Prized for its cool elegance since the days of the Pharaohs, linen must be created with great care to bring out its natural beauty. Flax — the fiber from which linen is woven — can’t be rushed, or it becomes coarse or brittle. And then couldn’t be spun and woven into this soft, silky fabric.
Since the 13th century, the finest linen has been made in Ireland, and this fabric is from Baird McNutt, Ireland’s foremost linen mill. Soft construction removes some of the layers and linings found in traditional jackets, creating a lighter-weight coat with natural shoulders. An excellent tailored jacket for a slim build
I believe this is the first ready to wear jacket I've purchased that requires no tailoring whatsoever. The sleeves end within a quarter-inch of where I'd usually have them tailored, so there's no point in paying to have them shortened, the waist has perfect suppression (it fits my body without too much or too little space) and the jacket is long enough to cover my rear and my .. err.. front, without being tasteless or too long. That's fantastic for me, but may be problematic for some customers.
For some context: I'm 5' 10", 163 pounds, with a 34-inch sleeve and an eight-inch drop. That means I wear a size 40 jacket and that the matching trousers I bought have a 32-inch waist. I'm slim, but otherwise pretty average. If you're taller than me or have longer arms, this jacket may not work for you, even if you're a nominal size 40. I wonder if numerous (wrongheaded) complaints about long sleeves in other reviews spurred Land's End to shorten their sleeves. Ready to wear jackets SHOULD have long sleeves so that they can be tailored to fit everybody. Shortening sleeves is cheap and easy; lengthening, not so much. A peek inside suggests that these sleeves can be lengthened another inch to an inch and a half.
An earlier review suggested that the tailored jacket was cut larger than expected around the stomach. That is not my experience, and I wonder if that reviewer received a regular fit jacket rather than a tailored jacket. The jacket I received has no excessive space around the middle.
The fabric, cut and drape are excellent.The color is a bit warmer than in the photo; sort of a golden-brown. Fit is what I would describe as "European" -- the shoulders are snug, but not tight. It's not at all baggy in the unfortunate American traditional style. At this price, the jacket is fused, of course, but looks twice the price, anyway. If it fits you, it's really quite impressive and an excellent bargain.

Shoddy look, poor craftsmanship
I have bought 43 size jackets/blazers from Lands End before and they fit me perfectly. I bought one some six years ago and I still wear it. So I am a regular customer of yours. However this jacket also 43 is tight on shoulder, sleeves are at an inch short. It was made for a smaller person. I have returned it and am getting the impression that quality is taking a hit at your end. Lands End should not sell such shoddy quality.

Well-made, good for warm weather
I don't like wearing the typical light-coloured summer-weight jacket when going out in the evening, so I ordered this one. Well-made, fit is right-on, partially lined so it is not too warm for outside summer dining.

Really wanted to like this jacket, but it never stopped looking wrinkled. That's the downside of linen, I guess.
I really wanted to like this jacket, but it never stopped looking wrinkled. Overall craftsmanship left something to be desired as well. Threads bunched and balled in the pattern, and the sleeves were just too short. Guess it was made for a little Irishman, but not a long-armed Texan. Sorry Lands End, can't cover your back on this one!

excellent potential, no delivery
The Globe and Mail announced the arrival of a number of Irish linen made items at the Land?s End. Personally, I have not seen such a quality linen product with such an affordable price in ages. The yarns? colours looked in the pictures simply stunning, and so the pattern of the fabric. The ?regular? and the ?tailored? fit offerings reminded me some items I?ve been purchasing from the UK. So, first, I let myself to have Glen Plaid linen trousers. I am 6?2? tall and around 210 lbs Caucasian. My 34 size tailored fit pants were too small... in an unusual way as the waist felt perfectly fitting while looking at my reflection in the mirror I wished I has a saw to shave off some of my perfectly average hips. My crouch though felt... shell I say rather nicely supported with no sense of being in a crowded compartment. The length of the pants was also perfect. In overall I looked like a middle aged men attempting to assess the outcomes of the recent years of his hard work with Wii plus, kettle bells, and tennis by attempting to fit the ?new? old body into the trousers he hasn?t tried since 1979. So, I went to explore a linen jacket option made from the same fabric. I searched for the size 46, tall, instead of my usual 44T, attempting to benefit from the recent experience trying my regular size in Glen Plaid pants. ?I need to be smart? I said to myself and looked for the size 46 instead. I found it, but with no Tall option, in the Tailored fit type. After converting some 3D images in my head I decided that 46 Regular should do, perhaps with some additional after-market tailoring assistance. It didn?t work. Although my normally 44 size shoulders and my entire back managed to fit into the jacket perfectly, the sleeves were ridiculously short while the bottom part in the front felt that this garment was made for a man with at least 100 lbs of presently missing weight to be accommodated below the first of the two buttons. In a tailored fit? My recommendation: check the designs of, say, Banana Republic, or, perhaps, Tyrwhitt or Crombie in the UK. How come they are doing it right? In short: an excellent project which went wrong. The fabric is out of this world though.
