I Live In These Every Summer
Lands End has had several variations of these shorts but overall, they're wonderful for casual summer wear. The elastic lets me alter my weight periodically and the belt loops let me keep the shorts in place. Comfortable, easy to care for, and unless you are really dressing for the country club set, they're good looking in any setting from the boat to the casual restaurant at the end of the day.

comfortable and practical
these are great shorts for a more casual look and for outdoor work, and are offered in several excellent colors; are also cut in a more sensible length (not jams)

These shorts are exactly how I like 'em, with smallest exception.
The shorts are 7" Inseam (hard to find) with no extra outside cargo pockets.
The material is perfect, not that shiny old-man phony cotton, this is the real schtuff.
They're 7-beltloop and very deep front pockets, also hard to find.
The only things I'd change: ditch the expando-matic wasteband and the drawstring, although the nature of the wasteband really is useful... but I'm afraid to cut out the drawstring though, will my butte fall off?
