This coat fits well and the black color goes with anything This is the warmest item that I have ever owned. It is so comforting that I don't want to take it off. i just wish it was available in a sophisticated pattern (e.g. houndstooth check) because the black goes with anything but also shows every mark. Cheaped Out On the Zipper I would have given it 5 stars, but -- This coat was great when I tried it on, and I could tell that it would be as warm as I needed it to be here in upstate NY. Not only that, it fit beautifully, even with an extra layer. And no, it didn't "make me look fat." The line was slimming. The one big problem with this coat is that the darned zipper would NOT work -- it zipped once, after much effort & a number of tries, and then refused to catch and slide every other time. I should have known that there might be an issue when I saw the little tag with the notice about the zipper. I assumed that it was just for the zip-impaired, not a veteran of many down coats. But this is the problem: the zipper was about half the size it needs to be with a hefty coat like this. It's smaller than the one in the Chalet coat I bought a couple of years ago. And it's cheap. I paid more for this coat than for any other down coat I've bought (I usually buy on sale), and was so bitterly disappointed that I could NOT make the zipper work. The worst thing is that even though I returned it at Sears and bought a different model -- on sale, since they had nothing even close to this -- now the zipper on THAT coat is stuck. Land's End, go back to the quality work you once offered! March 10, 2013
Delightfully Warm! :) I love, love, love this coat! I've had it through most of a Michigan winter now, and it's the first time I've felt warm in the winter for a long time! I love that it's down, and therefore not too heavy for the length, and because of the smooth exterior I don't feel like a giant puffball! The zipper and snaps work well, and the drawstring at the waist makes for a slightly more feminine look. If I could improve a few things about it (the reason I gave it a 4), I would make it slightly more shaped at the waist - even with the drawstring it still looks a bit blocky there. Also, the neck is rather tight - I can't actually zip the zipper all the way up when it's cold (though I do have a really big head... ;) And it would be nice if the sleeves had a bit longer and tighter of a fleece cuff - what's there doesn't completely keep your wrists warm, as it lets the cold air in. Also, the pockets are a little funny - once you unzip the outer zip, there's a slit that allows you to access your pants pockets without taking the coat off (which is a great feature!) but there is only a snap holding the slit closed. It would be nice if there was a zipper for that inner slit as well, so you could choose whether to have it open or closed. Several times I've tried to put something in my pocket only to accidentally stick it through the slit and have it fall on the ground. Not a big deal, and I would DEFINITELY still buy this coat again, but if Land's End reads their product reviews for future improvements, those would be my suggestions. :) March 2, 2013
Warm coat to commute and walk your dog This coat is good if you do not need to go to a fashion runway or have a date. In my opinion the look is more appropriate for a 50 and above years old person. The internal waist elastic band is adjustable (it's good as it keeps your body warm) but this will not change the look of your coat. Landsend pictures perfectly describe how the coat shape is. If you look for a young and dynamic model this is not the right coat. You've better order the Down Chalet long coat I would say based on the pictures. I ordered the toast color ((LE picture does not deviate from the reality) perhaps in black it would have looked more trendy) and a size S REGULAR Bust: 91 cm / Waist: 77 cm / Hips: 101 cm / Height: 168 cm. There's enough room for someone who's bigger (let's add 5 cm to each of the above // too big for someone slimmer) I wear it below my knees (which is longer than the picture model). I would like to recommend Landsend to draw a new line of this coat for young people but with the same features. The concept of the coat is great. At the end I finally decided not to return the item as I wanted to avoid all the administrative matters but found in my cupboard colorful modern knitted scarves which will definitely add a trendy touch to my coat! Very warm coat This coat is a bit heavy which is exactly what I wanted. Tired of freezing in my lighter down coats. I just want to point out two things: the tag on the coat states 20% feathers. I did not see that mentioned in the description. I'm not sure if that will make a difference or what size feathers were used. I had one coat with feathers and the