These shorts are the perfect length.
These shorts are the perfect color to go with lots of summer tees and shirts. The fabric is nice quality and a nice length for mature women. They are very comfortable.

Disappointed
They are large, the material is very light weight and, as others have said, the pockets are not deep at all so that I would worry about having anything valuable in the pocket.

Pitite is NOT Petite
I purchased these because they were supposed to be made for petite height. I do believe that petite is now 5 foot 5 and under....not 5 foot 3 and under as in the past. The rise was too long causing a 'poofing' from the crotch to the waist and resulting in saggy rear end fittng. Lands End is not the only store with problems with petite sizing. I am sorry that Land's End has lost the formula...........I remember when I could order shorts with no problem and also jeans hemmed to the length I desired. I can still purchase some tops...but some are too long for my 5'2" height..

like the shorts
i have 2 pair of these shorts, like the fit, my only complaint is, that the side pockets are not deep enough, any thing put in these pockets would fall out as you were walking.

nice material and workmanship, but....
I am baffled by the sizing issue. I have a pair of these purchased a few years ago, size 16. They are too large overall, but I kept them. This time I spoke with a customer service rep and she gave me the measurements on a size 14P. and I tried them. They were way small and the adjustment elastic would only work to make the waist smaller and would not expand. This detail was also different styling than my previous pair that adjusted automatically without there being a button on the elastic. However, I am going to try them again in a 16P and see what happens. They are very well made and I'll give it another shot.

Love the FIT 3
With so many low-waist designs, I was relieved that Lands End added back a more traditional waist design.
I normally wear a size 8, this was pretty boxy feeling (I prefer a "fitted" feel) so I enchanged it for an 6 and it fits really well. I am a fit, "50 something" and wanted shorts that were "age appropriate". I also ordered the FIT 2 item#42792-4AJ8. I loved these shorts even more, in every way except the deal-breaker way: sat too low on my hips. And while both shorts advertise a 7" inseam (which is correct, I measured), you'll notice in the pictures that this second short looks shorter...and it is, as pictured. I love the fit and finish of the 2nd short, nicely tailored feel, but the length and drop waist made it a no-go for me.
Back to this short, I wish that Lands End would offer more Fit 3 shorts and PLEASE offer some color selections. Black would be a nice addition, as would red or a couple of greens. And white is already sold out!
