Wow, what a parka! Ordered this for my older daughter, who is autistic and very picky about clothing. She doesn't mind wearing this at all. She doesn't like gloves and usually tears them off, but she will grudgingly tolerate the built-in hand-warmers at the end of the sleeves. The parka is pretty lightweight, yet warm enough to get through Wisconsin winters. The bright teal is actually a nice shade, although my daughter would have preferred purple! But for the overstock price, we can be less picky about that! April 27, 2013
Love Lands' End! I cannot say enough good things about Lands' End. I always buy at the end of the season for next year, they wash very well, my twins are never complaining about being cold, the hoods are roomy enough to wear a hat underneath, etc. I'm a frequent buyer. Just love the quality. January 13, 2013
Great fit, great quality We're on our second round of Squall parkas for both kids - only due to them outgrowing the first ones. My kids both have long torsos, so the longer length of the Squall parka is perfect. The coat is plenty warm, yet lightweight enough to stuff in a backpack on those days when it's very cold in the morning, but nice and sunny when school gets out. January 7, 2013
My granddaughter loves her parka The parka is true to size and fits her good. December 27, 2012
Warm but not bulky! I love lands end coats. Always a perfect fit and I am always confident that my kids are warm without being bulky. I was nervous about buying the "actual" recommended size (based on the chart) because I would like to get two years out of it but I was very happy with the size. I bought size 4 for my 4 1/2 year old and with the extend-a-sleeves I definately think i will get another season. My daughter loves the built in mittens and that it is easy to do up herself. Great winter in Michigan coat! Bought 6x for my 6 yr old, which is her normal size. She has room to grow, which is great. Love the draw string inside to keep wind out, "gloves" attached to sleeves are excellent! My daughter loves them! Great having all pockets, big inside one is great to hold a hat (no excuse for losing it!) another inside pocket perfect for pack of Kleenex. Length is perfect! Only negative, but yet still a positive, is the extending sleeve. The sleeve is folded and whip stitched on the inside, so u can remove stitches to make longer sleeves. My daughter has complained w certain shirts that it makes it bumpy feeling and uncomfortable. But don't let that hesitate to buy. Worth the purchase!! Great coat lands end!! December 23, 2012
Happy with this coat. Bought this for my daughter who just turned 5 in a medium (5-6). I chose the coral pink color and it is really nice. Not orangey at all. The accent color is a light pink, not white which I thought was kind of hard to tell on the website picture. We live on the NC coast and this coat will be perfect for our coldest days and any trips to Chicago to visit family. The coat seems a little bulky right now because she has some extra room in it, but not bad at all and she will wear it at least one if not two more years. I was not disappointed at all. Excellent quality, my daughter loves the handcuffs. Her only wish (and mine) is that the pockets were easier to access. Even her small hands have a problem slipping into the side access of the front pockets with or without gloves. December 9, 2012
NOT a winter jacket There is no way this jacket is as warm as their temperature rating. It is well made and attractive but THIN. It would be great on a chilly day and will keep the wet out but we're going to the midwest for Chistmas and it won't stand up to that kind of winter cold. Also, it has an open bottom where chill and snow can easily get in. I'm sending it back. November 30, 2012
Not bulky but warm enough for Northern Ohio winters! I purchased the squall parka last year for our 5 1/2 yr old. I was a bit concerned about the thinness for a winter coat, but we gave it a try for Jan 12' through March 12'. My dtg was warm and did not complain about being cold for recess or playing in the backyard. She is tall and thin for her age now 6 1/2 yrs old, 48" tall, and almost 45 lbs. So, I figure she would be colder, but she tends to wear an undershirt, her school shirt, and sometimes a lighter cardigan type sweater. With less bulk she can run and play, and the longer parka does not hinder her but keeps her bottom warm and more heated. In Feb one of the snaps on the front pocket was suddenly cracked off, and due to my delay I returned it to Sears in early March. Other than the young man who did the return having a poor work ethic, I was pleased when another coat arrived at our home (although I would have been happy with a new snap on the old coat). This year the 6x parka still fits nicely despite 2 inches of growth since January, and we haven't even let out the grow-a-longs on the parka or the matching snow bibs in 6x either which shocks us too. My only two critques is that the pockets are too small for anything more than the cheap stretch gloves, and something to keep the wind from coming up the whole coat would be nice; however, my dtg has says the wind does not blow up the jacket. She is pleased and so are we! November 28, 2012
