Reversible Down Pet Vest 3.5 5 13 13
Re-designed coat is 100% improvement I bought the squall and fleece jackets for my dachshund in previous years, and this jacket looked like a nice change. It is completely re-designed with side Velcro fasteners and a covered chest. Even has a slot for the harness leash fastener to come through. This is the best cold weather piece I have ever seen for dogs--and last year I spend $100 on a dog coat. Your dog will be so warm. October 15, 2012
best dog coat ever!! i have purchased many dog coats over the last few years, this is by far the best. i have 2 pit bulls with large chests. One of which has a bad leg which makes it difficult to lift him to put into typical jacket. this coat slips over the head and easily adjust for chest. VERY PLEASED!! February 13, 2013
Highly recommended. Best winter jacket so far !!!.. some re-designing to do. Love it, but need some improvements. Bought it for my 1 year old mini poodle. Fleece-free is the reason why I bought this jacket (w/ fleece, hair get matted). Secondly, it's down filled. In Quebec's climate I need the best jacket to protect my dog. Armpits too open, a little more material won't hurt. When we are walking w/ the direction of the wind, I have to push down the back end of the jacket. It's flipping towards the head and his back is exposed, warmth dissipated in a second. An elastic sewed in inside the back seams would be great. Collar is a bit short. It is sitting on the base of his neck, maybe make it 2 inches longer. Ditch the Velcro, matted and pulled hair is the result when hair gets tangled with it. Length is perfect. Oh yes, please add some reflectors. Bought 5 different winter coats for him ( from different stores/brand, hated it! ), THIS is a KEEPER. Kudos Landsend!!!! February 1, 2013
Wonderful down vest...but better design needed! I agree with many of the comments listed. I purchased this for my small poodle mix. The small is roomy, which is OK, however the back of the vest flares out like our dog has wings. In the wind, the back flaps forward defeating the warmth of the jacket. As mentioned the jacket is well made, and very much needed in our Chicago climate for our dogs...we applaud Land's End for this. But the Velcro needs to change, And the back design of the vest needs to be tapered in, perhaps round with elastic or a pull toggle. I would also suggest that expandable fleece be attached to the armholes....our dog is a small but the armholes are rather huge, which is fine for all size dog movement, but for many thin dogs a lot of cold air gets under the vest. I actually pull a sweater over the down vest, which catches on the Velcro, but adds more warmth around the armholes, and prevents the back end of the down vest from blowing forward. I am grateful we have this vest for our small dog in this brutally cold weather! Despite all that has been said, We applaud Land's End for this down vest/jacket addition....just please, make some improvements in the design, make this vest more like a jacket, fix the armholes, and please fix the back section, fix Velcro closures, ditch the reversible aspect, come out with solid colors...reflectors, would be nice....and you will have a winner! Thank you. January 24, 2013
bad design, bad sizing I got this to replace the old style from last year (with the metal rings). I love the concept of the patch over the belly because my dog is a carin terrier and low to the ground and wanted to try this one -- very disappointing!! First and foremost - the sizing is way off. Every other LE dog coat I have is a medium. I bought a medium and it is WAY too big! The design is very poor. The old design: had reflectors on it, and the inside was fleece to keep them warm. This new one is reversible - so it's cold on both sides and NO reflectors so I don't feel safe walking him at night. The back is horrific... those flaps are ridiculous! LE -- please make a decent coat with a belly patch! January 21, 2013
great belly coverage, velcro rash The bright purple and yellow coat is raspberry on the other side - not purple. Personally I don't need the reverse feature, just a great winter coat that keeps the belly dry. This does the job perfectly. Its filled with down and gets warm quickly. My dog has a narrow stance and no other brand with belly coverage, has ever fit as a result. This one is cut perfectly (although straps could adjust tighter for us) and doesn't cover our boy dogs privates (also an issue with other brands). The MAJOR design issue is the straps. Because the jacket reverses, there is a VERY rough section of hooked velcro that faces out and rubs the inside of the front legs when your dog runs. My dog was injured and limping as a result. It pulled his hair out and caused a bare rash. Still, its the best fit out there, so I am going to remove the straps and put fabric covered velcro on, so its not reversible. I am using reflective fabric for safety, which all urban dog jackets. Would be great, if Land's End did the same!! January 18, 2013
