great jacket My son loves it! but I am not sure it would be warm enough for the winter. it looks too thin and light,, but I'll wait and see April 27, 2013
Warm and easy to put on, but... I bought this for my four year old son and it is a good coat. Even when he's wearing only a t-shirt underneath, I know the parka is keeping him warm enough. The velcro closure is very convenient for those times when we are in a hurry. After a season of use the reflective piping is starting to disintigrate, which is disappointing. The structure is a bit stiff, which my son finds irritating, although I think running it through the washer several times softened it up. Lastly, the wrist gaiters with the thumb holes seemed like such a good idea - no more snow up the sleeves, right? However, my son hates them. He seldom wears the gaiters so they are usually bunched up around his wrists, making it hard to put on mittens. But I fully expect to get another winter out of this parka, since it fit big when it arrived and the sleeves will extend. March 20, 2013
My son loves this jacket and the thumb hole The jacket is quite warm for the winter of New Jersey. And extra sleeves /thumb hole is very nice feature and keeps my son's hand warm.My son is 4 ,I bought a bigger size 5/6 so that he can wear this next winter. He loves the color since his favorite color. Absolutely perfect jacket - even for North Dakota temps! We now own 4 of these jackets for my 4 oldest kids, 2 of which are on their 3rd winter/2nd child. This is an absolutely FANTASTIC jacket - I honestly didn't think it would be warm enough based on the lack of bulk, but whatever material/layering used in this is amazing, my kids wear these jackets with just a t-shirt or long sleeves under them in our North Dakota (i.e. windy and COLD - projected to be a high of -7 tomorrow with wind gusts up to 45 mph) winters. Kids have to go outside @ school until temps reach -15 F actual or windchill so the have to have a good coat! We even wear them skiing/sledding at temps around 10 to 15 degrees F. The "mitten sleeve" feature is great for keeping out the snow and covering the spot between coat and mittens - no more cold wrists! The "grow-a-long sleeves" are great especially for my stick-figure son who only needed to move up a size because the coat got too short at the bottom. My only wish would be that I could "undo" the grow-a-long sleeve seam to make it shorter when I pass it down to the next kid! Parka length is terrific for keeping little tushes warm when they would have to wear snowpants with a shorter jacket - obviously still wear the snowpants in the wet snow, just not on walking trips! I would recommend this parke to ANYBODY - just wish the Squall adult parka had the same features! You certainly can't beat the end-of-season price - way better value than the gazillion$ brands ;) January 18, 2013
Excellent coat I have bought Lands' End coats for our kids for 14 years because the coats are fantastic. L.E. just keeps improving on the details. This boy's coat has built in hand warmers that allow my 12 year old to leave the gloves at home when he goes to school: one less thing to lose at school! The clever pockets, reflective piping... I love L.E. coats for my kids! January 18, 2013
No complaints here... We LOVE it! I bought this for my six year old this year for winter. I started with a size 7 after reading reviews, but it was huge. We returned for the 5/6 and the fit is perfect. He is on the small side for his age, but he's a solid 5/6 Lands' End shirt and the coat fits in line with that. He absolutely loves the built in snow cuffs. We live somewhere that it isn't super cold, so most of the time this is plenty in place of mittens on the way to school and I don't have to worry about him forgetting/losing his mittens. I ended up just keeping the size 7, too. We'll grow in to it. The price was great and the coat is a winner. Definite 5 star purchase! January 8, 2013
Third purchase, great product I have 3 boys currently age 12, 10 & 7. I bought one of these two years ago for my oldest and was so impressed with the quality and durability that when my middle son needed a coat last year I bought him one as well. My youngest was in desperate need for a winter coat this year; I knew exactly what to get him. We recently moved from Western New York where there is snow and lots of wind. This parka is great, the coat is warm and keeps out the wind and rain, but is not bulky. The hood is snug but not so tight that they can't fit the hood of their hoodie under it. The boys absolutely love the cuffs that can be expanded to cover their hands like fingerless gloves so they only need gloves on really cold days. The parka length keeps their fannys warm in the morning while waiting for or riding the bus. No problems with washing them in my washing machine, I do let them air dry rather than use the dryer, just my preference. My oldest has had his coat 2 years now and it is wearing very well; has retained it's colour well even after a few washes. I expect it will last through all three boys. January 3, 2013
Nice Jacket But Not Holding Up As Well As Expected I bought three of these coats for my boys. They wore them all last winter and now this winter. They are nice looking coats and keep the boys warm, even when skiing. However, recently on two out of three coats, the stitching under the arms has started to give out. This is very disappointing- there is no point in having the extra length available in the sleeves if the coat is not going to hold up long enough to make use of it. As other reviewers have mentioned, the sleeves are somewhat tight and I think this may contribute to the seams coming undone as the kids are constantly yanking their arms to get the sleeves off. January 1, 2013
Arms are too tight! This is our 5th Squall Parka and my son who never complained about the others absolutely hates this new version due to the very tight wrists which make it difficult to get on and off unless you are just wearing a short sleeve shirt. Every time he puts it on he says this is the worst jacket ever! Guess we won't be buying another one unless they change it back to the former fit. The Grow--A-Long sleeves are just not made wide enough. Unfortunately, we can't return it since we purchased it last winter when it went on sale. December 29, 2012
Great purchase! Bought 4T for my 4yo in blue. He loves it! Big brother taught him to use the hand warmers. I love the reflective strip at the bottom hem of coat. The hood has some elastic gathers in front and an adjustable strap right on top so the hood can be sized deeper or shallower. Zipper and Velcro. Would prefer easy snaps over Velcro. It takes some time for a four year old to undo the Velcro - and zipper - when he rushes inside to go potty! Still, what a great midweight parka! We are in upstate SC, so not too cold for very long, but I think we'll get two seasons and a hand-me-down out of his one. December 27, 2012