quills soon poked at me whenever I wore it. Re: sizing. This may be helpful: I'm 5'3" and unfortunately 155 lbs. I tend to be "hippy" and chest size is 38C. I picked a large and the hip area is perfect. The top half is a bit bigger than I would like. It's ok for me because I can easily put a heavy sweater underneath and I want warmth over fashion for this particular coat. I bought the reg large rather than petite because I wanted it to be long. It falls halfway between my knees and ankles which I wanted. Everyone else described the rest of it. Special thanks to the Canadian reviewers commenting on warmth. That helped. Also it seems to be well made and I'm content. (I subtracted one boat due to not knowing in advance about the feather content but it may not make a difference). Hope this information is useful. Love this coat for the rain and cold, and working my dogs! I get lots of compliments on this coat and love it for the early morning cold, and for rare rainy weather here in San Diego county. We live on a mountain side so we have clouds/fog, and this coat arrived in time for a REALLY chilly winter. I couldn't have been happier! I bought it in the CLOVER LEAF, size Large. I was worried it might be too small (I'm a 16/18) but found it wonderful over layered shirts/flannel). The snap and zip options allow for great movement while I'm working my two Border Collies, and the fleece-lined pockets and collar are comfy. I also love how the hood really FITS - doesn't blow off my head in the wind. February 19, 2013
Woohoo! I am not cold! 7 years ago I bought this coat for my daughter who was headed to university in the snow belt in New York state. She loves it, it still looks great and she still uses it where she has settled on the East Coast. We live in mild Vancouver so I didn't think I needed one of these for myself. And each winter since then I have kicked myself as the damp and cold of January kicks in and my daughter reminds me of how warm she is! So this year I bought my own and I am thrilled! I have just returned from a stormy Ottawa Canada where it was minus 25 and windy - and I chuckled because I was toasty warm for the five block walk to my meetings there! It is professional looking but not formal and remarkably light weight and when I wear it I do not look like a snowman. The fit is perfect and I particularly like the fleece collar and pockets. It is really cozy! Terrific product! February 10, 2013
The greatest! I purchased this coat on 12/01/2012. I am always cold and I wanted a coat really warm. Someone wrote that she lived in Canada and it kept her warm. That sold me! The color is exactly what I expected (dark wine). The size is an exact fit with a bit of room for a heavy sweater.( I am tall and thin; ordered a small). The length is perfect- I can still move in it but have coverage. And am I warm; I just dug out from the Blizzard of 2013 with it ! The hood is very warm also and stayed in place. And the best thing- it was on sale!!! February 10, 2013
This is realy a commuter's coat This coat is great for anyone who commutes in winter: really warm, partially waterproof, lots of pockets, and it shelters from strong winds. I got it in mid December 2012 and couldn't wait for cold weather so I could wear it. The zipper is a bit of a problem; I figured out that it is much easier to zip it from the sitting position. Possibly, the angle of zipping is different than from standing position. My coat is in tea leaf colour (looks more like olive green), wonderful alternative to the usual black, navy or dark browns that most winter coats are. Got many compliments on the colour already. I misjudged my size, should've gotten in petite instead of regular size, sleeves are a bit too long. January 31, 2013
Great coat, great price! I purchased this particular coat because I needed something long to wear to work...just in case I wanted to wear a skirt or dress during Ohio's winters. Now, let me say that I hate being cold; absolutely hate it. I will avoid doing anything outside in the winter if I can possibly help it. I have several other LE coats (short ones, which are terrific) and saw that this one was on sale after Christmas. I usually wear a petite small since I am 5' 2", but purchased the regular small for the extra length. Yes, it does seem to run a little big, but this will accommodate layers, so it is fine with me. If you are looking for warmth and comfort, look no further! I feel like I'm wearing a comfy quilt when I wear this thing, but it isn't bulky. This coat is nice and toasty. I've not yet worn it in the rain, so I can't attest to how water-proof it might be. I ordered the light tan, since it was one of the colors on sale. The color is very light-as if you put too much cream in your coffee. It is a great coat and I highly recommend it! January 27, 2013
