Needs better colors I was pleasantly suprised that my new jacket was better than previous reviews suggested. The fit is good and I like that the inner pocket is zippered rather than velcro. The only thing I don't like is that none of the colors appealed to me, especially the dual color options, so I had to opt for black. I do think the first Squall jacket I bought decades ago is better than my new one. It lasted a long time and had a kind of blue/gray color that I wish was still available. May 29, 2013
Nice enough jacket, although I was looking for something in a lighter weight for spring and fall use. I kept it, although it was not the light jacket I was looking for. Not sure you have a lighter one of that general style. May 28, 2013
comfortable and versatile After long time admiring these jackets, I finally bought one this past Fall and wore it through the Winter, where it kept me warm, with appropriate layering, through any conditions. I like how easy it is to put on and the versatility of wearing it with casual and work attire. One drawback is that the sleeves seem to have a lot of extra material in them, making them look larger than needed, perhaps. Also, the styling, although a classic, may be seen by some people as becoming dated, in comparison with some of the currently popular more form-fitting models with additional technical features. But that's the style, and there's a good reason it's a classic - it just works. May 25, 2013
Great Color - Very Functional I've owned a number of Lands End Squall Jackets. I've thoroughly enjoyed each of them. Each year, Lands End works to make improvements to these jackets and each of these upgrades makes living with the jacket a little easier. Specifically, this jacket has an extra large loop beneath the collar to make hanging the jacket on a hook a little more convenient. Also current versions have fleece and zippers on the front pockets making them both warm and secure. This particular jacket is also waterproof where some previous ones were water resistent. The difference can be felt as the jacket is a little stiffer when new than previous versions. I suspect that will go away when the jacket is first washed. My previous jacket is still in use, about 6 years old and still looks like new. I expect the same from this one. May 13, 2013
Great and would be even better with 2-way zipper & reflective tape I have had great service from my Squall Jacket and after using it for several years I would like to offer two suggestions for your consideration that would take it from a great jacket to unbeatable. Since I do use it for bicycling, I wish it had a two-way zipper so that sitting on the saddle (or in a car) I could partially open the lower section to free up leg movement. The other suggestion is, for a few colors, include reflective tape to increase night-time visibility for bikers and pedestrian wearers. Otherwise - it's an indispensable part of my wardrobe. This is a poorer version of the older Squall Jacket I had hoped to replace. This jacket is cut to fit a person with the chest of an adult and the shoulders of an infant. It was so tight in the armpit/shoulder area that I could not lift my arms. I would not want the rest of the jacket to be bigger. It would seem the item is cut to fit the average Martian. The material is different than the older squall jackets. It is stiff and every body movement makes an extraordinary amount of noise. The only improvement is the zipper. May 12, 2013
The XL Tall fit my husband perfectly. It was also a great value. It is the perfect material for a cold, wet and windy Wisconsin Spring! The just-right combination of colors enhances a 'lite feeling' while facing the inclement weather. It is a great jacket between seasons that is otherwise difficult to find in regular department stores. April 27, 2013
Perfect Jacket with elastic My husband prefers jackets with elastic in the sleeves and waist. It fits perfect. It is warm and we also love the colors. It is also waterproof. I had searched stores for a jacket like this and found this on an email from Land's End. We love the product. April 11, 2013
At least 10 years old and still going strong About 10 years ago I bought a new Squall jacket to replace one that had torn in a fall. I didn't like any of the colors that were offered in women's sizing and while perusing the sale site one day, I discovered a very pretty pale blue jacket, exactly what I wanted - only it was a men's size and a greatly reduced price. I ordered it and it fit fine (I'm 5'10" with a big frame). It has been worn and washed and worn and washed some more and still looks as good as the day I took it out of the package. It is absolutely wind proof and with the Polartec 300 insulation, very warm. If I need more warmth, I wear a fleece vest under it. It is one of the best Lands' End products I have ever owned. I expect to wear it for many more Upstate NY winters. April 5, 2013
I had always had good experiences with Lands End and its products, until now I have owned MANY Squall Jackets over the years. In particular, I owned a black/grey squall jacket which provided me years of good service. It was warm, comfortable, and versatile. However, while the jacket had lots of wear left in it, the knit waistband had lost its elasticity, so I returned it for exchange, in keeping with the generous Lands End Guaranteed Period policy. I just received the replacement jacket today. The replacement jacket is not in any way comparable to the original jacket in overall quality. Although it fits well, it is lighter, noisier, and most definitely not as warm. I will not speculate as to the motivation of Lands End in reducing the quality of the jacket, but it is obvious and quite disappointing. I almost wish I had not returned the original jacket. I do have another of the original quality squalls. And if that one loses its snap, I'll have the waistband replaced by a local tailor rather than return it for a lesser quality replacement. If I had paid full price for this new one, it would have gone right back. March 30, 2013
