Description

A dress with flare.

  • Crisp-yet-soft cotton lawn
  • Pretty surplice bodice
  • Set-in empire waist has a hint of elastic in back
  • Graceful flared skirt
  • Timeless knee length
  • Approximate lengths (from shoulder to hem): Regular, 38 1/2"; Petite, 36"; Plus, 42"

So pretty – and so comfortable! There's just something about an empire waist that flatters every figure. And the flare skirt creates a soft silhouette that isn't too "poofy." The fabric is feathery-light. But don't worry that it's too sheer – we added a full lining, so you needn't worry about hunting for a slip. Invisible side zipper. 100% cotton. Machine wash. Imported.

It is so nice to have a dress so just plain pretty... I now have two of these dresses, in different patterns. I'm considering a third. The fabric is lovely, draping well and with lovely colour in the patterns. The v-shaping in front and back is so summery and flattering, feminine without being too revealing. The cut of the armholes is very nice, giving a long look to the arms and there is no binding. I have not worn a "short" skirt in probably 30 years, which tells you I am not a young woman. Neither am I a particularly small woman. The length of the skirt on me - not the height of a typical model - falls to just the bottom of the knee and is very flattering. It does not look like I have on my daughter's (or granddaughter's, heaven forbid) dress, even though the look is generally youthful. This dress is comfortable, flattering and I feel pretty in it...I'm looking forward to wearing each of these dresses often this summer, dressed up or down with different shoes and cardigans when needed. It is going to be a very pretty summer.... April 28, 2012
Very pretty dress The fit is perfect and empire waist flattering. The fabric is cool and breezy, very comfortable on a hot day. I chose the poppy pattern and was glad of the lining which provides good coverage. There are also tiny snaps to keep your bra straps in place - a very clever and useful feature. March 31, 2012
Outstanding! I may have a lot of dresses, but this one is STAND OUT! I got it in the mail today and put it on right away. Here are just a few things I like about it. 1. Excellent bust! I was really nervous about the cross-over bust and how it would gap, but it is not the case. Because of the gathering in the bust, it makes the dress look more evenly proportioned on me since I have a smaller bust compared to my hips. 2. Elastic gathering in back. This makes the dress so comfortable to wear. Even though there is a hidden zipper on the side, the elastic pulls the waist in and creates and lovely silhouette. I love the how the higher waist leaves space around my tummy and hip. Finally, 3. The style and fabric. Exactly the excellent quality I expect from LE. The style is perfect for layering. I actually wore it today with a t-shirt and cardigan on top. It was too cute! February 23, 2012
Pretty Dress with some issues First of all, you can't tell from the website that the dress is also available in solids. I know the price point is different but there should be an obvious link to all the options! I got the dress in navy and I wish it were perfect, as it is very pretty and flattering, with so much potential to be worn many ways, but alas it is quite flawed in ways not necessarily obvious at first glance. As mentioned, the cotton is very thin and fine. I am worried I will snag it on something and would prefer something stiffer. This honestly feels like "flea market" weight, low quality fabric. It is also a complete lint and hair magnet, so when I pair the dress with cute knit toppers I end up with fuzz all over it. There is as others have noted a weird bubble/bulge on the back below the rib cage gathered area. Finally, and I think this is because of the light weight of the fabric, it rides up a lot in front when I walk. Not sure why a loose-fitting dress would do that, it just seems to float up and get stuck there. June 14, 2013
Fun, Flirty, and Comfortable... with minor alterations I bought the solid navy version of this dress at 40% off at my local Sears (online didn't seem to have size 2 available). It's a very pretty, comfortable dress and I'm looking forward to wearing it to a nice restaurant. The dress gaped a bit at the chest (I wear a 32A bra), so I was able to take apart the straps to shorten them a bit to accommodate that. I thought it strange that the bra strap holders on the underside of the straps were facing the wrong way (they were made to snap in place away from you, which is hard to see when you're dressing yourself), so I flipped the direction of the holders when I altered the straps. I really do like how this dress looks, and think it was a good deal for the price I paid. If it hadn't been on sale, however, I would have returned it and not bothered to alter it. June 9, 2013
Lovely summer dress, runs big up top Bought this in a 4P, and thought I'd be fine (I'm 120#, 5'5.5); would go for 2P next timet. It's too roomy on top, though the folds-detailing somewhat hides the lack. I'm wearing it anyway because it's just the sort of summer dress I was looking for. Light, lined, pretty, affordable - I can wear it to church or dinner, or just around. I bought the peach floral print and if not for the fit, would be over the moon. June 9, 2013
pretty dress I ordered this cotton dress in navy and the solid modal dress, and I kept this one. While the cotton is a lighter weight and the modal is a heavier fabric, I feel that the cotton option can be dressed up or down. The dress in front is exactly like the picture. I got my usual size SX and while the fit is good in the front, the elastic gathering in back is too high up so that below it, the fabric is excessive, like you are wearing a tent (some darts would have been great). But since I will most likely be paring the dress with a cardigan, it will not be as noticeable. May 30, 2013
way too low in front! I would not have wanted to use a safety pin but would have felt compelled to hold the front together somehow returned it. I had high hopes for it! May 28, 2013
Drapes nicely; would have appreciated more choice of sizes I returned my first purchase of this dress. Being a small-busted size 10, I guessed (wrongly) that a petite size medium (10-12) might fit better than the regular medium. I was wrong - the whole dress was much too large (although the length was great). I exchanged it for a regular small, although I am by no means a size 6! The major difference between petite and regular appears to be length. Some manufacturers cut their petites to be smaller in shoulder and bust dimensions as well, which would have been a help. But the dress is comfortable, and hangs nicely. May 28, 2013
Very odd fit and flimsy material One reviewer had said that this dress had a weird pooch or bump on the back and she was spot on. When I tried it on, there was this puffy material on the back, just above the waist. Needless to say, very unflattering. I also found the material be thin and not the quality I saw online. I returned it. Doubt I'll buy a dress on here again. It's too hard to see the quality of the material. Guess it's back to the shopping in person for me! May 28, 2013
