Cute but fit off
Given everyone else's reviews, I ordered a size down from my normal size. The shorts were WAY too small. Not sure what's going on here, but based on the shorts I received, I would need to go up a size over my normal to get a good fit. Also do not like that the laces need to be pulled out to get the shorts on. Besides all that--they are cute.

The length is great - that's the main reason I bought them.
I mainly ordered these for the length and they are perfect. But the tie in the front is useless and gets in the way when putting them on and off. It also snags on the Velcro. I removed it altogether. Also, the grommets for the tie were very rough/sharp. Edges of metal were exposed. My husband was able to file them down. I am keeping them because I was able to make these changes myself (but probably something I shouldn't have to do) and it's so hard to find longer shorts for water sports.

EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!
Took a couple tries to get the size...but these are GREAT!!! since most swim gear runs small I started by ordering black (of course) in an 18 and 18W...sent back since the waist was big - and went with the 16. Length is great so I don't worry about NO inner panty....don't want you to put one in, either. they look terrific and there is no extra 'bulk'...ordered a second one in the blue!!!

Sizing wrong, but shorts are nice.
I ordered these right before a beach trip. I had recently purchased size 10 LE pants, so ordered size 10 shorts. They are quite large - almost fall off! And although I reordered an 8, it didn't get here in time. LE shipping is slow. So, the shorts are nice enough, and provide great coverage from the sun, but now I can't return the 10's because I had to go ahead and use them on my trip. Reliable sizing is important for mail order!

Poor quality and too big
My size is 0 regular. from the reviews i knew this runs big so i got the smallest petite size. i don't think this should be listed under women swimwear. it looks like men's swim shorts. It is HUGE!!!! looks so ugly on the body. i considered taking it to a tailer and removing 2 inches from each side. but its not worth it so i'm definitely returning. The waist wasn't that bad bas when you go down that's the problem. the quality is reaaaaally poor you can see through. the worst board shorts ever.

Strings just for looks
I like these shorts but the strings are only for show and don't make any adjustments for the waist. As these shorts run a little big, being able to adjust the waist would've been helpful.

Comfortable, durable, modest; exactly what I was looking for!
Currently, I am 5'8", 140 lbs, 14 and 1/2 years-old. I ordered size 10 in blue last summer (5'7" and 130lbs, back then), and they fit so well! They fall just above my knees, and the only issue I had with them was that they would occasionally slip off in the back if I was swimming fast. It wasn't a big problem as I always wore a full suit underneath, but the 'draw string' is just for decoration and serves no purpose whatsoever. Thankfully, I have an amazing grandma that was able to sew elastic into the waist, and now they stay on great! My only complaint is that the Velcro really tore up my full suit that I wear underneath the shorts.. But, after my grandma altered them for me, I could take them on and off without having to use the Velcro. When wake-boarding and skiing, the shorts do create drag before the boat pulls me up, but as long as I get up fast, it is not a big issue.
We live on a lake, and our swimsuits are our clothes in the summertime (not kidding). These shorts got HARD wear. I'm not intentionally rough on my clothes, but being a true country girl, my clothes just wear out quicker than those of most 14-year-olds. I wore these board shorts while scooting around on the dock, working in the garden, mowing the lawn, etc. Even after a summer of continual use, and an occasional pool swim, these still look BRAND NEW! The color is not faded at all! We swam in an unclean hot tub at a vacation rental once, and now the shorts smell terrible, but that isn't Lands End's fault. I just ordered the next size up (12) in black to match my suit for this year! Yes, my mommy and daddy have read this and say it is ok to upload this review. I hope it is helpful.

good length
I bought these shorts to swim laps at the gym. I ordered three pairs before finding the correct fit. If they fit comfortably on land, they will be huge in the water. If you intend to use them for swimming I recommended ordering the smallest size you wear in pants. They aren't the ideal swimming shorts, but I like the longer length which is hard to find in a looser fabric/design.

These shorts are great, true to size fit.
I wear these shorts when I kayak, do my walking and jogging, they are very comfortable. They sit a bit low on my hips. They wisk away dampness and are by far the most comfortable sport shorts I have had in a long time. I wish they came in more colors!!
