Great fit, beautiful fabric, two annoying problems
This coat fits beautifully. The fabric is really nice. I was almost sad to see winter go.
My two beefs:
1. One side of the collar curls in and rubs my neck. It would look so good if that collar would just stand up nice on it's own without constant fiddling.
2. The middle button is already coming loose, which I could see coming from a mile away. the buttons are sewn in loosely, on weak thread.

100% Wool Please!
I really like this coat. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if it had no synthetics, especially the outer shell. At this price, real 100% wool isn't too much to ask. I like what LE did with the Canvas Men's Wool Down Parka (Item #42244-2AH0). 100% wool upper shell, 100% waxed cotton lower shell (a color block pattern with the shoulders and arms in waxed cotton and the rest of the main body made from 100% wool), Down fill, 100%cotton quilted inner/lining. I managed to snag the last one? And do not have it yet but am worried it will be too heavy for our Virginia winters. He needs a "warmer" coat like this one but LE doesn't rate their Canvas coats like that. So, I have to hope it will work.
So many people are going "green" these days. You now see organic clothing in Big box stores. So, can't LE at least offer items with no synthetics? Based on how fast the two Canvas synthetic free coats that sold out quickly, there is a demand. I know I want them!

Great Coat
Well put together. Pockets fit what you need, not sure about the mitten review, but men wear gloves and they fit in these pockets. Hood is great on cold days.

love this coat
I personally can find no fault with this coat, except maybe in retrospect I wish there were also side pockets at mid chest level (maybe something to consider for future styling LE?). I like the way it fits and looks and have even been complimented on it by total strangers passing by on the street.. I would gladly buy it in every color they come in. For that I will wait till they are reduced in price. Presently I have the dark navy color.

Sharp Coat
I bought this for my husband for his birthday. He looks sharp in it and very stylish. He has to travel to Europe for work occasionally and he'll fit in nice with this coat. The only thing we do not like about it is that the collar doesn't lie down nicely when the hood is off. He will mostly likely wear it without the hood. We'll probably call a LE associate to see if they can exchange it. It is dry clean only and I don't want to have to pay for a new coat to get pressed. Otherwise, nice coat and well made.

Fantastic coat
Probably one of the best things I've purchased on Lands End. Fantastic Coat. The details (ie the collar, buttons, zippers) all add a really great value for the money. I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a stylish coat (especially since the hood being removable).

Badly designed, badly made
This coat from both inadequate design and needlessly cheap construction.
(1) Design. There are two issues.
First, the arms are not well designed around the shoulder. The wearer cannot lift his arms more than about parallel to the ground without lifting the entire coat on his body. There is not enough slack under the arm. My wife, who makes clothes and has taken tailoring classes, says that the arm needs a gusset in the arm pit to allow freedom of movement. I noticed that restricted freedom of movement was a complaint with the Land's End topcoat, which apparently has the same design flaw.
Second, the seemingly-large flap-covered exterior pockets are not really so large. The main problem is that the flap for closing them is too snug a fit, making it impossible to store anything of bulk (as in mittens) in the pocket and also be able to close the flap.
(2) Construction. The flaps on the exterior pockets each close with two snaps, one at each corner of the flap. On both pockets, one of the snaps pulled right out as soon as I opened the flap. In both cases, it was the male part of the snap, which was fastened to the outside wall of the pocket by flanges on the inside of the pocket. The flanges were much too small a diameter to prevent them from pulling right through the holes through which the male half of the snap protruded from the pocket. Because they are a grommet-type fit rather than sewed in, there is no way to repair them without special equipment.
We returned the coat for a refund.

A lovely coat
Beautifully stitched, no velcro, it fits beautifully. I bought one in each color, I wear it everywhere.
