have nice touches like that these days. I find that LE clothing's fit is more toward the "mature" - ie, lower hems, higher rises, more ease. So I order my usual size (a 12-14) but in a petite, which allows a more custom fit with a higher hem. I'm pretty busty and the chest fit me perfectly. I combined this dress with a pair of reddish orange suede flats (Lands End, of course) and a spicy clove colored cardigan. Wear a layer tee under in with tights in the late fall and into winter and it's still a winner! Highly recommend this dress, especially on sale! August 29, 2012
