Perfect for the Northern Vermont Spring Climate
Snazzy lime color with dark blue. Fit well with room to take into the Fall, use in the wind and the rain.

This jacket is great for milder winter or early spring.
My older son has been wearing these jackets for several years. We purchased this jacket for our 3 year old and it is a great fit and colour. the weight is perfect for the milder days we are having. My only complaint is the partial flap under the zipper. This requires me to fiddle with the zipping each time. A challenge when your 3 year old wants to do it "on my own"! He just doesn't have the dexterity or skill yet. I would recommend this issue be altered for future styles.

Annoying zipper block
I should have payed more attention to the picture where the child does not have his coat zipped all the way up. Because of some annoying fleece flap it is near impossible for my 5 year old to zip his coat all the way up - which in Wisconsin is a must! However, whenever I zip it up for him, he says it's too tight or bothers his chin so basically it's a no win situation. He has never complained of being in cold and it is still in great condition after one winter, so in that aspect it is good quality. Just wish they would remove that weird flap that obstructs the zipper!

Do NOT like "snow cuffs" & other modifications!
I love Lands End products for my son & have been buying for years. Each year though, you make modifications to your clothes that never seem to work for us. This year, it was the SnowGuard wrist cuffs. They do not fit right & my son absolutely hates them! We spend 5 minutes every morning trying to tuck them up into the sleeve, but to no avail. I am at the point where I am going to cut them out.
My son also doesn't like how high the zipper comes up. I understand this is meant as more of a snow jacket, but they way it fits... he ends up with the top of the coat in his mouth. So, he refuses to zip up all the way, allowing for cold air & snow to get it.. thus not protecting him.
If the jacket isn't doing the job it was intended to do, then I can't justify the purchase.
I will say, however, that the quality is always good & that my son outgrows your clothes before they ever get destroyed. :)

Closure... some skill required!
My son has high functioning autism and is able to manipulate zippers just fine on every coat except this one. The top of the zipper is covered by a Velcro flap, which completely covers the pull portion of the zipper when the coat is zipped closed. This makes it difficult for him to find the pull portion of the zipper to remove his coat at school. He is in a traditional classroom, and it makes him look like he is not independent with removing his coat. I want him to have a high quality coat, but it comes with a cost to his reputation, because his traditional teachers are always judging his ability. This is not his first squall jacket from Lands End, but I am not thrilled with this years model. You made this Velcro flap mistake and also added these weird half gloves that are built into the cuff. These half gloves are designed to keep the snow out of the child's sleeves when they are wearing gloves, and it is a great idea. My son as I suspect is the case with most kids, spend more time wearing this coat socially, than playing in the snow. Quite frankly, when my son goes out to play in the snow, I put his old coat on him, so his school coat stays clean. These half gloves are ALWAYS there hanging out like a dirty little fleece rag unused, but dirty and hanging out. I have tried tucking these half gloves back up into the cuff to no avail. These two new additions to the squall jacket are not good, please eliminate them, so I can purchase another coat next year. Size and warmth is excellent.

Jacket is tight when zipped up to the neck, and it is not warm enough for cold winter months without an additional layer underneath.
My 7 year old son will not zip the coat all the way up to his neck. He says it is too tight around the neckline when he does this. We live in the midwest, so zipping a coat all the way up is a must. It helps when the hood is up, but my son likes to wear a hat instead of the hood. so this has been a struggle. The coat fits fine otherwise. I would not buy this coat again or recommend it for this reason. For a young boy who gets dressed by himself, a coat should be easy to put on and zip all the way up.
Also, my son complained about being cold with just the squall jacket on. We ordered a separate fleece jacket from Lands End and that has helped. Lands End may want to mention or recommend this in their future advertising.

Husky son loves squall jacket
This is my son's second (husky) Squall Jacket and he loves it. My son is 4'7" tall and 150 lbs. His problem area is his belly and he also has a "bubble" butt. The XL fits well, the sleeves are slightly long (on him) and falls below his bottom, almost like a parka. At first, the bottom of the jacket jutted out in front, but this was easily resolved with the elastic pulls inside the front pockets, when tightened, it looks more like a jacket than a parka. I purchased Bright Lime on sale, I was concerned about it looking fluorescent green and how it would appear on a husky frame, but I was pleasantly surprised. It's slimming and the colour is rich rather than bright, and stylish compared to the standard LE colours. I gave 4 sails, only because I prefer last year's plain-front zipper style. Flaps with velcro frustrate my son to no end, but he loves the squall line so much that it's not an issue on this jacket. FYI I also purchased the Polartec waterproof gloves on clearance in Deck Grey to match, despite the "iffy" reviews, they are great and fit just fine.

Great warmth, without bulk.
This is a great coat. My son loves the color (blue) and the jacket is warm, yet not bulky. He feels warm enough in our Iowa cold-weather on a daily basis, and the coat kept him dry and warm on a ski vacation. The thumb feature on the sleeves especially protects his wrists from wet snow. Good job LE!

Great purchase!
I bought two of these, blue and orange, for elementary age boys. The colors are great, they fit as expected, and the quality looks top-notch. The boys have worn them in some chilly 35 degree weather and they were very warm. They love the thumb-hole feature, and also really like the hoods. They cover well without being too restrictive. There is an adjustable velcro strap on the back of the hood too so that it can be pulled back if it is going forward too much. They happily grab these coats when it's cold now. Oh, and I didn't notice until after I bought the coats, that there is an extra seam allowance on the inside of the sleeves, which can be let out when your kids need longer sleeves. That is a pretty cool feature!

Great coat
I was a little worried when it arrived that it might not be very warm, as it's somewhat thin. But, it's great. My son absolutely loves it. We both love the thumb slip at the end of the sleeves for keeping snow from going up the sleeve. I'm very pleased with this coat.
