Perfect for Gym Class
My daughter's school does not require uniforms, but they do have a strict dress code. Shorts must be past the fingertips. My daughter has long arms and legs and all we could find for her were either too short or, ridiculously long and baggy basketball shorts. Then we came across these. They give her the coverage she needs without making her look like she's swimming in her brother's gym shorts.

Black is NOT see-thru and perfect for school
My daughter needs shorts for school that are not too shorts for gym, and she needed shorts for soccer. I got these in black, and while I can't comment on other colors, these are absolutely not see-thru. They are light and cool, but comfy with a full elastic waist and drawstring. I got the big kid small (7-8). My daughter is 5 years old in kindergarten, but she is tall. These fit her well, a little roomy, but they stay up and I will definitely get a second year out of these too.

Great fit, elastic waists fine -- BUTTTTT SEE THROUGH!
Absolutely heartbroken that you can SEE THROUGH the mesh fabric! Our daughter simply needed a larger size from last year, but these are going to be sent back as you can see clearly see her underwear.. Not good for anyone, much less a 2nd grader.. Disappointed, to say the least.. :(

Look at size charts carefully
My daughter is almost 12 years old and 5'2." She usually wears XL 14/16 in other brands. I checked the LE size charts and determined that size L/14 is her correct size in these shorts (though I instinctively wanted to order XL). The L/14 fits great, the drawstring works (she is tallish, average build but small waist), the length is great, not too short and not too long or baggy. Evergreen color (what we ordered, school color) does not seem to be see-through. Really very happy and re-ordering more for regular wear.

SEE THROUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These are shorts are see through, and not just a little.
You can see EVERYTHING through them!
They are obscene and my preteen daughter was mortified that I might send her to school wearing them!
They are going back immediately.

The waist is huge.
The waist is huge. There is not enough elastic in the waist for little ones. I had read the reviews from other parents who told me this and I expressed my concerns to my school about using these shorts for the PE uniforms. I am very disappointed with the fit. I have much higher expectations for Lands End. I also wish theses shorts actually came in more sizes and not just small, medium and large. There is too much of a difference in sizes. The quality is good.

not a good fit
the shorts didn't meet the school's requirement; i.e., they're not long enough. also, my 11 y.o. daughter is 4' 11 inches and I ordered a large. the huge waist had minimal elastic and has a drawstring.

PE shorts
We are required to have THESE shorts for our school PE classes, otherwise I would have returned them. By biggest complaint is with the elastic waisband ( or lack thereof) and the awkward pull drawstring. My thin kids have difficulty keeping these shorts secure ! My girls dislike the design of the drawstring and useless elastic wasit band....and so do I.
These shorts need to be a good stretchy elastic waist, and that's it !

The size "L" we bought look great. School hasn't started so we don't know how they'll wear but thus far, everything we've purchased from Land's End is worn for a year (until it's ourgrown) and then handed on to another child.

Too big and unflattering
If my daughter wasn't required to wear these for gym days I would never have bought them. They are enormous and very unflattering for a girl. She fights me every time she has to wear them.
