FITS FINE WARM ENOUGH. DONOT LIKE THE LINING COLOR SHOULD HAVE MORE INSIDE POCKET(S) IT LOOKS FINE BUT I DON'T LIKE THE LINING COLOR AND IT SHOULD HAVE MORE INSIDE POCKETS. May 11, 2013
Great for around town and on the mountains This is a very warm, lightweight jacket with a host of very clever features. I have worn it when it's been 15 degrees and 40 degrees, and it does a great job of being non bulky warmth. I've been out in sleet, freezing rain, rain, and sunny days too and I've not been cold in the jacket. The body size is perfect but the sleeves are a bit narrow, so only thin insulating layers underneath fit. So a fleece vest would work well, although I've been using a thin fleece underneath and it's felt great. February 10, 2013
Unbelievably light!! When I pulled this out of the packaging, my initial thought was that they sent me the wrong product! It felt like a windbreaker. Yet, when I put it on and went outside it kept me remarkably warm. Not sure how they do it! Wonderful to finally have a coat that does not weigh you down while keeping you warm on the slopes! TOPS of the Line The old man has a bevy of jackets from the very light and in increasing warmth up to this jewel of a protector. Without equivocation this is the finest jacket he has purchased from Lands End and that includes ones going back for over 15 years. His original squall is still wearable and gets its share of duty; however, this jacket may very well take over from the whole bunch especially when it is cold as it has been lately. It has every bell and whistle any person can think of except a place for the shotgun. No consideration was omitted. It even has zippered sides that can be opened to release built up body heat and it works well. the thumb holes work well and are effective. I could not imagine what the inside skirt was for until I saw it in action and it too is a nice and effective addition. Thank you Lands End for making a quality PrimaLoft jacket that is far better than any I have purchased before. January 27, 2013
Best ski jacket, or winter jacket for that matter, ever! I ordered this specifically for my ski trip to Banff, Alberta (Canada) because I wanted something that kept me warm but was not bulky and allowed mobility. The jacket itself is very well made with excellent seams and the sealed zipper is key for snow sports or any environment where water is present. I'm 5' 6", 145 lbs and ordered a size small; the jacket fit better than any other winter jacket I have tried on or have (for once, the sleeves were not long). Wearing a sweater underneath, the fit was comfortable and just right. It's a standard fit (not slim fit) which is better in this case as it allows you to wear a hoodie or sweater, and better still, it looks flattering and doesn't make you look bulky. In fact, the most common remark I have received about the jacket is that, at first blush, it looks unsubstantial as a winter jacket (i.e. too thin and compact) but in this case, that's the whole point! People are very surprised to learn that it holds up so well in cold weather and as a ski jacket. A testament to the windproof and excellent heat retention capacity of this jacket is that for my ski trip, all I had on was a dry fit short sleeve shirt and I did not feel cold (the temperature in Banff was -9 C/15 F without windchill). Granted, the temperature rating should be taken with a grain of salt because the experience depends on many factors such as body fat percentage, level of activity and what you're wearing underneath and should be kept in mind. As for me, I'm a pretty lean guy and I was engaged in a winter sport. The powder skirt is an excellent touch and something that you'd normally find on a significantly more expensive jacket. As an added benefit, it is removable for when you're not engaging in winter sports. The sleeve pocket (on the left sleeve) is a nice touch and allowed me to store some cash/credit cards with easy access; the microfiber cloth built in the pocket for wiping your visor is a very nice touch! But, it can be used for other things as well (glasses, touch screen phones, etc). The hoodie is not removable (very minor gripe but not a deal breaker by any stretch) but it is a good size, allowing it to be worn over a helmet easily (depends on the size of the helmet though, it would be a bit tight on a L size but manageable). Because of this, the hoodie is rather spacious when worn without a helmet but it is still useable (you can use the draw strings to make it tighter). The side pockets are lined with microfleece which is a nice touch. I have not had a chance to test out its water proof capability but suffice it to say that while skiing there were points where I was covered in snow and the jacket stayed bone dry throughout the runs. Overall, an excellent, well made and effective winter sports jacket especially at the sale price. It's the best bang for your buck you can find especially compared to other popular jackets (e.g. The North Face, Columbia, etc). In fact, it's so good that I have been and intend to continue using this as my primary winter jacket for the Canadian winter! January 17, 2013
Excellent Great quality and features for the money. Very happy with the fit and quality of the way it is made. I haven't been skiing in it yet, but compared to other jackets I have seen and tried on, it appears to be great. January 8, 2013
Why no larger sizes with Land's End? I really wanted this jacket..Excellent price-already know about Lands End products-but this is not really a 2XL. Why doesn't Land's End sell ANY Mens jackets/coats in larger sizes? Like a 3XL or bigger? It's not that hard for the factories to make larger sizes, or is it? Most of your products that you sell don't come in larger sizes, and that's a shame. This coat appears very warm and very well made. Pity it didn't fit me. Would have been an excellent winter coat here in NJ.. January 7, 2013
Lightweight, but warm This is a very nice winter coat for those wanting something warm, but not bulky. Perfect for doing outdoor activities in while not adding weight to the feel. January 6, 2013
buy it Warm, light, fits well, perfect for skiing. January 5, 2013
Nice jacket This is a nice jacket, the water repellent/proof coating works. I can see water beads and you can brush it off. The zippers are also water proof in the main zipper and pockets. No issue with the zippers for me. The fit gives you enough room for layering which is quite good. The elastic in the cuffs is tighter compared to my other jackets that have them (Arcteryx Atom LT and Bonfire Radiant). Hopefully in time it will loosen up, if not I will have to cut it. I need blood flow in my wrists. The pit zips are short it only goes from the arm pit down. The other brands go from the bottom to the arm pit area and mid way in your arm. So in essence you are only getting 50% breathability compared to the other brands. The jacket is warm I like it as a -5C and warmer jacket with a good fleece sweater. I have a snow squall jacket and this for me is warmer. (170lb 5'7" and I got a medium in black). Note that it doesn't show in the pic but if you get Black the red lining is all over inside.