Good enough to keep, but some disappointing elements We're keeping it partially because there are no other comparable jackets on the market to exchange it for and we have other kinds of jackets. Being a lover of all things down myself for as long as I can remember (not to be confused with synthetic down, which to me feels totally different), I searched the internet for a matching piece for my corgi chihuahua mix and found this reasonably priced garment. For the warmth vs. warmth potential it actually provides, it is only barely worth the $45. I guess what I'm most disappointed to see is that there is no hip or back coverage at all. The back behind the velcro straps mostly flaps around like an extraneous cape. Qaisuke is 18 lbs., 14" long, 19 in. girth, so squarely a small, not within the spectrum of the medium. The jacket does technically fit her perfectly around the girth and up through the front over her puppia harness. I guess if you have a dog who is within but toward the small end of the sizing spectrum and no booty whatsoever, you might be happier with the jacket then I am (like the other reviewer mentioned, you would wrap the velcro tabs over the dog's back rather than through the loops). It does provide a nice muff of a scarf around the neck area. The neck fits fine but any tighter would be too snug, so if you've got a dog with a proportionately big neck, this probably won't cut it. I swore I would never buy a velcro dog garment again after I had velcro fail miserably on an RC Pets dog coat one hour into a hike after a blizzard, but I made the exception this time because there are no other goose down coats on the market with anything other than velcro and these tabs fold over on the sides instead of down around the middle. I do wonder how the coat is going to wash and whether the exposed (two sided male/female) velcro will wreck havoc on my other laundry the way unfastened velcro in the wash tends to. I may wash the jacket in a pillow case or something just to be safe. I would have preferred that the coat not be reversible (who doesn't like plaid?) so the velcro was not required to be two sided. The sewing of the garment seems good quality and contains just the right amount of down. Overall, Lands End, okay, but in redesigning future versions, please consider 1. clips over velcro-- velcro ruins laundry, attracts dog hair and dirt and all manner of leaves outdoors, is harder to clean dirt out of, and fails once wet/snowy. I know that the majority of the pet industry relies on velcro but I find these standards to be low. Well rounded dogs get exercised off leash, off the beten path, often for longer than hour depending on age and breed, etc. and they need clothing that stays on and lasts. This may make the garment cost more, but when you get to the point where you are committed/doting enough to buy a down coat for your dog, we're willing to pay extra for quality and durability. 2. hip and hind quarters coverage-- darts would help keep the back end in place, but really what I would like to see is more coat back there. maybe a soft elastic strap that goes behind male genitals to keep it in place. Thank you very much for your time. January 9, 2013
The best winter coat for my dogs This down dog jacket, with chest coverage, is the warmest winter jacket that I have found for my two dogs. We live in the mountains with no household heat. During the winter, our house maintains 58 F inside. My dogs love putting on their coats, which keep them quite warm. This jacket is also durable and does not snag on garden bushes, like a sweater does. My dogs have big chests and small waists. The adjustable velcrose belt, when closed over the belly, is too big. What I do instead is overlap the two halves of the velcrose belt over my dog's back over his jacket. I prefer to not use the belt slits. The adjustable fit is perfect for both dogs. With the belt's snug fit, my male dog does not urinate into his jacket. My dogs and I are so happy with these jackets, that I bought two more. December 15, 2012
Awkward Fit I have purchased multiple dog-coats for my pup from Lands' End and the medium always fits perfectly. After reading the reviews on this coat, I purchased a medium and a large to try. Both were huge and fit very oddly. The Velcro strap that goes under the dog only has a small square of male/female velcro on it so it's really not adjustable (smaller). Then the back of the coat is huge and floppy (not fitted) and there needs to be a second strap a little further back (male dogs may be inhibited). The "Quilted Pet Coat" is a much better design...now only if the straps didn't come unstitched... Lands' End, please beef up the reinforcements on your pet-gear, as well as consistent sizing and fit. Thanks, a loyal customer for 20+ years. December 3, 2012
Really nice vest I bought a size small for my 12 pound dog and it fits her good. I love the way it fastens around her chest although I would like it better if it fastened around her stomach as well, to provide a more secure close fit. My dog has a large chest which can sometimes cause the bottom of the jacket to float up or not rest completely on her back. My husband is going to add an additional fastener to this vest. I'm impressed with the quality. The vest seems to be very durable. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and my dog will be nice and toasty on her daily walks. November 19, 2012
