These seem to be a new version of the shorts I bought last year.... This is very unfortunate, as I just love the OLD version!! These were made nicely, but I found the gap in the back to be big (I expected a little as they sit low) and bunched up with a wide belt. Had to send them back! May 11, 2013
love them These seem to be the exact same fit as the chinos I bought a year or so ago that are still my favorites. The material is nice and looks good without any ironing unlike some of the less expensive brands. These are NOT the same fit as the Lands End chinos. All Lands End pants seem to be too wide in the hips for me, even the modern cut. May 4, 2013
Great fit and length I saw the not so great reviews, and felt compelled to put in a good word for these shorts.. so they are not discontinued. I'm mid 40's 5'2" 115 lbs. I live in shorts 8 mths out of the yr. These are by far my favorite shorts. I have 4 pair. It's difficult when you are petite to find shorts that are age appropriate.. yet not frumpy. They are the perfect length and the fit is great. I wear a size down. I can see where they may be a bit conservative for teens, but for anyone over 30...these are great go to shorts. April 29, 2013
Pretty in Purple The reviews on these shorts seem to be all over the place. Here's my two cents. First impressions: the fabric is smooth and soft (NOT plasticky), the purple color is wonderful, a more red-violet color than you normally see. The dye is a bit uneven, in the way garment-dyed things tends to look. I like it. Fit-wise, I'm still dialing it in. Based on another review, I sized up (oops) and the waist and hips are definitely too big. My waist/hips are 30/37 and the 8 was just too big. Will try the 6 and see how it goes. April 26, 2013
Not my favorite fit I was hesitant to purchase based on other reviews but took the risk. I actually do like the style and the length a lot but the fit wasn't good on my curvy body. The waist was gapping pretty badly and the hip area was slightly snug. Overall it would've worked just okay but I didn't want "just okay" so I'm returning and continuing the search. Not to mention, the Canvas line seems to run smaller than normal Lands End. Oh...and the bright lavender was a lot brighter in person than the online photo. Still a pretty color though. So disappointing! I am a big-time shorts person, and I was excited to find these. I ordered the red, yellow and purple because these colors are hard to find elsewhere. The inseam was perfect and they seemed to fit well, but I had some BIG problems: 1. The fabric is really weird - stiff and kind of plastic-y yet somehow scratchy too. This becomes apparent AFTER you wash the shorts. I don't use weird detergent, and my other clothes are soft after washing. 2. The purple and yellow colors (esp. the yellow) are beyond hideous in person. 3. The dye job on the purple pair was splotchy in the front of the waist and on the fabric covering the zipper. I tried washing them to see if the color would even out, but no. Having big purple splotches over my lower abdomen is attention-drawing and not ok. I would not recommend these which is sad because they fit so well!!! If Land's End changes the fabric I'd be happy to try more pairs in the future! April 10, 2013
Strange fit These shorts have the strangest fit. At 36.5-30-40, I'm on the larger end of things, but I thought I'd give Canvas shorts a try. I ordered both an 8 and a 10, and both were terrible fit-wise, but for different reasons. The 10 was just enormous around the waist - I could probably have fit a small child in with me - so I immediately took them off. The 8 was still pretty big at the waist, but the seat and thighs were the right size. That said, the right size sure as heck wasn't flattering. With the waist all pooched out and the thighs fitting closer to the body, I looked as schlubby as humanly possible. It seems like these were designed for someone who has the same measurements at the hips and waist and presumably a very flat rear, as well. Doesn't sound like any woman I know... April 8, 2013
Very nice! Because these have no stretch, and I have that over-60 belly look, I sized up! What a good fit when I did! I really like these shorts, and would give the same review to the paisley poplin pair. I do believe they have the same style and quality as the more expensive department store shorts, so except for the sizing, I really love this product. Someone run another sale so I can get more colors! If it would only get warmer in SC so I could wear them! March 5, 2013
Fits more like juniors, not misses These shorts were a disappointment to me. They're not the fit of former Lands' End chino shorts. If you have curvy instead of straight hips, these shorts may not be for you. They are short in the crotch and ride up. They fit more like "juniors" instead of "misses". I regretfully had to send them back. March 2, 2013
